A Giant Korean Skincare Haul

Cosrx Snail Mucin 96 Essence 01

I’M ADDICTED TO SNAILS??

Sounds like a clickbaity beauty guru Youtube videos that you end up clicking on because it sounds gross yet weirdly intriguing at the same time.

Countless bloggers touted snail products as being holy grails in their skincare routine.

Today, I’ll be sharing part 1 of my giant K-Beauty haul – the skincare items!

Many of them being…snail skincare!

I saw an almost instant boost in the appearance of my skin after just a few days of using these products.

Apparently snail mucin is a magical skincare ingredient that has the ability to repair everything from dry patches, to acne breakouts, to hyperpigmentation.

Hell yea I’m all for putting snail slime on my face if that means I have flawless and hydrated skin!

So when I made my giant k-beauty haul, I had to pick up some snail mucin infused skincare! Today, I’ll be reviewing 5 different snail products.

But how many snail products does a girl even need?

Probably not that many, but my mom jumped in on my haul as well so I’ve been testing some of her products as well (hehehehe)

Amika Polished Perfection Straightening Brush

Amika Straightening Brush Review 10

Amika Polished Perfection Straightening Brush Review

Hello everyone!

Last week was Sephora’s semi-annual VIB sale. And I picked up the Amika Polished Perfection Straightening Brush! I had been eyeing it for a while and decided to get it during the sale.

I hate doing my hair. On 6/7 days, my hair is usually up in a ponytail or bun because I can’t be arsed to do anything with it.

I have really thick hair, so it takes forever to blowdry and straighten. I always wash my hair in the evenings, let it airdry overnight, and straighten it the next evening because I’ll take every moment of sleep I can get in the morning.

I had been eyeing the Amika Straightening Brush for a little while now. After watching numerous reviews on YouTube and researching on different blogs, I decided to pick it up. Not only was it 15% off (which is like nothing… damn you 13% tax!) but it came in a value set. Keep reading for my thoughts!

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Summer 2018 Collection Review & Swatches

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Summer 2018

BRING THE HEAT

Summer launches always make me feel really happy because it’s a fun reminder that warm days are soon approaching. I’m ready to trade in our 6-month long winter for that warm weather, baby!

Today I’ve got some new bits from Estee Lauder to share with y’all. I love Estee Lauder’s summer releases! Especially their Bronze Goddess Line.

All I want to be is a Bronze Goddess! I used to be really tan as a kid but as I discovered ~the internet~ I spent all my days indoors and reverted back to my natural pale skin tone (lol)

I long to achieve that bronzey, glowy skin that is plastered all over my Instagram feed. One day I’ll get it. I’m going to try making an effort to tan a bit this summer, or try out some fake tanning products…

Anyway, what do we have here?

The Estee Lauder Summer 2018 Collection!

I’ll be introducing 4 new items to the collection today:

  • Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Illuminating Powder Gelee
  • Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Cooling Body Gelee
  • Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess The Summer Look Palette

First Impressions – Makeup, Skincare and Hair Products!

http://lovelycomplex.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/DSC01006.jpg

NEW BITS & BOBS

Hi friends!!

Over the past little while, a few new bits have landed on my doorstep, as well some new products I’ve picked up! I thought I’d put together a little first impressions now that I’ve been using these products for the past month or so.

October was my month experimenting with the smoky eye! To be honest, I wasn’t really sure how much I was going to like it – I’ve always leaned towards more natural, neutral tones when I do my eye makeup. However, two eyeshadow palettes really worked me into the smoky look…

Effortless French Beauty ft. Guerlain

SIMPLY ICONIC

When I say Iconic French Beauty House, what do you think of? For me, Guerlain springs to mind. I remember seeing the little pot of Guerlain Météorites sitting on top of the washroom counter when I was little, that where my mom had placed just out of my reach. When she wasn’t around, I’d climb up on the counter and use the puff she kept inside the tin to pat my face. I learned to love the sweet scent of violets that Guerlain uses to fragrance their products.

So I’m sure you understand my excitement when Guerlain invited me to their fall beauty masterclass! Hosted by Guerlain International Beauty Artist, Maxime Poulin, we learned about the autumn trends and new Guerlain launches. I’m partnering with illustrator (and bff) Emily Beaton to feature some of her illustrations.

A Late Summer Sephora Haul

Hello lovelies!

I’m laughing as I write this post because as of right now, it’s early August, and I know this post won’t go up til the end of the early to mid September. Why, you ask? Because the end of August is my birthday, and I always hold off ordering from Sephora in July because I want the Sephora birthday gift.

That means I spend the whole of July restlessly surfing the Sephora site and app and adding things to my basket. Come August 1st, I slam dat checkout button! It also helped that eBates was at 8% cash back. eBates as a affiliate program where you can get cash back on your purchases from different retailers – I always use it when shopping from Sephora because you get money back!

Check it out here.

So here is a haul in two parts – enjoy.

New Hair Favourites & My Current Haircare Routine

Hello lovelies!

As you may have seen me complaining on Twitter and Instagram… I have a lot of hair. I mean, a lot. My hair dresser once told me I had the hair of 5 people (to which I morbidly joked “Yes, I absorbed 4 of my siblings in the womb.”) The point is, I go through hair care products like it’s my job, especially shampoo and conditioner.

Today, let’s take a look through some of my tried and tested favourite hair care products!

Glossier in Canada | Glossier Haul, Review, and Recommendations!

Hello lovelies!

I finally got my hands on some Glossier bits! I’ve heard some of my favourite beauty bloggers rant and rave about the magic of Glossier for ages. It’s simple, it makes your skin look amazing, the packaging cute…. etc etc etc. The idea of a basic, no-frills products stood out to me, and I wanted to try it out for myself.

As if I needed any more makeup… however, I reasoned with myself because Glossier prides their products on the notion of “skincare first, makeup second,” which really aligns with my approach to beauty products!

Have you tried Laneige products before? I’m a huge fan of this Korean skincare brand – I’ve done features on their trial kits and masks in the past which I absolutely loved. Sephora VIB haul

Hello lovelies!

Jumping back into the swing of blogging after a hectic few weeks. I might do a personal update post later… still trying to decide because I’m so exhausted from trying to correct my sleep schedule. The 9-5 really wrecks the college student body, lemme tell ya.

Anyway, today’s post is a long one.  What did you pick up during the Sephora VIB sale? Can you believe that I held out on ordering between February to April (self control, amirite?) 15% isn’t even much either (basically the cost of tax,) but Sephora hardly has any sales so in the end, it was worth it.

Pixi By Petra Beauty Launch

Hello lovelies! I have a very exciting event recap for you today. Pixi was a brand that flitted through the Canadian market in the blink of an eye on the wings of now-gone Target stores. However, I come bearing good news for us Canadian gals – Pixi is back and here to stay at Shoppers Drug Mart! A few weeks ago Emily and I were fortunate enough to attend the Toronto launch of Pixi by Petra. Keep reading for a rundown of Pixi goodness (spoiler alert: I love everything!)

Emily and I took a train downtown and Ubered our way to the launch, through the craziest sleet/freezing rain/ wind storm we’ve had this season! However when we got inside, we were greeted with a table filled with Pixi goodness! Everything from skincare, facial mists, lipsticks, contour palettes, and base products.

The Canadian range is missing a few influencer collaborations (such as the coveted Pixi x Caroline Hirons Double Cleanse,) but I hope they will make their way over soon!

We were led to the table and tried out the products while Pixi global spokesperson Amanda Bell showed us her favourites. I have a few items to show you today!

Pixi SkinTreats and Skincare Line

You guys know I absolutely love skincare! It’s probably my favourite element of my beauty routine. After all, a clean base leads to smoother makeup application!

I was so excited to try out their skincare range because I often hear British youtubers like Anna and Lily raving about certain products.

The Pixi Peel & Polish is an intense exfoliator – “resurfacing concentrate” with natural fruit enzymes. The lactic acid gently exfoliates, cellulose peels & sugar extracts polishes, lifting away dullness revealing brighter skin. The exfoliating particles are fine but intense, and you can really feel it scrubbing all the dead skin cells away! It doesn’t feel abrasive and does a great job. I use this every 3 days.

I love sleep masks – the Laneige Sleeping Mask was my holy grail. I recently just ran out, to which ~ praise the skincare gods~ the Pixi Nourishing Sleeping Mask came into my life. It has a slightly creamier texture than the Laneige mask, and comes in a handy squeeze tube.

The formula is rich in fruit & flower oils to soothe, arginine to strengthen, and hyaluronic acid to plump! It has a lovely floral scent that I can’t get enough of.

I’ve never really used eye treatments before, but I was intrigued when I saw the Pixi 24K Eye Elixir. It contains collagens and peptides to decrease the look of fine lines under the eyes. I store it in the fridge and I love the cooling sensation on the skin!

[pipdig_banner image=”http://lovelycomplex.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Pixi-by-petra-skincare-03.jpg”]

The Cult Product

The Pixi Glow Tonic is a cult skincare product that I’ve heard bloggers raving about for ages. It’s a soothing toner that contains 5% glycolic acid, which exfoliates, brightens and smoothes skin. It has the most gorgeous scent – a cross betweet floral, ginseng, and aloe vera! I apply a small amount to a cotton pad and swipe it all over my face. It feels so soothing, and I love applying it immediately after cleansing.

Did somebody say…facial mist?

I LOVE FACIAL MISTS. You could say I’m an addict now. They feel so refreshing and soothing on the skin, and I’ve made it my mission to try as many as possible. The Pixi Vitamin Wakeup Mist has a gorgeous floral scent! The orange blossom water base is blended with skin-loving citrus fruit extracts, lavendar, and arginine. The spray isn’t quite as fine as I’m used to, but does the job nonetheless!

The Holy Book of Contour

The Pixi Book of Beauty Contour Creator caught my eye with its 6 gorgeous shades! My favourites are the highlighting shades, the sparkly light pink blush, and the lightest contour shade.

The blush is such a beautiful shade, and the middle highlighting hue is perfect for setting my concealer. I haven’t really touched the middle or darker contouring shades, but I’ll likely be using them as eyeshadows.

Overall, this is a very handy travel kit!

Time To Prime

Finally, the last two makeup items: Pixi Flawless and Poreless Primer. It lasts forever, you only need to use a dab of it on each side of your face and it leaves it looking flawless with a glow. The primer offers a light wash of colour with a slight peachy pink undertone, but you can definitely sheer it out and layer your foundation over top. It evens out the complexion and allows me to apply less foundation, as well as prolonging my  makeup to last all day!

This pencil was the perfect consistency.

I never really use eyeliner pencils anymore – you guys know I’m all about those liquid liners! I was happily surprised when I swatched the Pixi Silky Eye Pen though, because it was so smooth and glided effortlessly across the skin. It was soft, but not too soft if you catch my drift. I find that sometimes some pencils break easily at the tip, but this pencil was the perfect consistency.

What do you guys think?

I’m absolutely in love with Pixi and I’m so glad it’s available once again for us Canadian gals – you can find the brand at your local Shoppers Drug Mart. I really want to try out their mud masks and cleaners, as well as their hydrating milky mist! Ooh, and their rose products, the scent is absolutely divine.

Be sure to snap them up when you see them because the Pixi displays often sell out!

Have you tried this brand before? Do you have a favourite Pixi product? Are there any products you’d like to try out?

*This post features press samples. A big thank you to the Pixi team for inviting me to this event!

GLOW GIRL | My Favourite Products for a Glowy Base

Glowy and Lit From Within

Glowy bases seem to be all the rage these days – a viral trend that seems to be taking over our blogs, our instagram feeds, and of course, our makeup kits! I’ll admit, I’m not that into the glow. I have quite dry skin and I feel like sometimes a sheen can emphasize that. In the summer, I’m pretty sure I sweat enough that I could pass off the perspiration as “that new hourglass setting powder!”

I’m not super super into matte – I guess I lean more towards…satin finishes? Is that the term? Dewy, I suppose. Here are my top picks for the days I do feel like being lit from within.

Ride the #NoShaveWave with Silk’n Flash&Go | Demo & Review!

silkn-flash-and-go-express-hair-removal-review-13

Legs For Days, Darling. Introducing the Silk’n Flash&Go!

My legs are one of my favourite features – I’m quite tall and have very long legs, and I love showing them off! Especially during the summer time – shorts, skirts, dresses… love love love! What’s on the menu? Legs What I hate though, is shaving. I’m not the biggest fan of body hair, and I’ve tried most types of hair removal. Waxes, razors, shaving creams… you name it, I’ve probably tried it. The trouble with these types of hair removal is that you’ll be smooth for a few weeks, but the hair will eventually grow back. Worst of all is that it gets super messy! I’ve been curious about laser hair removal for a while now – the convenience of being smooth without painful cuts or ingrown hair bumps? Sign me up! But it can be quite expensive – I’ve seen laser treatments priced from $1000 and up, depending on the amount of hair and where on the body you’d like to zap! When Silk’n reached out to me about their new Flash&Go Express Compact Hair Removal Device, I was immediately intrigued! I have always wanted to try out light-based hair removal (which I will explain a bit more later on!) I tested out the device for two weeks (two treatments), and today I’ll be showing you a mini demo and review

Last week, I was lucky enough to attend the Chanel #TakeYourChance event held at the Hudson’s Bay in Yorkdale Mall in celebration of the Chanel Chance fragrance. The line includes 4 different scents : Chance Original, Chance Eau Fraiche, Chance Eau Tendre and Chance Eau Vive. Each bottle was a different colour – yellow, green, pink, and beige.

It’s your chance . . . TAKE IT! A decidedly young scent for those who dare to dream. A light, subtly sensual fragrance, filled with vitality and energy, evolves from one moment to the next, each wholly unique.

I’ve also been switching up my fragrances (think light, floral, and airy – hello chloe!) I thought I would showcase these items because they totally capture spring/summer makeup trends!

Let’s take a look at the spring/summer releases for Estee Lauder’s Bronze Goddess collection, as well as a new Aerin fragrance!

GenBeauty Toronto 2016 | Event Recap + Creator Party

Generation Beauty Toronto 2016

Generation Beauty (or rather, GenBeauty), was held on May 14-15 at the Toronto Metro Convention Centre. You may recognize the venue, as it is the same hall that Fan Expo Canada is held!

GenBeauty was founded by Youtube Star and ipsy creator Michelle Phan. It’s not so much a convention (like I originally though – more on that later), but a gathering of brands, beauty content creators, and their audiences. This was their first time holding a GenBeauty event in Toronto, let alone Canada. There have been other events held in New York and Los Angeles, and it was nice to see the online beauty community expand into Canada.

What’s In My Makeup Bag; April

You know the saying…

April showers…windy days, frost, and spontaneous snow bring May flowers! The weather last month was absolutely horrible – every so often the sun came out and flirted with us before disappearing behind a screen of clouds and snow. April has come and gone, and it’s time for me to share my monthly makeup essentials. I almost forgot about this post (as I usually post it at the beginning of the following month), but better late than never, right?

If my April makeup had a theme, it would likely be “Dependable Basics”. Read on to find out more…

#BrowsOnFleek | Fave Brow Products

Ooh gurl, your brows are on fleeeeeek!

Or at least, I’d like to hope! My brow journey has been a rough one. My early teen years saw them plucked to a curved thin line – Myspace scene kid aesthetic anyone? (Those photos will never see the light of day.) I manged to grow them out a bit but the stress of university introduced a little trich tick, where I pulled out almost half of my eyebrow hairs in order to cope. Finally, I feel like I’m at a place where I’m relatively happy with my brows, both in thickness and in shape.  I’ve tried out a plethora of brow products these past few years and I’m here to share my secrets.

She’s a Natural | Neutral Polishes For Spring

Neutral Naturals

…Say that five times fast! I’ve seriously been loving light and bright shades for spring – a stark difference from the berry and oxblood shades that have been gracing my nails these past winter months. Neutral shades are clean and demure, which fits quite well with the young blossoms of spring! It’s finally getting warmer too – yesterday was a shocking 25C, considering it was snowing about a week ago!

There are some lovely soft neutrals on the markets lately – Essie is a real winner in my book! (With an honourable mention to Sephora’s Formula X, but we’ll get into that in a second. Here are my top four faves for neutral nails this spring!

Starting with the lightest shade…

Formula X Nail Polish in Invincible (mini size)

This was actually part of the Sephora Meet Your Match 2015 value kit (read my full review here). It say in my nail polish box for a few months until I recently decided to pull it out. Invincible is a beige-toned creme nude, which works better on my skin tone than something cooler toned. It’s light without looking too light – essentially, it works well on pale skin.

Essie – Vanity Fairest

I’m pretty sure this is my third bottle of the stuff! Vanity Fairest is a sheer pastel pink polish with subtle iridescence which builds up to a fairly opaque coverage at about 3 – 4 coats. It’s one of my favourite natural shades, and the subtle shimmer gives it a bit of dimension. I feel pretty girly whenever I wear it, and it works well with all of my clothes.

Essie – Topless and Barefoot

Topless and Barefoot is described as a barely there soft beige pink nail color. It almost looks like the Formula X shade with an ever-so-slight tinge of lilac and pink! Perfect for an effortlessly beautiful, beachy look!

Essie – Lady Like

A touch deeper than Topless and Barefood, Lady Like is an elegant soft mauve nail lacquer. I was absolutely obsessed with this colour and wore it for about a month straight until I wanted something a smidge lighter. The colour is beautiful and dainty, eyecatching but not too bright.

I absolutely love the Formula X and Essie polish formulations. I typically set a base coat of Sally Hansen Triple Strong Gel Hardener and Base, and top the polish with the Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat.

As much as I love neutrals, I can’t wait to crack into the bright shades for summer! Here are some of my favourite summer shades in case you’re wondering! 🙂

What are some of your favourite neutral polishes? Have you tried these picks from Essie or Formula X?

P.S. – I’ve switched up my blog layout! What do you think?

The Estee Edit Launch Party

#BeautyAttitudes

About two weeks ago, Sperrens and I were invited to the Toronto launch of The Estee Edit! As you may have heard, The Estee Edit is part of the Estee Lauder line, but with a fresher and more trendy approach! We walked down to The Distillery District (which I had surprisingly never been to – it’s so rustic and cute!) The launch was actually held at a venue called Airship 37. The room we were in was chic and modern looking, decorated with white couches and blue lighting, totally on par with the brand’s look!

There were makeup stations set up in the middle of the room to play with the products…

Sephora VIB Sale 2016; What I Picked Up!

It’s that tiiiiiime again…

…Sephora spring sale! As per the usual spring event, VIBs had 15% off their purchases. Unfortunately for us Canadians, this pretty much just covers tax (13% in Ontario). Woo, no tax and 2% off! What’s a steal! I’ll take any type of discount I can get though – I used this opportunity to stock up on some items that are going to run out between now and the next sale.

I used ebates for the current 4% cash back – seriously, if you’re not already doing this, get started! You use the site’s affiliate links and get cash back through online purchases! It’s great – check it out here! 😀

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Gingersnap

I literally just did a post about my first Bite Beauty purchase – Amuse Bouche lipstick in Sweet Cream (which you can read about here). I’m completely addicted to the formula – it’s so creamy and longlasting, and fades to a matte finish. It’s a brighter peach colour compared to Sweet Cream, which is a bit deeper and red-toned.

I had $15 left on my gift card so I figured I may as well get Gingersnap since it’s the perfect summer peach! So I only really had to pay $14 for another Amuse Bouche! Awww yeeeeea.

Swipe on bold, creamy lip color with Bite Beauty’s Amuse Bouche. Created and crafted by hand, Bite’s small batch, low-heat process preserves a balanced blend of lip-quenching nutrients, vitamins, and omega oils that are essential for achieving healthy-looking lips. Made with 12 edible oils and triple milled pigments, this lipstick provides saturated lip color with weightless coverage and a citrus flavor made from fresh pressed fruit.

Urban Decay Chill Makeup Setting Spray

I’ve been using the UD Makeup Setting Sprays for years now! I’ve only used Deslick and I’m running low on my current bottle of All Nighter. I decided to try out Chill, which seems like it’ll work well for the summer! One bottle will last me for a very long time, so I only ever buy it on sale. I find that all of the UD setting sprays are quite similar, but this one has a cooling effect on the skin, very refreshing.

To stop makeup meltdown, just Chill. Perfect for drier or combination skin, Chill mists on to keep makeup from smudging or settling into fine lines. Temperature Control Technology actually chills the surface of your makeup to keep it looking gorgeously just-applied for up to 12 hours.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream

My holy grail face cream. The Ultra Repair Cream is amazing. It repairs and hydrates my dry skin super quickly, and works especially well during the winter months. I would have bought the larger tube but it was sold out, and I hate the tub designs. If you suffer from dry/chapped skin, this is a life saver!

Chloe Love Story Eat De Parfum Rollerball

Chloe scents are so lovely and romantic. My previous rollerball – the Chloe original scent- is almost finished, and I absolutely needed to pick up another one! Love Story seems a bit stronger than the original, and a bit sweeter. The rollerball format is more convenient as I keep one as a permanent resident in my purse, great for touchups and on the go.

Floral, fresh, and sexy, Love Story is the new unforgettable essence of seduction from Chloé. Orange flower oil opens the fragrance with a radiant, luminous, and intoxicating characteristic like the flush of new love. The seductive and joyful scent of stephanotis jasmine, often used in wedding bouquets, gives the fragrance its heart. Finally the scent is grounded by the sensual diffusion, strength, and freshness of cedarwood, creating a unified and complex base that endures.

I also decided to redeem some of my VIB points for a mini Lancome Bi-Facil Double Action Eye & Makeup Remover (great for travel), and the Minnie Mouse tote bag for the Sephora collaboration! I don’t really wear tote bags too often but the design is super cute and I figured it would be good to use as a grocery bag or something!

Aaaand finally, here are the three samples I picked up! I’m particularly interested in the Darphin oil as I love to try out new skincare and serums, especially floral scented ones!

I bought less than I originally planned – the Anastasia contour kit sat in my cart for a while until I finally convinced myself that I wasn’t going to get full value from it. (I was thinking more for cosplay purposes, but I’m still not sure. Still trying to decide, but if I do get it, it’ll likely be when ebates is at 8% cash back!) I also thought about getting the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation for something a bit higher coverage, but I’ll probably get that from The Bay when they have a free gift with purchase offer!

Did you pick up any goodies during the Sephora spring sale?
