Valentines Day is coming up – what are you up to?
Heading out on a date? Staying home? Celebrating Galentines Day instead? I know Valentines Day gets flack for being ~overcommercialized~, but I must admit that I do love the lovely-dovey spirit! The flowers, the chocolate, the cartoon cupids… Gimme gimme! I’ve put together a list of five Valentines Day Essentials – keep reading to find out what made the cut!
A gorgeous lip product is an absolute must for Valentines Day! I mean, you have to have a pretty pout so you can leave lipstick kisses all over your ~darling~! My go-to for a classic read is the Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick in Bawse* – the perfect deep brick red that’ll see you through date and dinner. I’m the absolute worst at wearing dark lipsticks as I touch my lips a lot (nervous habit) and it’ll migrate across my face unless I have a solid matte formulation.
A peachy coral lip is a staple in my makeup bag, it’s my favourite tone to wear and I always have one on me! My favourite go-to is Bite Beauty’s Amuse Bouche lipstick in Sweet Cream (reviewed here.) It’s super wearable and works well with my skin tone. I also like to mix it with the shade Gingersnap for a brighter orange hue.
As much as I love wearing glosses, I think they’re a bit impractical for Valentines Day… I love giving smooches but hate subjecting Matt to a face covered in sticky gloss LOL! My favourite to wear at the moment is the bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie lip gloss in Trail Blazer, but girl, you do you! It’s a nude shade that looks gorgeous on its own but layers really nicely on top of other lip colours… the shade is great at making base colours look more muted.
A signature fragrance…
Choosing a fragrances is such an important day of my Valentine’s Day routine! It sets the mood, and I find that scents are easily associate with memories. For example, when I first started dating Matt, I remember that his signature cologne was MontBlanc Legend!
I like to have a lighter scent for a day in, or a more sultry scent for a night out. My go-to’s are Chanel, of course! Chanel No5 Eau Premiere was my signature scent, but I’ve started to wear it more as an evening scent. Eau Premiere is described as the “voluptuousness of Ylang-Ylang from the Comoros blends into the harmonious and delicate facets of May Rose and Jasmine. Aldehydes grant it a unique presence, and the smooth touch of Vanilla and musky notes create an incredibly feminine trail.”Â
I picked up Chanel Chance Eau Tendre over the holidays, and have been wearing it daily ever since! Tendre is described as a “green and fruity Grapefruit-Quince accord intertwines with the softness of Jasmine and the smoothness of White Musks for an intoxicatingly light, floral trail.” A perfect feminine day scent.
So yesterday I went out for a little Galentine’s Day celebration with my friends, and we visited Kelly’s Bake Shoppe in Burlington. It’s a gluten-free, egg-free, peanut-free, and vegan bakery with interiors that look like they’re straight out of Pinterest. But basically, you can’t do Valentine’s Day without sweet treats – vegan or not! I picked up the Raspberry Coconut Square, so goooood. The cupcakes are also adorable, so we spent about 2 hours sitting and snacking and taking photos.
Blooms Blooms Blooms!
It’s no secret that I absolutely love flowers. A bouquet of flowers in a pretty vase really does brighten up the entire room. In order to truly feel like Valentines Day is upon us, flowers are a must!
What are your favourite types? I have a thing for roses!
Before a date or big event, I like to spend the night before prepping and treating my skin. I have discovered two new products fromflakiness  Pixi that I absolutely love! After cleansing, I have loved using the Pixi Peel n’ Polish* exfoliating concentrate. It is a very intense exfoliator that buffs away dead skin cells. After that, I follow up with toner, serum, and possibly a sleeping mask. However, I love finishing everything with a few dots of Pixi Rose Oil*. It’s a luxurious face oil that has a lovely and soft rose fragrance. I use it as the last step in my skincare regime at night and it makes my face feel soft and supple in the morning.
Some Romantic Reading
This book landed on my doorstep last week, and I thought it was perfect for Valentines Day! Congrats in advance to everyone receiving proposals on Valentines Day. Although marriage is quite far off for me, I’m super excited to go on an exciting honeymoon! I can’t wait to go on a big trip with my SO. Lonely Planet has put together a handy guide detailing everything you’ll ever need to know about planning a destination wedding or romantic honeymoon getaway. The Honeymoon Handbook* has it all. I love looking through pretty photos – everything looks super pinteresty. There are also sections of the book where you can write notes to help your planning go across more smoothly!
What I really love about this book is that it tells you which countries are LGBT-friendly. Although we may be more open-minded here in North America, there are still countries in the world that have strict regulations on LGBTQ travel. The book also gives pointers on where to fly, which seasons are best to visit, where to eat.
How will you be spending your Valentines Day? ð Matt and I celebrated over the weekend so I’ll probably be watching k-dramas or playing Overwatch… as per usualy haha.
