Winter is coming…
The days are getting cooler, the leaves are changing colour… All just a reminder that in about two months, we’re going to be thrown face first into the bitter Canadian winter. The nights are getting colder and darker and that means more cosy nights spent under a blanket binge watching Netflix *cough* Buffy *cough*! It also means the changing leaves, autumn Starbucks hot drink flavours, and vampy, berry lips! Today, I’ve partnered with Fjallraven Canada to show you some of my autumn and winter essentials!
Fjallraven Greenland Winter Parka
First thing – a warm winter coat. I believe that a high quality, warm winter coat is something to invest in – especially if you live in a cooler climate like Canada! If you don’t layer accordingly, you’ll feel the cold winter air cutting through your jacket, which is not a nice feeling at all.  I’m here to share my secret – I absolutely looooove the Greenland Winter Parka* from Fjallraven! It checks off all the boxes in my winter jacket criteria.
- Must be water resistant (for wet autumn weather, and eventually snow).
- Fit well in the waist and arm length, and must be long enough to hit about mid thigh.
- Must be warm!
- Have a classic design that fits in well with the rest of my wardrobe.
I always prefer jackets with a longer fit, because 1) I’m tall, and 2) I don’t want a cold butt! Fjallraven jackets have a timeless designs, and there are lots of different styles to choose from ranging from lighter fall jackets to thick winter parkas.

How does the Fjallraven Greenland Winter Parka fit?
Buying a coat online can be daunting, especially when you are not able to try on the jacket beforehand. I did a lot of research on fitting, but not many people have written about the sizing of Fjallraven jackets. As you guys know, I’m a tall girl! (5ft11). I normally go for women’s large in jackets to accommodate the longer sleeve length. However, I read in reviews that Fjallraven jackets have a generous fit, and the sizing is a bit larger. This makes the jackets absolutely fantastic for layering, especially in the autumn and winter seasons! I would recommend going down a size from what you normally wear – I opted for the Women’s medium. As for the length, the jacket hits at about mid thigh.
Pockets! There are so many pockets and I looooove it!! This jacket features six! Yes, you heard me, SIX! There are two large buttoned breast pockets, two middle pockets for your hands, and two large buttoned pockets at the bottom. You can fit your purse essentials in the pockets and spare the effort of carrying around a bag all day.
The jacket has warm teddy-pile lining and is also a waterproof G-1000 Silent outer. You can find this jacket here. There is also a shorter version of the Greenland jacket here, and a lighter parka version here! If you’re looking for a warm jacket for autumn/winter, I highly recommend Fjallraven!
Keep your hands warm and toasty…
If you’re a true Canadian *wink wink* you probably already own a pair of these iconic mittens! Cold hands are the absolute worst, and these mittens from The Bay’s Canadian Olympic Collection will make sure your hands stay toasty all winter long with the cosy fleece lining. They’re currently on sale so be sure to pick up a pair here!
Vampy, Berry Lips
One of my favourite autumn makeup trends is vampy, berry toned lips! I tend to sport nude or coral tones of my lips during the majority of the year, but the deeper reds and berry tones signal the start of the holiday season in my mind! I tend to cheat the whole dark lip trend by going with a medium mauve instead – I find that bold darker colours emphasize my small lips. Berry tones go hand in hand with sweater weather – wouldn’t you agree? I have a selection of my favourite lipsticks here that I think are perfect for this time of year!
The Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipsticks are some of my favourite formulas because they have incredible lasting power. My favourite autumn shades are Disorderly, Bawse, and Stepping Out (reviewed here!) I also fell in love with Smashbox Be Legendary lipstick in Primrose, which is a muted, medium rosy mauve with subtle, warm undertones and a cream finish. I think this is a colour most people should own – it’s gorgeous and classic! Kat Von D’s Studded Lipstick in Lovecraft is a firm seasonal favourite – the matte formula is so comfortable on the lips. And of course I have to mention my favourite lip balm – the Malin and Goetz Mojito lip balm! This stuff seriously saves my lips during the cooler autumn and winter months.
Holiday Treats and Festive Drinks
I’m not really a fan of the famed PSL – controversial, I know. I’m addicted to Starbucks, but for different reasons! I’m a huge fan of the Chai Tea Latte, both hot and iced versions! If you haven’t tried it, it’s a creamy latte with a little spice – perfect for warming yourself up on those chilly autumn days! One of my favourite drinks is more of a Christmas release, but when the time comes, ask for a Chestnut Praeline latte! It’s a mix of caramelized praelines, holiday spices, espresso, and rich, steamed milk! As for loose leaf teas, the Tealish Donuts and Dreidels mix tops the list. It’s a flavoured black tea with notes of chocolate and strawberries, and is best enjoyed with a dash of milk and sugar.
I also made a delicious gingerbread man recipe, which you can find here!
