An Evening Exploring Burlington

Hiya lovelies!

It’s the summer time, and that means…weekend getaways! In my last staycation post, we looked at prime spots around Port Credit (read here). Continuing with my series of staycation spots within the GTA, we’re traveling down to Burlington. Burlington is another lakeside town sandwiched between Oakville and Hamilton. I haven’t visited since I was a kid, so I thought it would be nice to bring my parents down with me for the weekend.

My look that evening. I’ve been loving rly simple makeup (a bit of foundation and some winged liner), as well as gold hoops lately. I got them from Simons. I’ve been on a Glossier kick recently – more on the bits I picked up in the States soon. Watch this space 🙂

Where to Stay: Waterfront Hotel

On Saturday evening, I checked into the Waterfront Hotel*! Shout-out to Shane at the customer service desk who was so friendly while checking me in! 😀 The hotel is newly renovated and boasts the most gorgeous lakeside views. Seriously – it’s the only water front hotel in area, and sits minutes away from the boardwalk.

I was very impressed at our room! It looked incredibly clean and modern. We had a room with two queen beds which were super comfortable! (Honestly my mattress back at home sucks so it was nice to sleep on a comfortable bed for once.) The room was designed in a very thoughtful way, for example, the USB plug outlets next to the bed, and the coffee maker rolled in and out of the main cabinets.

Our view from the fifth floor was gorgeous – directly overlooking the boardwalk! The evening sunset was so beautiful and having such a nice view definitely made our experience so much nicer.

The washroom was large and bright, and included NEST scented bath products! I love it when hotels include branded toiletries, especially since I love NEST fragrances!

I enjoyed my stay at the Waterfront Hotel. The Waterfront Hotel is pet friendly (so you can bring your dog along!) Overall, the service and the location can’t be beat!

Where to Eat: Kelly’s Bake Shoppe

Since we arrived in the evening, we skipped out on dinner and decided to go straight for dessert. Check out Kelly’s Bake Shoppe, located about a 5 minute walk from the hotel! I learned about this place back in the spring when my classmates insisted we visit after class. Kelly’s has made a name in the community as the vegan bakery. Everything they make is gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, peanut-free, and vegan.

TRY: Any of their cupcakes, raspberry coconut square, and the ice cream!

My go to are the raspberry coconut squares- they taste so delicious, you would have never suspected they were vegan! Also, I need to point out the ice cream. It was so creamy and smooth, I would have never believed there was no dairy in it! It’s actually soy based. Dare I say it was even nicer than regular ice cream? You can also add various toppings for $1 extra.

The Burlington lakeshore area is also packed with various restaurants, bars, and eateries. I’m really big on Yelp (add me as a friend!) and always trust the reviews when I’m looking for a place to eat in a new area. According to Yelp, you might want to check out Mythos, Sushi Masayuki, and Spencer’s at the Waterfront!

Where to Visit: Burlington Scenic Boardwalk

If you’re going to be spending an evening at the Burlington Lakeshore, you need to do an after-dinner walk on the boardwalk. The long stretch is gorgeous for photos and scenic views of the summer sunset. The area has been greatly renovated since I last visited as a kid, and there’s a walkout area with an observation deck. Such a gorgeous sight.

Have you ever been to Burlington? Do you have any favourite lakeshore spots around the GTA?

Thanks for reading!

*Thank you to the Waterfront Hotel for providing a room in exchange for an honest review.
