First of all – apologies for the silence this week! I caught the flu and was promptly out of service for a few days. I’m still recovering (the lingering coughs are the worst!!) but posting will go back on schedule! ğ
Ever since the Amuse Bouche formula lauched as part of Bite’s mega overhaul and reformulation of the Luminous Creme line, I’ve been lusting. Lusting haaaard. So many wonderful colours, such difficult decisions! I had $40 left on a gift card and decided the pick it up during the VIB sale – the 15% off ended up coming to about $28. Still a lot for a lipstick, but spoiler alert I’m in love!
I’ve picked up a few products which I’ve really been loving lately – a little mix of skincare and makeup! The drug store has really been killin’ it lately! It makes me happy that more budget friendly brands are stepping up their skincare and makeup game, making ~beauty more accessible for all~.
It’s a very skincare focused haul this time.. let’s jump right in!
Dove Dry Deodorant Spray (Original)
Aerosol deodorants and only recently becoming a thing here in Canada. When I lived in the UK, I noticed that deodorants were primarily sprays, and I liked them a lot better than the stick types; my favourite was the Dove Pomegranate spray! However when I tried it out, it seemed to smell different than I last remembered. The original scent is soft (kind of like baby powder), dries quickly, and claims to have 48hr protection.
Nivea Men After Shave Balm
This was another youtube impulse purchase. I’ve been loving NikkiTutorials recently, and she often uses this after shave balm as a primer! I never really use primers (sometimes they feel to siliconey for me), but it was on sale for $6 at Loblaws so I figured why not? It’s a liquidy lotion texture when first applied, but dries quickly and leaves a slightly tacky surface that works well as a makeup base! It does leave behind a ~manly~ scent that definitely lingers for a bit (maybe an hour or so?). It’s not too strong but I’m quite sensitive to scents and I kept picking it up after I had finished my makeup. A great budget primer!
Caolion Pore Tightening Memory Sleeping Pact
I’m going to be real here – the appearance and texture looks like mucus. It’s a weird jelly consistency that’s hard to describe, and it has a slightly herbal scent. But it feels so good on the skin! It’s an ultra moisturizing sleeping mask that makes your face feel all cool and tingly. Read my full review here!
Bare Minerals Original Powder Foundation in Fairly Light.
This was given to me by a friend who originally bought it for herself but didn’t like how it looked on her. Luckily… I love it! I like powder foundations, and I’m almost finished my little pot of the Tarte Amazonian Clay Airbrush Powder Foundation (which I own in Ivory, but it’s a shade too light for me right now.) This Bare Minerals formula is medium coverage and feels invisible on the skin. I’ve never tried any Bare Minerals before but I think I can say that I’m in love! This is the original formula, which gives your skin a satiny finish (not completely matte.)
Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara
An oldie but a goodie. I tossed a bunch of mascaras last week so I decided to go back to one of my favourites as a teen! The wand is long and stiff, and works fabulously to lengthen and volumize my lashes. The waterproof formula holds a curl, and any mascara that manages to keep my straight-ass iron filings for lashes in place is a winner in my book.
Have you tried out any of these products? The Nivea After Shave Balm is a real steal of a deal if you can get past the man-deodorant scent! Raid your boyfriend’s washroom cabinets because you might already have this lying around! ğ Luckily, I absolutely love colognes and after-shave smells so I can’t get enough of this, especially for $6!
March was not a particularly adventurous makeup month. The month came in like a lion, and it looks like it’ll be going out like one as well! The weather was crazy, along with my skin. March was all about soft neutral colours and a light base, along with a focus on skincare. Here are some items that really stood out to me!
Laneige Multiberry Yogurt Repairing Mask
Laneige really saved my skin this month! This mask smells like strawberry pocky (aka absolutely mouthwatering delicious! I have no idea how they nailed this scent so well!) It’s a thin, creamy, lotiony mask that I like to put one during a soak in the bath. Read my full review here!
Laneige Water Sleeping Mask
Whaaaat? Another Laneige mask? Of course, I had to fit in another product from my favourite skincare brand! This light gel mask is the perfect sleeping mask. It absorbs quickly, smells fantastic, and most importantly calms and hydrates the skin. This was also featured in my post about Laneige 2016 releases, and is also one of the brand’s most popular items!
Tarte Rainforest Of The Sea Eyeshadow Palette
I blame Desi Perkins for this one – her snapchats whilst on vacation with Tarte in Hawaii seriously captured my heart! She swatched these and the shades looked gorgeous – I snapped them up when they were on VIB preorder! This is the perfect combination of spring and summer inspired shimmery neutral shades. *happy tear* I swatched and reviewed it here! It’s a bit more warm toned than my Naked 2 palette, which I think works better for me in the summer months.
Tarte Rainforest Of The Sea Water Foundation
As of right now, I’ve been mixing this foundation with a drop of my Armani Luminous Silk foundation… It’s a shade too dark for me (*pale neck problems*) but it’ll work really well in the summer time when I’ve tanned a bit! The formula is really nice and light, but the dropper packaging has proven to be quite messy…
Estee Lauder Pore Vanishing Stick
This stick has lived in my makeup bag ever since it arrived at my doorstep last month! Bye bye pores, seeya never. Read my review here!
Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer in 150 Neutralizer
My foolproof neutral concealer. Some days I’ll use this and nothing else! It’s light and concealing without looking cakey, and it lasts all day!
Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadow in Bad To The Bronze
Still a fail proof base! It has worked very well with the Tarte Rainforest Of The Sea Eyeshadow palette!
Sephora Rouge Infusion Lip Stain in Tangerine Ink
These lip stains were on the sale section of the Sephora website, so I had to snap up a few more colours (although most were sold out.) I’m pretty sure Sephora has repackaged them in clear tubes, which looks much cheaper and not as luxe as the black tube. Tangerine Ink is a lovely neutral orange-toned shade!
MAC Archie’s Girls Blush in Cream Soda
The almighty holy grail blush that I love love loveeeee!! I could ramble on for ages, but instead, you can just read my blog review here. The absolute perfect neutral coral powder blush.
What products have you been loving this month? I’m pretty sure that Sephora has their VIB sale in April so I’ll have lots of new goodies to feature! Things on my ~list~ include the beauty blender and a new full coverage foundation for con season… I’m thinking Make Up Forever or Kat Von D!
The March Glossybox had a pretty good selection – I loved 3/5 products that were included! Great brands too – Too Faced, Luxie Brushes, and Eyeko! I love it when boxes include a nice variety of items and sizes, ranging from full size to travel size!
Let’s take a look inside…
I Love … Coconut & Cream Super Soft Hand Lotion Hmmm, I’m quite conflicted with this one. It’s a full size bottle which is good, and the lotion itself isn’t greasy or oily. The scent is just… so strong! It carries a very sweet and strong creamy coconut fragrance, Probably a little better for the summer months! Luxie Angled Face Brush A super soft angled face brush. I actually got one of these brushes a while ago in an ipsy bag! It has super soft bristles and I never experienced any fallout. It’s my favourite brush for applying blush because it fits perfectly on my cheek!
Vine Vera Resveratrol Merlot Moisture Day Cream (x2 Samples) I have never heard of this brand before. The Glossybox included to deluxe sample pots! I actually gave this to my mom because I’m at a point where I’m happy with my skincare regime, and I know what works for me!
Eyeko That’s Where I Draw The Line Liquid Eyeliner Pen Finally, an Eyeko product! I’ve never tried Eyeko before, since it’s not really a brand that is widely carried in Canada. This is the Alexa Chung (aka my queen) collaboration, featuring an inky black liquid eyeliner pen with a felt nib. Very good for drawing on wings!
Too Faced Melted Liquid Lipstick in Chihuahua Probably the most exciting item in the entire box. I’ve tested some of the shades in Sephora but couldn’t bring myself to drop another $25 on a lipstick. Fortunately, one appeared in my Glossybox! It’s about half the size of a regular tube. The shade ‘Chihuahua’ is described as a dusty mauve. I’m going to be annoying and say it’s very ‘Kylie Jenner’, aka perfect for me.
In 2013, I remember passing by the MAC store in my local mall. At this point I was just getting into makeup, and the MAC store seemed much too intimidating for me. At least in Sephora, I could walk around and swatch till my heart’s content without much fear of a makeup artist asking me if I needed help. The outside of the store was decorated with images promoting their Archie’s Girls collection launch!
I remember seeing the displays and wanting to go inside, but at this point I was still learning makeup basics and $30+ for a blush seemed insane…. (Little did past me know that I’d happily drop that and probably more… Whoops!) I love Archie comics. I’ve been collecting issues ever since I was a preteen – I used to raid garage sales over the summer in search of Archies, Jugheads, and Betty & Veronicas… my hunts were usually quite successful! As a result, I have a box of comics stored away in storage somewhere.
For the past year or so, I’ve been looking on r/makeupexchange for MAC Archie’s Girls releases. The 2013 collection was limited edition, and I had very little hope that I was going to find one. Fortunately, somebody was selling 2 (!!!) slightly swatched MAC blushes in Cream Soda. The exchange rate meant that it cost much more than I would have liked, but in the end, I finally got my dream blush – and my first MAC product!
MAC – Archie’s Girls Blush in Cream Soda (2013 LE)
Cream soda is described as a neutral peach. I ABSOLUTELY LOOOOVE THIS. This is my ideal blush colour! It’s a matte peach that has medium coverage. This colour works so wonderfully with my skin tone. It’s a little bit powdery during application, so a soft hand is the trick! You could go a little overboard with this blush and it wouldn’t even look too noticeable because the colour is so natural looking.
It isn’t really that noticeable. It’s the perfect blush for adding a flush of colour without being too bright. The perfect everyday blush.
Unfortunately, my love affair with this blush seems to be quite starcrossed. Why did this shade have to be limited edition? There seem to be some close dupes on Temptalia, but everything about this blush (down to the packaging – Betty being a cutie), is just so perfect!
If anyone has an extra, I’d be willing to buy it off you just so I have backups ğ
Are there any limited edition collections you wished you hadn’t missed out on?
This is the first time I’ve ever done a feature for a certain makeup look that I’ve done. I really liked how my makeup turned out for my most recent video (an unboxing of Loot Crate Anime Box), and somehow remembered to take actual detail photos after filming the video!
My favourite style of makeup is neutral shimmery tones on the eyes, winged liner, long lashes, and coral cheeks / lips.
I’ve been loving Tarte Products recently, especially their new Rainforest Of The Sea Collection! It’s just so beautiful. Tarte has quickly risen to the top of my list of favourite makeup brands.

MAC Archie’s Girls blush in Cream Soda (review coming soon!)
Tarte Park Princess Ave bronzer
Sephora Collection Rouge Infusion Oil Lip Stain in Tangerine Stain (but it had kinda rubbed off by the end of the video)
So recently, my eyelids have been really puffy in the morning. Not sure why, maybe the allergy season is starting up a bit early? It’s really annoying because one of my eyelids stretched out a bit and created a weird triple fold, making one eye look noticeably larger than the other due to the larger lid space. I have lots of folds on my eyelids, so I used a bit of my favourite lash glue (a brand called ‘Magic’, I got it on Pinkicon but it seems they don’t carry it any more). It comes with a little brush so application is easier. I paint on the glue where I want my new crease to be and gently push in the skin with my double eyelid stick thing.
You cans see the makeup in action here ğ
I also used my current favourite, holy grail peach blush – MAC Archie’s Girls blush in Cream Soda. Yes, I’ve only had it for a week. Yes, it is holy grail. Look out for a review post heading your way soon!
It goes without saying that I’m a fan of circle lenses – I feel like they’re a significant part of the ~Sachie~ look. I placed an order with Honeycolor during the New Year as a few of my lenses were due to be tossed. There was also a buy-one-get-one promotion, so I got a pair of Super Pinky Blue lenses for free.
I’ve owned almost every colour in the line. Today I’ll be reviewing the Puffy 3-Tone Violet lenses, but you can read my review of the green ones here!
Korean brands are absolutely killing the skincare game! It’s safe to say that my favourite skincare products are all from Korean skin care brands (*cough* Laneige, The Face Shop *cough*) You guys know how much I love my fact masks. I have three Caolion packs to share with you today. Each is housed within a plastic jar, and comes with a small plastic spatula.
Caolion Blackhead O2 Bubble Pore Pack
This is a self-heating wash-off maskâperfect for a weekly spa-like treatment. Even better, itâs appropriate for all skin types, including sensitive skin. The mask is formulated with 100% natural sparkling water and deep-cleansing charcoal powder work to eliminate impurities. Natural oat grains make sure your skin retains its moisture, and gently buff dead skin cells away.
Texture: Mud texture and applies smoothly, although there are little grains.
Scent: A light herbal scent.
Application: I love this mask – it’s so cool!I’ve never tried anything like this. It looks like a standard charcoal mud mask, but it foams up when applied. After a minute or two, the black mud turns into a bubble mask.
Caolion Premium Original Pore Pack
I had a very interesting experience with this one! I didn’t read the label at first and had quite the surprise when I put this mask on in the shower. This is a cooling mask, which means after applying, you’ll feel an intense and refreshing cooling feeling on the face! This purifying formula tightens pores and enhances the complexion. Glacial clay, Alaskan glacial water, and menthol combine for a soothing, cooling, and relaxing experience that will leave you glowing.
Texture: A smooth, slippery, mud-like texture.
Scent: Smells like VapoRub or Tiger Balm… An herby menthol scent that isn’t the nicest but isn’t too intense.
Application: I didn’t realize that this was a cooling pack at first, and was quite alarmed that my face started tingling when I was in a hot shower. I thought I was having an allergic reaction at first! It was a pretty nice feeling though, and it’ll feel great during the sweaty summer months.
Caolion Pore Tightening Memory Sleeping Pack
Now, this one conflicted me. It looks gross, but it works! I’d compare it to Laneige’s Water Sleeping Pack.
Texture: A light yellow/green, fairly sticky gel. I hate to say it, but it looks like snot.
Scent: Another mask that has quite a strong scent of Chinese medicine! Whyyyyyyy, if Laneige can make a mask that smells like pocky then why can’t Caolion? ğ It fades quickly after application
Application: Despite the weird scent, this pack makes a notable difference on the skin. It’s a thick moisturizing mask that feels a bit sticky when you first apply it. When you wash it off in the morning, your skin feels refreshed and hydrated! I have normal – dry skin and it really does give that extra boost of hydration.
Caolion Freshly Chitosan Foam Cleanser
This cleanser quite intense. It dispenses as a cream, but lathers up into a rich and luxurious foam. I wouldn’t recommend this for everyday use because it really does deeply cleanse the skin, leaving the face feeling dry and a little bit stripped afterwards. It is fantastic for removing heavy makeup, and would be ideal for those with oily skin! I would compare it to The Face Shop’s Rice Water Bright cleansing foam!
Overall, I definitely like the bubbling mask the best! I’ve been using it the most of the three packs, and it’s just so different from any other pack that I’ve tried. The heating and foaming effects are really relaxing, especially if you apply it during a bath.
Recently, across my social media channels, I have seen a flood of reviews and recommendations for cruelty free makeup and skincare brands. I definitely support vegan and cruelty free beauty and skincare products – so many products out there contain animal byproducts or have been tested on animals, and it is often swept under the carpet that many people don’t even realize this! Even if a brand says they don’t test on animals, they may be owned by parent company who does.
Today, I’d like to feature a brand called Sibu. Sibu is an ethically conscious, vegan, and cruelty free brand that sources its ingredients through fair trade practices! It’s a great thing to look into if you’d like to transition to a more cruelty free regime. They currently carry a line of products with Sea Buckthorn extracts.
I have never heard of Sea Buckthorn before, but according to their website, it contains many beneficial properties.
For healthy and beautiful hair, skin and nails High in the Tibetan Himalayas (12,000 feet above sea level) grows a tiny but resilient fruit that resists the harsh weather conditions and high altitudes. The sea buckthorn berry fortifies itself against the elements by producing an array of powerful nutrients. With over 190 bioactive compounds, sea buckthorn is an unsurpassed source of Omegas 3, 6, and 9. And itâs a rich source of the elusive essential fatty acid, Omega-7, a fatty acid vital to collagen production and healthy skin, hair and nails.
Sea buckthorn is a natural product with 1300 years of traditional uses with the modern scientific research to back it up. Our superior processing techniques and our premium and exclusive source of sea buckthorn allow us to create a revolutionary group of beauty products.
Sibu Sea Berry Therapy Nourishing Face Cream
I really like this moisturizer! It is enriched with Shea Butter, and Meadowfoam to create a powerful barrier that keeps in moisture, protects against toxins, and rejuvenates damaged skin.
Texture: A light but rich face cream incased in a frosted glass bottle with a pump. Scent: It has a light citrus scent to it… Think standard soft lotion smell with a hint of orange. Application: The cream is dispensed from a plastic pump. It feels light on the skin, yet noticeably hydrating. It does not feel oily upon application, and it absorbs into the skin fairly quickly.
This feels like a very light moisturizer, probably better as a day cream as it works very nicely as a light primer!
Made of 100% pure Sea Buckthorn, this oil claims to transform dull skin and repair blemishes and scars.
Texture: A fairly watery consistency. The oil is also a bright orange color, but this is not too noticeable on the skin. Scent: A light citrus scent. Application: The oil is housed in a brown glass bottle and is dispensed through a dropper! 2-3 drops is more than enough for the entire face. It initially comes out as a bright orange liquid, but quickly absorbs into the skin. It does leave behind a thin oil residue, but that’s to be expected.
Apparently this oil helps soothe redness, so I have high hopes! I had quite a bit of redness on my face and around my nose, so I’ll keep you guys updated on my results. It boasts extra benefits for those with troubled skin, as the oil has powerful anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, and skin repairing properties.
The interesting part about this oil is that it can be used for first aid! Apply to cuts, scrapes, minor burns or any damaged skin area to help accelerate the healing process and prevent scarring.
So at first I thought this was just a big jar of face serum, until I saw the nutritional facts on the back! This is actually an Omega 7 supplement that can be added to food. The directions state to add 2 full squeezes of the dropper into food, drink, or directly into the mouth. Sibuâs Seven Omega 7 Fruit Oil helps regulate cholesterol levels, smooths artery walls and moisturizes skin from the inside out.
It doesn’t really have much of a taste, so you don’t notice it when it has been mixed into food.
Have you tried cruelty-free / vegan skincare or makeup products before? Sibu is a great brand to check out if you’re thinking about trying new vegan products! They also have some more skincare and supplement products on their website.
You guys already know about my obsession with Laneige – I’ve previously raved about them in my reviews for the Multiberry Yogurt Repairing Mask and their Advanced Hydration Kit. I’m so happy that Sephora is carrying more Asian skincare lines – it means lower pricing and easier access! Now I don’t have to wait a month for Korean cosmetics to arrive!
Laneige recently sent me some goodies that will be launching this month at Sephora. Let’s take a look, shall we?
Tarte – The Ultimate Beachy Summer Eye Shadow Palette
Tarte is one of my absolute favourite beauty brands – a perfect mix of cute packaging and quality long lasting products. I’ve raved about the Rainforest After Dark palette and Airbrush Powder foundations in the past – you can read my reviews here and here! I only recently discovered the Rainforest Of The Seacollection – Desi Perkin’s snapchats and vlogs started it all when Tarte took a group of ambassadors of youtubers to Hawaii! (So lucky!)
Also, can you tell I love those little paper sqwiggly things for background textures? ğ
The packaging is gorgeous – inspired by the Rainforest and tropics, this palette is covered in gold, purple, and blue designs! The shadows are laid out in a pinwheel formation.
Rainforest of the Sea vs Rainforest After Dark
I own another pinwheel palette from Tarte, so I figured I would do a comparison! The Rainforest After Dark palette is one of my favourite palettes, and is definitely one of my travel essentials (which you can read about here!) It features six shadows, a highlighter, bronzer, and blush. It is slightly more solid and a big larger than the Sea palette.
The Sea palette is a bit smaller, and contains eight eye shadows. I wish the Sea palette had included at least a little blush or something! The Rainforest of the Sea palette is $41 CAD on Sephora, whereas the After Dark palette is $48 CAD. If you’re looking for value, go for the After Dark. If you want to become a mermaid this summer, go for the Sea!
Review & Swatches
The color selection for the Rainforest of the Sea palette is absolutely beautiful! All the right shades for a perfect glowy spring / summer look. I’m gonna be using the heck out of this! It features six shimmery/satin-finish shades, with two light coloured mattes. 8 x 0.05 oz Eye shadow – clockwise from top
Seashell – shimmery rosy pink Wave – soft oyster grey Abyss – cool tone dark brown Reef – copper Starfish – golden bronze Cove – matte tan Sand – matte ivory Mermaid – antique gold
Everyone has been raving about this palette – it got an A on Temptalia! The eye shadows are soft and workable, and have absolutely beautiful colour payoff. The swatches above are on top of Urban Decay’s Primer Potion as I always wear a primer under eye shadows!
I absolutely love this palette! A little pricy, yes, but it’s essentially a selection of eye shadows that I wear on a daily basis. Admittedly, the packaging did play a big part in my initial obsession. The palettes were available for early access for VIBs so I snapped one up when the dreaded “Only a few left” noticed popped up… Only to find the “out of stock” button there right after I placed my order! I guess I was super lucky… This also happened when I bought the After Dark palette! The Tarte gods must be watching me…
Right now my favourite colours are mermaid and starfish! Subtle shimmery gold lids are my faaaaaveeee.
I would love to try out some more things from this line but I’ll let me wallet take a breather for a little bit. The Tarte Rain Forest of the Sea Water Foundation is next on my list, but I’ll pick that up later in spring/summer so it won’t be completely useless after I start tanning, because I tan quite drastically lol…
What are your thoughts? Are you also completely in love? Any plans to pick up this palette?
The winter seasons always shake up my makeup routine – I have to compensate for the fact that my skin will be super dry and no amount of green concealer will fix my drippy red nose. I opted to skip out on foundation most days unless going out and interacting with the real world – I didn’t really feel like including it since I’ve only been using one foundation since November (Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in 2), so if my posts are sans foundation, it’s likely going to be that. Here are some items that have been living in my makeup bag during the month of February. The makeup bag is from The Face Shop, which was for a sample bag I think!
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream
I cannot talk about this enough – I think it may just be my holy grail moisturizer! Unscented and quick absorbing, this moisturizer works to rehydrate and rejuvinate the skin. This definitely cured the dry patches on my face, and has been a complete saviour during these cold winter months,
The Estee Edit Pore Vanishing Stick*
I’ll admit, I don’t like liquid primers that much – I don’t really feel like they do much for me? If anything, it just feels like I’m caking on more makeup. This stick, however, feels ultra-lightweight and non-greasy on the skin. It quickly conceals the look of pores. Read my review here!
The Estee Edit – Beam Team Hydrate & Glow Illuminator*
I’ve been loving this as a highlight on my (non-existent) cheekbones! It creates a subtle glint on the cheeks, and doesn’t look too glittery or overpowering. Read my review here!
Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer in 150 Neutralizer
My mom originally bought this but it turned out to be too light for her skintone – luckily for me, it seems to be a perfect match! It has been my everyday concealer, super easy to slap on and dash out the door. Does an okay joy of concealing the redness around my nose, so I’m not complaining.
The Estee Edit Flash Photo Transulent Powder Compact*
The blue tint of the powder really threw me off at first because I thought I was going to look ashy – turns out that it’s actually the ideal powder compact that I’ve been looking for! It has a super silky formula and works just as well as my Bombshell Cosmetics loose setting powder to set my undereye area. Read my review here!
Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadow in Bad To The Bronze
I’m super super late on the whole cream eyeshadow trend, and I’m totally in love! $6.99 at Walmart, so there’s no way you can go wrong. For some reason I thought that this was going to swatch as a dark brown, but it’s a light metallic chocolate colour. Very nice for a sheer wash across the lids, especially as a base for another metallic eyeshadow…
The Balm Fit Eyeshadow (sample)
I received this ages ago in an Ipsy bag and decided to reach for it, which led to another month of gold eyelids. (Yeehaaaawwww). This shade is called Fit, and is a sample from The Balm’s Nude Dude eyeshadow palette (which I neeeed, but not really because I have so many similar colours already….)
Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Mad Max Brown
My holy grail eyeliner! I’ve been loving the brown for a softer look. I think I need to pick up another one because it’s running a bit dry…
L’Oreal Brow Plumper
I’m so happy I finally found a brow gel that works for me! I like that the brush is thinner and more controlled, unlike the Maybelline brow gel I tried a while back that had the weird round brush? The fibres in the L’Oreal gel beef up my brows whilst still looking natural.
Burberry Fresh Glow Highlighting Pen in No. 01
For the days where I want a ~fresh sheer glow~ across my eyelids! I almost always use this as an eye product because it’s so easy to use. Very quick and low maintenance, great for those days where you don’t want to put on much eye makeup, and a few swipes on the top of the cheeks makes for a light highlight.
Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Rush
I had a sad moment with this when I was getting ready in the morning, forgot to twist down the lipstick, and stuck the cap on… RIP the pretty bullet shape. It’s a thick and glossy pink mauve lipstick that is super hydrating and sits comfortably on the lips.
What products have you been loving this month? I predict that March is going to include a lot of Tarte….. I just ordered a few bits from the newly released Rainforest of the Sea collection, so you’ll be seeing those on the blog soon!
I have another installment of Estee Edit products to show you! Another package landed in my PO box featuring the Kendall Jenner Edit Eyeshadow Palette, Flash Photo Powder, Pore Vanishing Stick, and my new lip love, the BARest Lip Color!
The Estee Edit (#beautyattitudes) is a new beauty line from Estee Lauder – the whole essence of the brand focuses on being fun, trendy, and fresh! It will be released exclusively at Sephora in March. I used quite a few Estee Edit products for this look!
Primer: The Estee Edit Pore Vanishing Stick
Highlighter: The Estee Edit Beam and Glow
Powder: The Estee Edit Flash Photo Transulent Powder
Eyeshadow: The Estee Edit The Edit Eyeshadow Palette
Lips: The Estee Edit BARest Lip Color in 05 In The Buff
The Estee Edit – Pore Vanishing Stick
I was really intrigued by this product – every pore reducing primer I have ever used has come in a tube. The Pore Vanishing Stick formula is solid, and features a clear solid primer with a beige center, which means that it works with every skin tone! The stick formula allows concise control, to dot the stick all over the areas where you want your pores to ~vanish~. It is targeted towards those with oily-combination skin, however it applied well on my dry skin.
It feels silky to the touch when applied, and does dramatically reduce the size of my pores! I applied it before makeup.
Pore Vanishing Stick blurs the look of pores, creates an even skintone, and minimizes shine and oilâsans mess or fuss. The dual-action, convenient stick contains a tinted inner core to help assure the formula is universal for all skintones, and is surrounded by an outer ring that shuts down shine with oil-absorbing powders. Use it alone for a naturally flawless look, or apply it either under or over your makeup for a velvety smooth finish.Â
Yeeesssss – my powder prayers have been answered! I’ve been using the Bombshell Cosmetics transulent powder, and as much as I love it, it’s just super messy to carry around! It spills everywhere and the stopper broke so powder flies everywhere. The Estee Edit Flash Photo Powder is super finely milled – almost like a pressed version of a fine transulent setting powder!
The powder itself is tinted a light blue –Â an oil-absorbing, translucent, blue-hued powder that brightens your skin. The packaging has a nice, solid shape. but must be applied with a separate brush as there is no brush or sponge compartment. The blue hue has a similar idea to the Flash Lip Gloss (read my review here), in order to make your makeup look photo ready!
Always be ready for the camera with Flash Photo Powder. This translucent, blue powder brightens your skin so youâre always ready for a flash. Brightening blue pigments leave your complexion camera-ready with illumination for the look of flawless skin.
The Estee Edit – The BARest Lip Color – 05 In The Buff
I’m just going to say this up front – I love this lipstick. I’m quite a lipstick junkie and I have many similar neutral pink and nude shades, but this has definitely jumped to the top of my list. The shade, In The Buff, is the perfect warm brown-pink shade. It looks very very similar, quite possibly a dupe, of Charlotte Tilbury’s Stoned Rose KISSING Lipstick (but $13 cheaper and a slight more warm pink!)
It looks a bit intimidating in the bullet, especially if you’re like me and don’t wear dark colours. However, it applies quite a bit more sheer. Colour is buildable and the formula is so creamy and lovely. The BARest Lip Color is a nude lip formula thatâs a lipstick and lip balm hybrid.
It’s a glossy browned rose shade – ultra moisturizing and not sticky at all. Color stays on for hours and fades evenly. It’s a safe bet if you want to jump on that 90s brown lip trend without going too brown.Â
The Barest Lip Color cushions your lips with a luxurious feel and nude color. Muru muru butter helps hydrate and real flower petal waxes from rose, jasmine, and lavender create a silky texture.
The Estee Edit – The Edit Eyeshadow Palette ft. Kendall Jenner
The Edit eye shadow palette is The Estee Edit’s collaborative palette with curator and spokesmodel, Kendall Jenner. Super hip colours with a mix of mattes and glitters, this palette features a selection of hues that the Kardasian star loves to wear (including her favourite colour – purple!). Each one of the pans is split in half, with two complimenting shades.
According to the Sephora website, the two shimmers (gold and silver) on the left side sparkle and glow under black light! That’s pretty cool, especially for a night out at a club, bar, or glow in the dark mini-gold / bowling! Hehehe.
Use these fourteen shades to shape, highlight, and transform your eyes with satin, pearl, and sparkle finishes. Plus, The Edit EyeShadow Palette has two shade transformers with Black Light Technology for a glistening glow-in-the-dark effect. Use the transformer shades on top of any shadow for extra shimmer during the day and a look that turns up the intensity under black light. All shadows in the eye shadow palette are brush and fingertip friendly.Â
I created a look using the second shadow from the left on the top row – the bronzey and copper shades. I patted some of the gold shimmer on top for a pretty wash of colour!
It’s so fresh and cool, and the collection is to dieeee for. I definitely need to get my hands on some more of the BARest Lip Colors – the formula is just so nice and creamy and the colour payoff is fantastic, especially for the nude/brown trend that’s blowing up at the moment!
It seems like almost all of my favourite bloggers and vloggers seem to be on vacation! I’ve been hardcore dreaming about my next trip. I can only really afford to go on one trip a year at the moment – Los Angeles in July for Anime Expo, but that’s more of a networking trip if anything. Matt and I have been talking about doing a few little trips within the province and possibly in the States, which has gotten me all excited for traveling again. Today, I’d love to share some of my carry-on essentials when I go on long trips, whether it be by train, plane, or bus!
For those of you that are not well versed in the world of beauty subscription boxes, you’re missing out! The premise of Glossyboxes are simple – it’s a box subscription service whereby you pay $21/month(free shipping within the US), and receive a selection of five beauty products from various brands. It’s a great budget method of testing different products without committing to paying full price for products. The February Glossybox appeared in my mailbox – let’s take a look inside…….
First of all – the box! I do love good packaging – it makes the overall experience seem much more thoughtful. Beautiful watercolour heart balloons grace the top, whereas the inside sports bright pink tissue paper and paper padding. Glossybox includes a card introducing the items and brands that are included in each box.
Let’s check it out…
The February 2016 Glossybox included 4 skincare products, and one makeup product. I was surprised to see Glamglow in the box – it’s a brand that I have been curious about and have seen around Sephora, but never took the plunge because of the high price point!
Benefit Porefessional – 3ml
I can’t tell you how many times I have received the Benefit Porefessional – trial versions seem to be included in almost every subscription box! (Not that I’m against that – it’s a solid product.) The Glossybox contains a 3ml sample in a little tube. It’s a nude-toned primer that isn’t oily or creasy, and helps reduce the appearance of pores and prolong makeup wear!
Easily the item I was most excited for in the box! I’ve heard so many great things about Glamglow masks. The idea behind this cleanser is quite interesting – it’s a mud to foam cleanser. It comes out of the tube like a mud mask – you apply it as a mask, take the left over mud and add water, lather it up into a foam, and then work it into your face with the rest of the mud! It doesn’t leave your face feeling squeaky clean, but rather soothed and moisturized. It leaves behind a bit of a film, and would be best following an exfoliating cleanser.
Teeez Oasis Gem Lipstick in Heat Wave Ruby
My mother spotted this and snatched it up quite quickly! It’s a satin-finish, warm red colour. It applies smoothly on the lips and has a very nice formulation. I’ve never heard of Teeez Cosmetics before but I’d say it’s a brand to look out for!
Biorepublic Aloe Rescue Revitalizing Fiber Mask
I am no stranger to face masks – I love them! This face mask from BioRepublic has a soft aloe scent and lots of serum, which is absorbed into a cloth mask and applied to the face. It soothes the skin and leaves it feeling super moisturized.
Etre Belle Golden Skin Roll-On
I’ve never really tried an eye-roller before, and it seems as though this is a full sized product! It’s a clear gel that is dispensed by rolling the metal ball over your under eyes, and claims firm the skin around the under-eye area.
My first experience with Glossybox was great – I’ve been loving skincare products at the moment and definitely have a use for all of the products that were included. The only downside at the moment is that the Canadian dollar is absolutely disgusting right now, which makes the Glossybox quite pricey after the exchange rate!
Have you tried Glossybox before? Which one of the items would you like to try out the most? xox,
Today I’ll be showing you some of The Estee Edit‘s new face and lip products! I previously reviewed the Metalishadow Creme + Powder in Scarlet Eclipse, and the EDGiest Kohl Shadowstick in last week’s post, which you can read about here!
Surprisingly enough, I have never really tried out Estee Lauder products. It’s one of my mother’s favourite brands, and our upstairs bathroom is dotted with Estee Products! The packaging always seemed so luxe, and the price point was quite high for my student budget. However, The Estee Edit (#beautyattitudes) is a new beauty line from Estee Lauder – the whole essence of the brand focuses on being fun, trendy, and fresh! I’m loving it so far. I haven’t seen many other reviews or swatches on the internet yet, so I’m very excited to give you an early look into this line. It will be released exclusively at Sephora in March.
The Estee Edit White Mud Exfoliating Scrub + Mask
This is an exfoliating cleanser, scrub, and mask that comes housed in a plastic white squeeze bottle. It has the same sprayed silver design with blue accents as the rest of the packaging. It’s a white cream with mini exfoliating beads. It has a soft, clean, floral scent which reminds me of spa treatments.
Made with White Porcelain Clay and Jojoba beads, for dual -action detoxing and pore-refining. Can be used as a daily wash-off scrub, and twice weekly as a 10 minute purifying facial. Instructions: Gently massage onto clean skin in circles, leave on 5 minutes and rinse.
As a scrub / face wash: Â It comes out of the bottle looking like a clay formula, but becomes more like a cream when water is added. The texture is smooth with very small microbeads – definitely a lot more gentle than other exfoliating scrubs that I’ve used in the past. Leaves skin feeling soft but not dried out.
As a mask: I left this mask on for about ten minutes – I didn’t apply it too thickly and I really scrubbed it in. After ten minutes, the mask was dry, but not tightening or uncomfortable. Again, it left my face feeling really soft after I washed it off. The floral scent lingered and it was super nice!
Beam Team is a hydrating glow cream – my first impression was that it was a super glowy primer or liquid illuminator – I would compare it to Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector. When applied, it reveals a golden glowy finish on the skin. This would be perfect mixed in with foundation during the summer months for that ~bronzey sun kissed glow~!!
The interesting part about this is it’s a two part product – you have the liquid illuminator in the actual tube, and in the cap you’ll find a flip out mirror and cream concentrate. It’s a very similar shade to the actual cream, but a slight bit more bronze. It’s great for highlighting cheekbones, brow bones, and any other areas you want to catch a bit more sun!
Beam Team Hydrate + Glow is a double-duty double-deckerâhydration with two levels of illumination in one product. Itâs a complexion hybrid, meaning it creates an instant change in how your skin looks while simultaneously delivering skin care ingredients. The tube holds an amazing, illuminating moisturizer with hyaluronic acid that gives an instant glow. Plus, the touch-on concentrate under the cap gives you a high-impact shimmer.
As you can see in the swatches, Â it’s very glowy! I haven’t had a chance to mix this into my foundation yet as I’m more of a fan of a matte/satin finish base, but the cream highlighter is lovely to use. It gives the most subtle, natural glow. And it has an absolutely gorgeous vanilla and floral scent! Find it on Sephora – $55 CAD.
The Estee Edit Flash Photo GlossÂ
This is a thick, luxurious gloss with a subtle blue microshimmer – hard to catch on camera but you can kinda see it in the flash photo. In the tube, it’s looks almost white with a blue-purple duochrome tinge. In daylight, it looks like a natural clear gloss. In flash photos and direct lighting, it creates a subtle yet noticeable extra dimension to the lips!
It’s thick and a bit sticky, but does not come off easily! It feels ultra moisturizing on the lips. It is also fragranced with a super yummy vanilla scent.
A high-tech gloss with a cool blue tint to highlight the white of teeth. This innovative gloss features cool blue shade that emphasizes the white in your smile. Infused with an addictive vanilla scent, it creates a photo-ready, high-shine finish that can be worn alone or layered over your favorite lipstick.
I was beyond excited when this lovely package from The Estee Edit by Estee Lauder showed up on my doorstep!
The Estee Edit (#beautyattitudes) is a new beauty line from Estee Lauder – the whole essence of the brand focuses on being fun, trendy, and fresh! I’m loving it so far. I haven’t seen many other reviews or swatches on the internet yet, so I’m very excited to give you an early look into this line. It will be released exclusively at Sephora in March. I remember seeing a big poster at Sephora a few months ago featuring Kendall Jenner and Irene Kim but I didn’t really know what it was about.
Metalishadow Creme + Powder in Scarlet Eclipse / with swatches – $29 CAD
Find it here. This is a cream eyeshadow and loose pigment duo. The packaging is pretty cute! Plastic white casing with a sprayed foil effect. Here’s the shade Scarlet eclipse – the top lid flips up to reveal a deep scarlet red cream eyeshadow, which can be used as a stand alone colour, a base, or a liner. The bottom section can be unscrewed to reveal a glittery antique gold pigment, which works fabulously as an all-over lid colour.
The cream colour is very pigmented, and is quite pigmented – it almost feels like a lip product? It does stain the skin though, so make sure to wear a primer or something underneath. I like using this as a colourful eyeliner because it’s a deep red and can be quite wearable! I’m not one for bright or crazy colours, so this works well for me.
The foil shadow applies quite sheerly by itself – it’s more of a glitter than a microshimmer. It’s an antique gold, copper colour. You can achieve a shiny foil effect by using a primer or glitter adhesive underneath for full impact!
The ultimate cream shadow with metal mix power for knock out eyes! Intense depth and the flashiest foil finish. Wear loose metal powder over highly pigmented cream shadow or alone on face and eyes. Available in 3 Shades: Black Star, Aquanova, and Scarlet Eclipse.
The EDGIest Kohl Shadowstick in Black Viper / with swatches.
I don’t own too many eye shadow sticks – I own the Burberry highlighter which I absolutely love using on my lid, but that’s about it! This was my first time experimenting with a black shadow stick, and here’s my attempt at a lower kohl lined smoky look.
The shadow stick is very easy to use – simply twist up, scribble on the lid, and smudge out!
It should be noted that the shade Violet Taboo cannot be worn on the waterline.
24 hour wear, shadow and liner in one. Wonât budge, transfer, or fade and it can be worn on the waterline.* The EDGIest Kohl Shadow Stick does it all!
Available in 10 shades: Black Viper, Frost Bite, Guilt, Twisted, Jaded, Royal Scandal, Iced, Grounded, Spiced, Violet Taboo*
*THIS SHADE CANNOT BE WORN ON THE WATERLINE. I’m not exactly sure why, but this is stated on the product info sheet!
My take on the eye look…
Estee Edit Metalishadow Scarlet Eclipse cream as liner, and foil glitter all over lid.
Urban Decay Naked 2 palette, Primal and Undone in crease and outer V.
Estee Edit The EDGIest Kohl Shadowstick in Black Viper on waterline.
Benefit They’re Real Mascara
Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper to draw on some bottom lashes.
Aaaand here’s my full face look! I paired this with Sephora’s Rouge Infusion Lip Stain in Ruby Extract, which matched the eye colour quite closely! A fun vampy look!
I absolutely love these two products from The Estee Edit – can’t wait to see what other products will be offered when the line officially releases! Stay tuned next week for a another look at #theesteeedit line – the Beam Team Hydrate and Glow, Flash Photo Gloss, and White Mud Exfoliating Scrub and Mask!
Are you on team brush, team sponge, or team fingers? I’ve switched up my makeup application tools numerous times throughout the years, and have always fallen back on my trusty brushes. (There’s something about dabbing my face a million times with a sponge that just seems so… boring?)
A while ago, I stumbled across a blog post featuring budget ebay buys. (I can’t remember where the actual post is, but if I happen to locate it, I’ll update this post!) It featured an 8-piece brush set. I’ve owned the same set for quite a while, mainly Real Techniques, and was out on the market for a few more brushes!
I figured I would share this with you guys, because I really like the quality of this set, and it’s so affordable! My heart sinks every time I see an individual brush priced at $40+… I could be buying new makeup instead!
This kit was only… $8.33! However, the price has decreased so it’s only about $7.33 CAD, or $5.25 USD!
Honestly, what a steal! The fibres are really soft, densely packed, and work extremely well in blending and applying makeup.
The kit includes…
Flat foundation brush
Flat nose shadow brush
Angled foundation brush
Eye shader brush
Pointed foundation brush
Round foundation brush
Nose shadow/shader brush.
I can’t really think of any downsides, other than the face that shipping took about a month, which is pretty standard of items shipping from Asia to Canada. I wish the gold wasn’t a bright yellow, but I’ve seen similar sets on ebay which are silver and rose gold!
I’ve been using the brush on the far left to apply my Tarte Amazonian Clay Airbrush Powder Foundation (which I reviewed here). It picks up the powder better than the Real Techniques Expert Face brush, and the Buffing Brush. I’ve also been using the pointed face brush (fourth on the left) to apply setting powder under my eyes as the shape grants easy control.
I had no issues with shedding or brush fall out, which was what I was most worried about. I gently wash my brushes with Doctor Bronner’s Rose Liquid Soap and leave them overnight to dry. The bristles keep their shape, and return to a dense yet fluffy texture when dry!
I would definitely recommend these to anyone who wants to try out some affordable, high quality brushes, but doesn’t want to pay a premium for fancy brand names. This would be a great set to try out if you’re new to makeup, or want to add to your brush kit! ğ They’ve been kitty approved, haha!
More like new week new nails, because I’m far too indecisive about my nail designs to keep them for more than 5 days. Point aside, I wanted to share a simple red and gold manicure that I wore during the Lunar New Year celebrations!
For the base coat, I used Sally Hansen Triple Strong Gel Nail Hardener. This product is great at strengthening nails that tend to chip, peel, or bend! Definitely a game-changing product for me, and help increase the longevity of my manicure.
For the dark red base colour, I used China Glaze Merry Berry, topped with a single coat of The Face Shop’s Trendy Nails polish in RD303. I prefer to wear darker reds, but the midtone tomato shade of RD303 helped bring the overall colour up a few shades lighter.
On the accent nail, I used Sally Hansen Miracle Gel polish in Game of Chromes – a yellow tinted chrome colour. I have yet to find the perfect yellow gold polish, but until that day, this will have to do. I would more than appreciate it if you left your suggestions below – the closest I’ve seen in stores has been Essie’s Good as Gold, but it’s still not a true gold in my opinion!
I dotted the floral designs on with Essence’s dotting tool! Super easy to achieve – five dots for flower petals, and an accent dot in the middle!
I topped everything off with Sally Hansen’s Diamond Flash quick dry top coat. This topcoat is such a lifesaver as I’m way too impatient to wait for my nails to dry properly. My little heart ring was part of a set from Forever 21.
Hope you enjoyed the Lunar New Year celebrations if you celebrated them! My parents took my boyfriend and I out for dinner at Summit Garden, which I have previously blogged about here. If you’re ever in Mississauga and in the mood for Chinese cuisine, I highly recommend it! Super tasty dinner as always – peking duck, sweet and sour pork, crab… The works.
Also tried on my old green qi pao (I think thats what it’s called?) As well as my mom’s red and black dress… Which one do you like best? ğ
I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited for Valentine’s Day! I finally have someone to leave kiss marks on this year (heh heh heh). A lipstick post is in order, of course, to show off some of my current favourite lip products.
I have seen countless Valentine’s day makeup tutorials and blog posts featuring a bright red or pink lip. I’ve never been a fan – I feel like bright, bold colours emphasize my small, round lips. This doesn’t mean that I dislike my lip shape, but I would rather focus the attention on my eyes.
Here are five shades that I’ve been loving at the moment! I’ve been swapping these in and out for the past little while and I can’t get enough.
From left to right: Covergirl lipstick in 295 Succulent Cherry Kat Von D Studded Lipstick in Lovecraft Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Amazing Grace Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Rusk Sephora Rouge Infusion Lip Stain in Strawberry Tint
Covergirl Succulent Cherry / Charlotte Tilbury Amazing Grace/ Kat Von D Lovecraft / Urban Decay Rusk
One of my first lip loves during my journey into makeup obsession wasSephora Rouge Infusion Lip Stain.Despite the mediocre reviews on the Sephora website, it remains one of my favourite lip products! It’s an inky lip stain in the shade Strawberry Tint – a muted berry red. The formula applies and dries smoothly, leaving a pretty stain that feels almost invisible on the lips.
On the odd day that I do decide to wear a red lip, I reach for my Covergirl Colorlicious lipstick in 295 Succulent Cherry. It’s a warm tomato, brick red. It applies with a sheer to medium coverage with a glossy finish. The formula is like a mid point between a balm and a lipstick. Most of the time I use it as a stain. A great colour for girls with neutral and warm skin tones!
Sephora / Covergirl / Charlotte Tilbury / Kat Von D / Urban Decay
In previous posts, I mentioned that I had spent weeks tracking down the Kat Von D Studded Lipstickin Lovecraft… such is the struggle when you fall in love with a cult beauty fave! It’s a cool toned mauve in a comfortable matte finish, which was surprising because prior to discovering this beauty, I didn’t think I liked matte or cool toned lipsticks. Lasts for ages on the lips, and doesn’t feel super drying as some mattes do. Also kiss proof!
I blame the British beauty vloggers for this one – Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Amazing Grace. I originally walked in the store for the shade Sexy Sienna, but decided that I owned too many orange shades and needed a berry hue in my life. This CT lipstick has the loveliest and softest matte finish on the lips – it doesn’t feel as dry as the Kat Von D studded lipsticks, but has incredible staying power. A beautiful berry shade that leaves behind a lovely stain.
And finally, my current lipstick love… the Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Rusk. I’ve been searching for the perfect everyday browny pink shade. The formula is creamy and long lasting, and feels oh so lovely on the lips. Plus, the packaging! The metal case feels weighty and luxurious, and the cap actually stays on. (I’m looking at you, KVD!)
I’m pretty sure I’ll be kissing in Rusk this Valentine’s Day, but that’s still yet to be decided! ğ
What are some of your favourite lipstick shades? Have you tried any of the ones above?
Hello lovelies! I would love to share another one of my favourite products from Laneige. This korean brand has definitely swooped in over these past few weeks and completely taken over my current skincare regime!
Laneige Multiberry Yogurt Repairing Mask
This is such a wonderful mask. Laneige has such lovely packaging! I love the shape and colour, and the bottle itself is durable. It comes with a small spatula which is quite thoughtful, although I just use my fingers.
The Multiberry Yogurt Repair Pack is an ultra-nourishing treatment that soothes and supports firmness in skin. It claims to be made with antioxidants and nutrition from yogurt and various berry extracts. It aims to nourish and hydrate skin, as well as producing and supporting natural collagen production.
Texture: The texture feels like a thick moisturizer. When I first tried it, I thought it was a lotion rather than a mask. It almost looks a bit like yogurt! It applies with a thinner consistency than the usual thicker masks I’m used to. It glides smoothly onto the skin and doesn’t feel thick or sticky.
Scent: It smells like Strawberry Pocky! It took me a while to pinpoint the scent but it’s absolutely delicious…
Application: This mask is fabulous for dehydrated or dry skin. I definitely saw an improvement after using the mask a few times – it plumps up the skin. I used a chemical exfoliator (The Face Shop mango seed exfoliator) before applying the mask, and I didn’t feel any burning or stinging as I sometimes do when I apply moisturizers or masks afterwards. It does a great job and hydrating and moisturizing my dry/combination skin. When it rinses off, it doesn’t wash off super squeaky clean – it leaves a film behind, much like a conditioner. It doesn’t feel oily or greasy, so it’s all good.
I really really like this mask. I’m a big fan of masks and creams that are fast drying and non greasy, while achieving immediate effects! My skin feels immediately plumped and hydrated. Plus the scent is to dieeee for! I mean, strawberry pocky yogurt FOR THE FACE!
The mask comes in a deluxe trial size, along with the Water Sleeping Mask. You can read my review on the sleeping mask (as well as other products in their Advance Hydration Trial kit) here!
The good night kit is listed for just $8 CAD! I would highly recommend buying the trial version before committing to the larger size – the little pot has about 10+ uses! Definitely enough time to check it out and see if you like it. Also great for travelling! You also get a Water Sleeping Mask sample, which is another fabulous Laneige product.
Korean cosmetics. Korean skincare. Gimme gimme gimme!
I’ve been using Korean skincare products for years now. I used Skin79’s BB creams religiously during my early days of makeup discovery. I later discovered brands such as Lioele, Etude House, and Missha, and subsequently fell in love with the world of Korean cosmetics. I hardly ventured into Korean skincare products as I had already found a few holy grail products and hesitated at switching up my skincare regime. I had a brief fling with Luview cleansers, and some nice samples from the Missha Super Aqua line.
That all changed after Sephora introduced Laneige into their collection of brands! I first noticed Laneige whilst browsing Korean cosmetic websites, but the price point was much higher than what I would typically spend. It wasn’t until I received a sample of the Laneige Sleeping Pact in a Sephora order that I decided to test out some of the products. My skin had gotten horribly dry and flaky and I was desperately searching for a solution.
Today, I’ll be reviewing the trial hydration kit and the good night kit from Laneige that are currently offered at Sephora. (Spoiler: I loved everything)
Sephora has a fabulous deal at the moment – $15 for four trial size products! A mini cleanser, water sleeping mask, water bank moisture cream, and water bank serum. You can find the advanced hydration trial kit here! There is also thegood night kit for $8, for a trial sleeping mask and multiberry yogurt repairing mask.
Laneige Water Sleeping Pack
This is the product that first drew me to the brand, yet I haven’t purchased the full size yet! I’m getting around to it, I swear (hehe) I’m trying to use up my current moisturizer before moving on to a new one.
The Water Sleeping Pack is the spotlight product on Laneige’s brand page. Its a highly concentrated overnight, revitalizing gel mask that absorbs instantly and works while you sleep to deeply hydrate skin. It claims to deliver intense doses of moisture to stressed, parched skin.
Texture: Thick and gel like. I absolutely love gel moisturizers, so this is a win in my books. It isn’t sticky at all, which is very nice for an overnight mask. It takes a few seconds for the gel to set before sinking into the skin.
Scent: The mask features an aromatic scent with notes of orange flower, rose, and sandalwood that relaxes and helps sleep. It’s an incredibly relaxing smell, and definitely helps me calm down before bed. I like smelling it straight from the tub!
Application: This is such a lovely mask, and I think I might like it more than my holy grail Korres Wild Rose Advanced Sleeping Facial! Although rose is my favourite scent, there’s something about the texture and relaxing fragrance of the Laneige mask that just ties it together for me! It does a fabulous job of giving an instant boost of hydration. Upon waking up, my skin feels more hydrated and awake! After using the mini for about two weeks, the dry patches on my face have cleared up.
Laneige Multi Cleanser
I love love love a good cleanser! The trial size of Laneige’s Multi Cleanser in the advanced hydration kit is actually decently sized – there’s a lot of product! I’d say about a months worth with consistent use. (I’ve been using it for two weeks and I’m not even half way through, despite daily use!) It leaves my face feeling thoroughly cleaned and soothed. It claims to exfoliate while removing makeup, sunscreen, and impurities.
Texture: Thick and creamy. It reminds me a lot of The Face Shop’s rice bright foaming cleanser. This cleanser does a great job of cleaning the skin, as well as removing makeup.
Scent: Not sure how to explain it, but it’s quite close to the scent of the Water Sleeping Pack. Light and unobtrusive, does not linger on the skin afterwards.
Application: A little goes a long way! The cream lathers up into a thick foam on the skin, and feels quite luxurious. I’ll admit it does make my skin very cleansed and squeaky clean, so I would highly recommend following up with a moisturizer or toner or your skin might feel a little dry.
Laneige Water Bank Serum & Moisture Cream
The trial size advance hydration kit includes samples of the serum and moisturizer. Compared to the other items in the kit, these tubes contain significantly less product. Here are my initial thoughts:
The serum is like a light oil-free gel, a bit thinner consistency than the sleeping mask, but has the same soft and comforting fragrance. Not as noticeably hydrating as the mask but works very well when applied before the cream.
The moisture cream is a light oil-free moisturizer, more of a cream consistency. Applies smoothly and absorbs very quickly into the skin. Has a similar scent to the serum and sleeping mask, and skin looks visibly more hydrated after!
You can find the Advance Hydration Kit on Sephora for $15 CAD! What a steal! I love how Laneige offers trial kits, it’s a great way to test the brand before committing to a full size. I wish more brands offered this!
Stay tuned for my review of Laneige’s Multiberry Yogurt Repairing Mask, later this week!
Here we are… a very cold and grey 2016! We were doing so well – I truly believe we were going to get through winter with the 10C+ temperatures unscathed… Although we seem to have avoided the 4-foot snow piles (for now), the weather is still harsh against my sensitive skin.
Lately, I have been facing a series of unfortunate breakouts – I’m sure it’s because of the harsh, icy temperatures, or the relentless dry winds. I wish it was socially acceptable to wear ski masks out in public without looking like I’m about the rob a bank, because I’d be all over that trend. These breakouts are different from my typical hormonal bouts and the teenage acne I was once cursed with. My skin becomes more sensitive during the winter months, resulting in a rigorous exfoliation regime that seems to have resulted in excess facial oil and sebum production.
Fortunately, I was given to opportunity to trial Neutrogena’s Rapid Clear anti-spot gel, as well as their oil-free products and signature pink grapefruit line!
I am very familiar with the pink grapefruit line – many of the products formed the basis of my high school skincare holy grail. Neutrogena’s oil-free pink grapefruit line focus on cleansing, hydrating, and soothing acne-prone skin which is often difficult to achieve in the Winter months, where everything seems to be dried out and dull. Oh how I love winter.
CLEANSER The Neutrogena oil-free acne wash is an alcohol-free cleanser that provides deep cleaning without overdrying the skin. This wash penetrates deep down to clean pores to help prevent blemishes by removing excess oil and surface buildup. It feels refreshing on the skin! I also feel like it helped to clear up my acne as it contains salicylic acid to provide intensive deep cleansing. The formula is also gentle enough for daily use.
MOISTURIZER When suffering from acne, it is important to keep the skin clean and hydrated. Neutrogena’s oil-free formula works well with sensitive skin. Some anti-acne cleansers can make the skin feel dry, and possible cause peeling and flakiness. This makes it difficult to apply makeup may even cause acne to appear worse than it is. It is essential to moisturize the skin- I recommend choosing a non-greasy water-based formula that wonât clog pores and fights acne fast! Remember – moisturizing is necessary to keep skin looking healthy and smooth!
BODY WASH For those suffering from breakouts on the chest, back, or shoulders… look no further! The Neutrogena pink grapefruit body wash is made with 100% natural derived grapefruit extract and vitamin C. The scented body gel is super refreshing, and is gentle enough for everyday use!
SPOT TREATMENT Don’t you hate it when you have one big obnoxious zit sitting in the middle of my face? For about a week, I had a stupid zit lurking underneath my skin – it was red and painful and all-around unpleasant. The Neutrogena Rapid Clear spot gel is a clear gel that is applied directly to the zit and lasts up to eight hours! Spot treatments are an excellent solution for drawing out and healing those annoying lurkers. It can be reapplied continuously as needed, and has a soothing cooling sensation.
You can find most of these Neutrogena items in department stores and pharmacies. You can also find additional information, and purchase the products at Neutrogena.ca!
*This post was sponsored by Neutrogena, but as always it’s 100% my honest opinion!
Finding the perfect foundation has always been a struggle for me. I tan quite easily, so my foundation shades keep changing. Over the past year alone, my skin type has changed from acne-prone, to oily, to combination, and now normal… So, I’m always on the look out for something that will work! I’ve included BB creams in my favourites.
About my current skin tone & texture: My skin is combination (oily t-zone, dry towards the outside of my face.) My skin tone is quite light with peach undertones. I tend to go for more neutral or yellow toned foundations… Pink foundations are too cool for my skin and sometimes give my face a bit of a grey cast…
I don’t typically use foundation, but I sometimes use a teeny bit of Benefit’s Porefessional around my nose and on my cheeks where my pores may look a little bit bigger. This sample size has lasted me forever!
The everyday favourite…
TheGiorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation is my current everyday favourite. This foundation is such a dream. Living up to its name, this foundation gives a glowy, silky semi-matte finish that lasts all day.It feels super lightweight and has buildable coverage, meaning you can easily layer the foundation without it building up and feeling cakey. It has a very thin, fairly watery formula.
The glass bottle has a little weight to it and feels very luxurious. It has a pump as well which disperses the perfect pea-sized amount! It feels lovely on the skin when set with a bit of translucent powder. I am currently wearing the shade 2, which is for fair skin with neutral undertones… It matches my skin-tone perfectly, and the finish is natural enough where I can pop a bit on without any other makeup and it looks like I’m not wearing any!
Of all my foundation picks, this is by far the most expensive. It retails on Sephora for $66, which I think is very pricy for a foundation. Fortunately, I bought it for -20% off during their friends/family event, where one of my fellow CBBers sent me a discount code! This is definitely a gorgeous foundation if you’re looking to invest in a good one – I personally think a good makeup base can make the rest of your makeup look so much better!
The everyday BB cream pick…
I’ve tried a ton of Korean BB creams, and I’ve finally found my favourite! Missha’s Perfect Cover BB Cream is a medium coverage BB cream with a dewy finish. I really like how this feels on the skin, and works really well for me on those days when my skin is feeling a bit drier. During the winter, my skin gets super pale and this gets a little dark, so I can only wear this during spring/summer! I wear no. 21 light beige… I wish there was a slightly lighter version, then it would be perfect! I have found that this BB cream mixes well with other foundations in order to create a perfect colour match.
It’s quite long lasting, but it can cause me to look a bit shiny as the day goes on. Best to set with a translucent powder.
Basically, my skin wasn’t reacting very nicely to foundations or BB creams – it seemed as though any type of cream that was applied to my skin caused me to break out! It wasn’t helping that temperatures were rising and I was starting to sweat more. After watching one of Estee Lalonde’s reviews, I decided to try out mineral makeup. This mineral foundation is a finely milled powder that comes in a pot, covered by thin netting to ensure product doesn’t spill out everywhere. I apply it with the Real Techniques buffing brush.
I wear this in the palest shade, fair honey, meaning I can only wear it in the spring and early summer months before my skin begins to tan. This powder doesn’t look too powdery on the skin; it looks great when it is set with a setting spray! It also looks better on the face as the day progresses and the face’s natural oils are absorbed by the powder.
The cosplayer’s choice…
When I’m cosplaying, I tend to choose a heavier base with full coverage and high pigmentation. The idea behind this is to choose makeup that will photograph well and last the entire day. I love using the Lioele Triple the Solution BB cream during conventions!
It’s a high coverage formula with a creamy texture. This formula has high SPF, which contradicts what I’ve heard many say in regards to photographing with a white-cast. When I’m at a convention, I’m often outside a good portion of the time, and any additional sun production is gladly welcomed.
It has a dewy finish, which I always set with a mattifying powder. This BB has a very creamy formula, therefore my face sometimes looks a bit shiny after a few hours… It also tends to oxidize a shade too dark for me, so I’ll bring it down my neck and set it with a lighter powder to balance everything out. The packaging is great – a tube with a handy pump.
The drugstore pick…
I’ve got to include a drugstore pick on my list! Unfortunately, I’ve really struggled with drugstore foundations. The shades are always way too orange for me! This summer I went to a makeup warehouse sale and picked up this Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation on a whim. I had heard some Youtube beauty gurus mention this in their drugstore picks, and decided to try it out.
This is my summer foundation for when I am at my most tan. It’s medium coverage with a semi-dewy finish, and doesn’t feel cakey. During the summer, I wear the shade 04 Shell, and the colour match is pretty close to how tanned my face gets.
Hold down the fort…
On most days, I’ll set my base with a setting spray! I just finished my Urban Decay Deslick Setting Spray, so I decided to pick up another during the Sephora 20% off VIB sale! A friend recommended the All Nightersetting spray after I told her that my makeup had the tendency to rub off near my nose and chin. I’ll be testing it out a bit more but I think the general consensus around these setting sprays is that they’re pretty darn great.
There ya go – my top 5 foundation picks! I’m absolutely in love with the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk though… I’m thinking about getting a slightly darker shade for the summer when I finish the other foundations…
I don’t know about you, but it’s getting quite chilly here in Toronto. (Canada? Cold? You’ve gotta be kiddin’ me!) I know right – who would’ve thought! The drop in temperatures gives me that extra excuse to cozy up in the evenings and bundle myself up. The stress of Christmas shopping, cold air, and hectic social schedules can really catch up on a girl! All the better to take a bath…right?
Take a bath!
I absolutely love taking baths. I know some prefer showers but I think that taking a nice long soak can help relax muscles and sweat out some toxins. A nice smelling bath with candles, oils, a drink, and some Netflix – what’s not to love? (And yes, I bring my tablet in with me and set it on the side counter and binge watch Friends… Truly living on the edge!)My friends have even jokingly nicknamed me the bath queen – I’d happily sit in a bath all day if the water stayed warm and I didn’t get all pruny. I’ve tried tons of bath products and today I’ll be sharing some of my favourites with you. Hopefully you’ll be able to find some cool products to try out yourself, or gift to another bath lover!
A bath without some special products would just be plain boring – I always like to add bubble bath, bath oils, or bath bombs. Here are some of my favourite products…
Lush Bath Bombs…
Sex Bomb is an absolute fave – it’s purple with a rosy centre, and turns the water a milky purple. It’s a sensual smelling one, and has notes of jasmine, clary sage, ylang ylang, and soya milk. I discovered the Lord of Misrule bath bomb during Lush’s fall releases. Don’t let your eyes fool you – although green in its exterior, it turns the bath a soft wine colour! Lord of Misrule has a spicy herbal blend of patchouli and black pepper oil. (Pictured below.)
If you’re looking for a bath bomb that’ll turn the water into something from an anime, look no further! Big Blue transforms the water into a gorgeous cerulean shade, fragranced with lavender and lemon oil. Be warned, this one is a bit messy… It’ll release a ton of seaweed strips which can be a bit of a pain to clean out. Finally, the Sakura bath bomb calms the soul with a relaxing aura of jasmine and mimosa. It is fairly colourless, and causes the bath water to look cloudy.
I’ve reviewed a few Lush products in the past – you can read those here!
A few coupons and a recent trip to Bath & Body Works caused me to stumble upon these bath oils. Now, I’m no stranger to Bath and Body Works. I’ve been using items from their Aromatherapy line for years now, ever since they first opened up stores in Toronto. I was picking up some bubble bath and had a coupon for a free item with $15 dollar purchase, so I spontaneously grabbed this oil because I liked the scent (lavender vanilla).
This oil doesn’t create bubbles or change the colour of the water like bath bombs do. A thin layer of oil floats atop your bath, coats your skin and fills the room with a gorgeous fragrance. I would recommend this if you don’t want to fuss around with the colours and cleanup of bath bombs. It also doubles as a massage oil, and feels wonderful when rubbed into the skin.
Bath Salts & Sweat Baths…
So you’re a fan of bath bombs eh? Why not try some bath salts? One of my favourite bath products are these salts from the Japanese brand called Bison. They’re sweat bath powders/salts that contain hot pepper, ginger, and epsom salt combined with carbon dioxide to create a sweat-inducing and water-crackling bath experience! The salts also contain a heating and thickening agent that causes the water to become slightly thicker/slimy. It’s a really pleasant feeling and bison makes some of my favourite bath products.
You can read a review of some of my favourite bison salts here! You can find Bison salts at T&T and other Asian beauty stores. Make sure to bring a glass of water into the bathroom with you because it’ll turn into a bit of a sauna… If you’re unable to find Asian sweat baths, brands like Bath & Body Works also make aromatherapy bath salts which you can find here. They won’t make you super sweaty or create loads of steam, but it’ll make the water smell nice!
I had to throw this one in – Lush makes a fabulous soap called Karma. When I first bought it in store, I realized it had a very familiar scent. Then it hit me – it smells very similar to YSL’s Opium Eau De Toilette! Karma has notes of spicy patchouli, refreshing lemongrass, orange oil and pine oil.
Here are a few more of my favourites, even though I don’t have any more left at the moment! The first three are, of course, Lush products… The first is Sexy Peel– a citrusy soap scented with organic orange juice and zesty lime oil. Great if you want a wake me up scent!
Next is Cupid’s Love Soap, which was part of Lush’s Valentines Day collection. Fragranced with fresh figs, sassionfruit, bergamot and rosewood. Plus it’s shaped like a heart! Bohemian is another citrusy soap, and smells very, very lemony. Finally, the classic Bee & Flower soap has always been a staple in my house. My grandpa often used the original, but I love the rose version!
Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles!
Bubble baths are one of the most relaxing things in the world…It’s so nice sitting bath in the tub covered in bubbles! Bath and Body Works makes luxurious bath soaks – my favourite is the Lavender Vanilla scent! (Can you tell I loooove their Aromatherapy line?)
Lush also makes some lovely bubbleroons (a macaron shaped bubble bar!) It kinda looks like a little butt. The rose jam bubbleroon is made up of two parts which can be divided and crumbled under running water. The result is a soft pink bath that smells like roses. I absolutely adore rose scented products, so this one of my all time favourites.
What are some of your favourite bath products? Make sure to let me know in the comments – I’m always looking for new products to try out! Now if you’ll excuse me… Gotta take a bath! ğ xox,
Ah yes, Christmas season has begun! I’m always instantly drawn to the Beauty Boutique section of Shoppers Drug Mart as brands start to release their holiday gift sets! Korres has been great with releases this year, offering a few different sets with trial and full sized items.
I picked up this gift set earlier this week because I’m almost done my Wild Rose Advanced Sleeping Facial – a thick and luxurious night cream which restores and hydrates my skin overnight! I’ve been wanting to try the other items in the Wild Rose range but never went ahead due to the hefty price tag. I saw this kit for $50 in Shoppers and decided to go for it to test out these items! And luckily for me, the kit scanned for $40.99 at the checkout (which I kept quiet about because it must have been a pricing error, but $10 off, yay!)
This kit includes two full sized products – the Wild Rose Brightening 24-Hour Moisturiser and the Exfoliating Cleanser. I love the Wild Rose Scent! For those who are a bit more sensitive to scents, you might want to test it in stores first. My skin is sensitive but the fragrance does not cause breakouts.
The moisturizer comes in a solid glass jar with a thick white plastic lid. I originally wanted to compare the moisturiser to the sleeping facial cream to see if there was that much of a difference in consistency and overall result, and I must say, there is. I would have included pictures of the sleeping facial but I’ve basically run out so I’d just be showing you an empty jar, but the packaging is quite similar except it’s white rather than red.
The Wild Rose Brightening 24-Hour Moisturiser is very lightweight and applies like a light lotion. It is quickly absorbed and has a dewy finish when worked into the skin, My skin feels moisturised and hydrated throughout the day, but the “24-hour” claim is a bit of a stretch. It has a powdery rose scent which lingers for a little bit after application before fading away.
By contrast, the Wild Rose Sleeping Facial is much thicker and has a more gel-like consistency. I only really use it before bed on days where I’ve been wearing a lot of makeup, or before I go out in very cold weather. It offers a huge hydration boost to the skin. I always notice that my skin has a drastic improvement in brightness and elasticity when I wake up in the mornings, which is nice!
If you’re debating on which product to make the splurge on, I’d 100% say the sleeping facial. However, the moisturiser is good too! Especially for the set value.
Next – the exfoliating cleanser! This is a very creamy exfoliating cleanser with microbeads. The formula isn’t packed with them – it is very gentle on the skin and works up to a creamy lather when water is added. I love how this feels on my face! It has the same powdery rose scent as the moisturiser. It exfoliates my skin without drying it out. I’ll probably purchase the full size when I’m finished with this one!
Overall, I really like this set! Definitely pick it up if you’re a fan of Korres products. This would also make a great gift for the friend or family member who likes rose scented products and is looking to invest more in their skincare regime!
Have you tried any Korres products? What are some essentials in your winter skincare regime?
I’ve been on a huge skincare kick these past few weeks. After discovering the Bioderma skin care trial kits, I’ve been addicted to the brand! I’ve used Bioderma in the past (bought two bottles of their micellar cleansing water in France), but have only recently expanded to their collections in Shoppers Drug Mart. Fortunately for me, SDM carry a huge array of Bioderma products!
I’ve always struggled with redness and rosacea on my face. Whilst browsing the aisles in Eaton Centre’s Beauty Boutique, I noticed that Bioderma had released a holiday trial kit for sensitive skin and redness! I had previously wanted to try the anti-redness cream but decided against it because of the price tag. I had the $5 off coupon from the previous trial kits, and a $10 credit from my optimum points! The holiday hit only cost me $18 in the end, which I considered to be a very good deal!
The kit includes a mini Sensibo micellar water (I swear I have like 6 of these now lol), a full size anti-redness moisturizer, a full size anti-puffiness eye cream, and a moisturizing balm cream.
It also includes a $5 coupon for the Atoderm PP Balm… Although, I haven’t really figured out what the balm is for. It doesn’t feel like a thick balm, it’s more like a lotion? I’ll keep testing it out and get back to you later!
The star of the show – the anti-redness care moisturizer! It’s an ultra-gentle moisturizer which is supposed to minimize the look of redness and soothe irritated skin. I didn’t really notice any instant effects, but I’ll continue using it over the next little while. It does make for a very good makeup primer though! It has a gel/cream consistency that isn’t oily and absorbs quickly into the skin.
Next up, the eye contour gel. I really like this moisturizer – I’ve never really used specialty eye creams – I usually just pat extra night time moisturizer under my eyes to supplement. This gel absorbs quickly and feels very soothing on the undereye area!
It also includes a tiny sample of this Bioderma ultra-nourishing balm. I expected it to be more like a lip balm / vaseline type of lotion but its more like a gel consistency.
Have you tried any Bioderma products? I’m excited to see if they do reduce redness on my skin over the upcoming weeks, especially since the air is getting colder and dryer…
My battle against acne has spanned over the past ten years. I’ve tried almost every acne-fighting cleanser, scrub, astringent, pad, or cream in the drug store. Fortunately, I’ve found what works for me, and my acne has been at an all time low! You can find out what’s in my current skincare regime by checking out my skincare tag.
I recently had the opportunity to try out Clean & Clear‘s three step cleansing system! I remember using these products when I was a teen, so it’s a real throwback. The three step system includes a cleanser, a deep cleaning astringent, and a moisturizer. If I remember correctly, It retails about $14 – $15 at most drugstores (like Walmart!)
The products target dull skin and acne, in order to hydrate and even skin tones. There are three simple steps: cleanse, tone, and moisturize…
The Essentials Foaming Facial Cleanser has a gel formulation with Vitamin C and ginseng. It has a light citrus scent which is really nice to use in the mornings. It also contains soft bursting beads that work to gently exfoliate the skin. After cleansing, it did make my face feel quite dry. I have combination skin at the moment, but I imagine this would work well for those that have oily skin types or suffer from excess sebum.
The cleanser is meant to be followed by theEssentials Deep Cleaning Astringent. This toner targets the additional dirt or makeup that is left behind after cleansing. Acne fighting ingredients such as salicylic acid treat and prevent blackheads, pimples, and breakouts.
Again, this product is quite drying. You’re supposed to take a cotton pad and wipe it over areas such as your T-zone, or any other places where you make have excess oil. I would only recommend using it once a day, and make sure to moisturize right after!
And finally, the Dual Action Moisturizer. The oil-free formula helps to moisturize and provide additional acne treatment to the skin. I really like this moisturizer! It absorbs and dries quickly on the skin without feeling sticky or oily. It feels cool and tingly on the skin at first which is great.
Overall, I don’t think this set is for me as oily skin and acne protection aren’t my primary skin concerns at the moment. If you’re suffering from excess oil or frequent bursts of facial acne, I would highly recommend for you to check this out!
Have you tried Clean and Clear products before? What are some of your favourite acne-preventing products?
Bioderma is a brand I discovered, and subsequently fell in love with, whilst I was studying abroad in England. During that time, I was very into the English youtube community (especially the beauty gurus). They would constantly praise the French brand, discussing it’s gentle cleansing and skin-enhancing qualities. I picked up a double pack of their famous micellar cleansing water 2 years ago, and I’m still working my way through my second bottle!
Shoppers Drug Mart recently released these Bioderma trial size kits. For only $6.95, you get about $23 – 33 worth of Bioderma products! This is great if you travel a lot, or if you’re looking to discover the brand for yourself.
It took 3 Shoppers Drug Marts before I found one that had them in stock. If you see them, impulse buy them! It’s great value for Bioderma products. I bought both kits – the original one and the purifying kit. I haven’t tested the purifying products before but I was excited to try it!
Each of the kits include a cleansing water mini, a serum, and a moisturizer. It also includes a $5 coupon for Bioderma purchases over $25!
The purifying kit (green) targets acne prone skin, and focuses on tightening and refining pores. The cleansing micellar water removes makeup and prevents the appearance of blemishes. The serum mattifies skin and controls sebum to reduce oiliness and acne. Finally, the moisturizer targets acne and blackheads, and absorbs quickly into the skin. The products have a soft, light fresh floral scent.
When I first bought these, I expected the sizes to be a little bit bigger haha. I didn’t realize the moisturizer was so puny! It’s only 5ml, which is essentially what, like two uses? Either way it has a very nice formula, and is great when you’re travelling. The small sizes are carry-on approved. I’m going to take this with me when I go travelling this weekend!
Next is the original kit. The micellar water that I currently have has the pink cap. This kit has a higher value than the purifying kit ($33 for $6.95). This kit targets hydration and moisturization of the skin to look more youthful!
As with the other kit, this original kit includes 3 items. The original micellar water removes makeup and soothes skin! It’s great to use right after exfoliating as it doesn’t sting like other toners. The serum is light and absorbs very quickly! It gives a radiant boost to the skin. It dispenses in a cream/gel form. The moisturizer evens out skin, and can be used as a primer for makeup!
You get decently sized mini products of the cleansing water and serum, but again the moisturizer is only 5ml haha!! But for $7, I can’t really complain. This kit also includes a $5 coupon for your next Bioderma purchase of over $25!
I can’t wait to test these out some more! I’m particularly interested in the purifying kit as my skin has been breaking out a bit more. My skin is very sensitive and I have to be careful with the types of products I apply but I’ve had great experiences with Bioderma in the past.
Have you tried Bioderma products before? Do you have any favourites?
Hello lovelies! H&M kindly sent over some goodies from their new beauty line for me to play around with. For those of you who didn’t already know, H&M has opened a new beauty department, located in Toronto’s Eatons Centre. You can read all about it whenI stopped by last week!
Let’s start with the eyes.
Smoky Nudes Eyeshadow Palette
H&M has released a series of eyeshadow palettes. I received the Smoky Nudespalette, composed of 9 neutral shades. These include matte, satin, and shimmer finishes.
From left to right. A is a creamy matte white. B is a satin finish pink toned cream. C is a mattem purple-toned taupe. D is a satin finish dark chocolate brown. E is a peach-champagne glitter. F is a matte cool ton-ed tape. G is basically a satin finish version of F. H is a satin finish, cool toned grey-brown. I is a matte brown-black.
The consistency of these eyeshadows are quite powdering and very finely milled. I primed my wrist with Maybelline’s Baby Skin primer for these swatches and the colour wasn’t quite opaque, but had a pretty good colour payoff. I’m sure the colour would show up truer with a proper eyeshadow base underneath.
Pure Radiance Powder Blusher
Probably one of my favourite items that I received! It’s a powder blush in the shade Apricot. It’s a beautiful peachy shade. When worn, it gives a lovely, naturally sheer wash of colour on the cheeks.
The packaging does not include a puff or mirror, and the case is plastic, which makes it quite prone to scratching. However, the case is a lovely glossy black and the colour inside is beautiful!
True Matte Finishing Powder
This finishing powder is aimed towards shine control, and offers a natural matte, cashmere finish. I received the shade Warm Beige, which was unfortunately too dark for my skin tone. It was, however, the perfect shade for my mom! The powder itself is quite finely milled and feels light on the skin. She struggles from oiliness on her face, and liked how the powder naturally absorbed the shine.
The packaging is glossy and black, just like the blush. This compact comes with a mirror, but does not include a puff or brush.
Next up, the lipstick. Candy Apple is a glossy, warm toned orange-red that would be flattering on almost all skintones! I was a bit apprehensive at first because I don’t typically do bright reds, but the orange tones won me over.
The formula is soft and extremely creamy – it feels as though its melting onto your lips! The result is a bright, high shine orange-red. It also leaves behind a very pretty stain, which looks quite natural when a little bit is dabbed onto the lips!
I absolutely love this shade! It’s a nice dramatic red lip which suits my skin tone very well. I can see myself wearing this quite often in the holiday months, as well as during the summer! It’s a year-round classic red lip.
Finally, the nail polish. This is an iridescent white colour called December Dawn. In different lights, it appears to have a pink and green sheen. It’s more like a glittery top coat and would take many different layers in order to build up opacity, so I layered two coats over two coats of Essie’s Vanity Fairest (a milky pink polish with glitter, topped with Sally Hansen’s Diamond Top Coat.
Which item was your favourite? Have you tried any of the H&M Beauty items? You can read more about the H&M Beauty department in my previous blog post.
In my last post, I mentioned that I had the opportunity to check out Burberry‘s new booth at Sephora in Square One! Burberry has many new items, including lip products, glowing bases, blushes, highlighters…you name it! A truly gorgeous line – you can read my post on the experience here!
I was given a few goodies to try out!
Burberry Fresh Glow Highlighting Luminous Pen in No.01 Nude Radiance Burberry Face Contour in No. 01 Medium Burberry Iconic Nail Polish in No. 299 Poppy Black Burberry Lip Velvet Soft Matte Lip Colour in No. 437 Oxblood
First – the Fresh Contour Pen. Contour creates soft shadows to enhance, define and sculpt the face for a professional result. The creamy, lightweight texture blends seamlessly to a subtle natural shadow. It has a very creamy texture. The package also includes a face chart with simple instructions on how to create the perfect sculpted look.
It looks quite dark (and intimidating, especially for someone with pale skin like me). However, it blends out to quite a sheer finish, so you can layer the product and control how dark you want your contour to be. You can blend the contour stick out even more than in the swatch above!
Next, the Fresh Glow Penin No.01 Nude Radiance. Currently, only one shade is available. This goes hand in hand with the other glowy bases that Burberry offers. It’s an effortless, glow-to-go pen to boost radiance with precision highlights when and where you need them.
It reminds me of the Benefit Watt’s up highlighter except a lot more creamy and less…shiny? This finish is much more natural that you can really blend out. Like the contour stick, the highlighter comes with a face chart explaining how to create an effortless highlight.
Burberry Nail Polish in Poppy Black – Oh man, I haven’t worn black nail polish in forever. First though, I’ve got to point out this gorgeous packaging! I love the checked design that is etched into the cap. When I first saw the packaging, I thought there was only a tiny amount of polish and a massive cap! Don’t worry, as the rest of the polish is just hiding under the cap.
This nail polish has great coverage – basically one coat for an opaque, glossy finish. I feel like the price point is a bit steep at $23 – however, if you’re looking to own a gorgeous, high end nail polish…this is for you. There are more coloursin this range as well.
Finally, my favourite item so far…
Burberry Lip Velvet soft matte lip colour in No. 437 Oxblood. This! This colour! Oxblood is a gorgeous wine colour lipstick with a velvety matte finish. I love the texture of this lipstick! As you may already know, I’m in love with Kat Von D’s Studded Lipstick. I’ve fallen in love with matte finishes! KVD’s formula’s can be quite drying.
When I first applied this, it felt more like a cream finish! It took me off guard because I was expecting a more dry, matte finish. After about a minute, the formula set. It’s got a matte finish, but it will rub off. It’s got a lovely stain to it though, so you won’t have to worry about a dark line around your lips.
I don’t typically wear bold lipsticks like above (only when I’m feeling adventurous, hehe), but I’ve been wearing it as a stain – gently patted into the lips for a lighter finish. It’s time that I break away from my safety net of oranges and corals and start pulling out the wines and berries for fall!
What are your thoughts? Have you tried any of Burberry’s beauty products? Is there anything you’d be excited to try? Thanks for reading!
I got to play around with some of the products in the store, as well as getting my makeup done by the Burberry makeup artist!
Just in case you’re wondering, lots of samples were missing from the counter because makeup artists were demonstrating them on people!
The Burberry beauty collection was primarily focused on their gorgeous base products. Based on their iconic trench coats, the base makeup and foundations are fresh, effortless, waterproof, and light to wear. The Burberry Cashmere foundation comes in 14 different shades! Effortlessly buildable and blendable, the creamy texture melts on to the skin for a soft-matte finish and lightweight, weatherproof result. For reference, the MUA used No.20 Ochre on my skin. She also used the Face Contour Pen to contour my nose, cheekbones, and jaw, followed by the Fresh Glow Pen to add a soft highlight.
The foundation was so lightweight and comfortable, yet had a great medium amount of coverage! Definitely less noticeable than my current Revlon Nearly Naked foundation, which has a creamier texture.
These Effortless Kohl Eyeliners were really nice – super pigmented and were incredibly smooth to swatch. The makeup artist used a gold/ smoky green colour and it was incredibly flattering!
Absolutely in love with these cream blushes. These Lip and Cheek Bloom pots have a lovely, almost moussey consistency. When applied to the cheeks, they become a soft powder. The colours look quite bright but apply sheerly and have very buildable coverage. The orange one is right up my alley! The MUA applied No.5 Peony (bottom left) to my cheeks, and it was a very pretty colour!
The Autumn/Winter 2015 runway collection had a very military / camoflauge theme. Lots of greens, khakis, nudes, and champagnes. The runway eyeshadow palette was inspired by the Burberry Bucket Bag in camouflage suede, and the three eye colours can be applied as single shades or combined to create a bohemian smokey eye effect.
There were also eyeshadow quads inspired by some of Burberry’s iconic runway looks. I personally love the set in the middle – those rosy shades are gorgeous!
Needless to say, I’m absolutely in love with Burberry products. I’d love to try out more of the base colours, and their concealer! The MUA used a creamy and pigmented concealer with a sponge applicator to spot conceal and I loved the texture – must check that out next time I’m at Sephora.
What are your thoughts? Have you tried any of Burberry’s beauty products? Is there anything you’d be excited to try? You can also purchase Burberry products on Sephora’s online store! Thanks for reading!
Recently, H&M has entered the beauty market. Many of their department stores are introducing a beauty section, complete with foundations, blushes, body products, and more. This department will include over 700 different makeup products, with seasonal and limited edition products! I was at Eaton’s Centre in Toronto earlier today and decided to drop by to check it out for myself!
Apologies in advance for the spotty photo quality… I took all of the photos on my phone!
I had a meeting this morning so I went to Starbucks and got a chai tea latte with soy! The new seasonal cup designs are really nice. I can’t wait til they bring out the holiday flavours again… Chestnut praline lattes are the absolute best!
So H&M really upped their game! The H&M in Eatons is under construction and the store itself looks like a bit of a mess, especially since they moved a good chunk of their men’s section into an H&M Men’s standalone store on the second floor. The beauty section is located on the 2nd floor towards the cashier.
They are offering items such as bath and body products, as well as towels and cleansing cloths.
They also have a few different makeup bags available for purchase.
You will also find candles and other scented items. Prices are comparable to Loblaw’s/ Superstore’s home section prices.
The setup for the makeup booths remind me of Sephora, with large bright shelves and a sample of every product are displayed. This booth carried powdered blushes, cream blushes, illuminators, and powder puffs. Each of the shelves was neat and full stocked, but that’s probably just because the booth opened up about a week ago. Hopefully it doesn’t turn into a disaster zone.
Many different lip pencils, crayons, creams, and lipsticks on display. H&M offers quite a large variety of shades. I can’t tell you about the pigmentation or colour payoff as I didn’t try any on my lips, but I did swatch a few colours and they all seemed good to me! I’m pretty sure that most of the lipsticks had a glossy finish though.
Haha, you can see me sipping on my drink in this photo! H&M had a fully loaded nail section with an Essie-esque selection of colours. Not sure about the quality. Packaging wasn’t too glamorous but the bottles had a nice shape. Definitely nice if you’re looking for a very specific colour, I’m sure there are lots of great dupes here.
H&M also carried a huge selection of foundation shades, which is nice! Each foundation had a corresponding powder foundation. They also offered concealers, as well as base quads and correctors.
Eyeshadows galore! Each of these individual shades came in it’s own small compact. They are quite decently sized, with each pan being slightly larger than a toonie. I swatched one of the glittery shades and the glitter chunks were quite large compared to micro shimmers.
I believe there was also a section with eye shadow palettes too!
They also carried a good selection of brushes. There were lots of different types, ranging from small detailer brushes, eye shadow, contour, and base brushes.
The pricing for these items are comparable to mid – higher end drugstore brands. Think L’Oreal – Revlon price range.

Matte matte matte – I’m all about the matte lipsticks recently. After my love affair with Kat Von D’s Studded Lipstick in Lovecraft (which I honestly don’t shut up about), I’ve been addicted to matte lips. I don’t like the sticky or wet feeling from glosses, lipsticks often smudge off… Luckily, my friend Jen told me about the Colourpop Ultra-Matte Lipsticks!
Colourpop Ultra Matte liquid lipsticks are exactly what the name implies – they’re a liquid lipstick foruma that dries suuuper matte on the lips. Not satin ~KVD studded lipstick~ matte, no, I’m talkin dry lips. Buuuuut, the forumula is intensely pigmented.
I picked up four colours – donut, ouiji, bumble, and avenue! They retail for about $6 USD each, and definitely give you a bang for your buck! I haven’t found too many matte lip products in the drugstore that come in colours that I like. Colourpop has a wide selection of colours to choose from!
Donut is a bright peachy shade. Ouiji is a bright coral red. Bumble is a dusty warm terracotta. Avenue is a deep yellow red. Each of these swatches were swiped 1-2 times, so you can see the amount of colour payoff you get!
A closer look at the swatches! (Upper: Ouiji, lower: Donut)
I’ve been wearing Donut the most. It’s bright, but not crazy bright. It’s a fun pop of colour which seems more appropriate for day time! Ouiji was a super fun bright colour for summer, or nights out.
(Upper: Avenue, lower: Bumble)
Bumble is a nice muted shade for fall, I’m sure I’ll be wearing it a lot! I don’t have many dark lipsticks so I picked up Avenue. I have a rimmel lipstick that’s around the same colour, except it always rubs off super quickly and I’m left with a drag queen-esque border around my lip line.
These are quite drying so make sure to exfoliate your lips before wearing them!
I know many people (including myself) thought that Donut and Bumble looked quite similar on the website. I tried to compare in people swatches but couldn’t find a good comparison, so here you go! I’d swatch Solow too but I don’t own it, but I think Solo is more mauvey.
Hope these swatches helped! It’s hard to blend after the formula dries, and these liquid lipsticks dry fast! Also, it takes forever to take off (so much staining) so make sure you have a good makeup remover at the end of the day.
Have you tried any Colourpop products before? Which one is your favourite?
I recently got a new makeup bag, so I thought I’d share some of the products which I’ve been wearing on a daily basis!
My new cosmetic pouch is a cute watermelon pink one from eBay. It’s really nice quality – I don’t mind as much if it get’s dirty (which is inevitable). It’s in the colour “watermelon pink” and has stitched details all across the front! It’s medium sized but can fit everything I need, minus the Naked 2 palette.
So… the contents!
Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette – I recently sold my almost-new Naked 3 on r/makeupexchange and finally bought the Naked 2! I had a 10% off VIB coupon so I figured now was as good as a time to get it.
I’ve been loving the shades YDK, Chopper, Suspect, and Pistol. As opposed to the other Naked palettes, where I’ve been partial to a few shades and didn’t touch the others, I’ve been using all of the Naked 2 shades! Absolutely in love. I think my thirst for eye shadow palettes has been quenched!
Tarte Park Avenue Princess bronzer – deluxe sample size. I got this in a previous Ipsy bag! It’s a deluxe sample of their Park Ave Princess bronzer. However, I have the same bronzer in my Rainforest After Dark palette and this sample looks slightly more shimmery? Maybe satin finish? Either way, it’s not the same. I’ve been using it every day and haven’t seemed to scratch the surface. It’s more cool toned than my NYC sunny bronzer and I like the way it looks on my skin.
Chloe Eau De Parfum – my little Chloe rollerball that goes everywhere with me! I’m pretty sure it’s my ~signature scent~. I’ve only got about a third left and I love the clear, simplistic packaging!
I recently went to a makeup warehouse sale and picked up this Revlon Nearly Naked foundation for only $4! What a steal. The warehouse lighting was kind of dodgy but I took a chance and bought 130 Shell. Luckily, it suits my skin tone perfectly!
The bottle is made of glass and does not have a pump….Ugh. I hate this style of packaging. Too much foundation pours out and it gets really messy! ğ I’d rather have plastic packaging and a pump top instead of glass!
Urban Decay Primer Potion mini – a sample from a sephora order. Helps my eyeshadow last longer!
Anastasia Beverly Hill Dip Brow Pomade in soft brown – a cool toned medium brown which is waterproof and lasts all day! I apply it with an angled brush.
Aveeno Positively Radiant CC Eye Cream – you can read my full review here, but I like using it as a BB cream mini! I use it everywhere as a light concealer to touch up with instead of just using it on the eyes.
And finally, my Kat Von D Studded Lipstick in Lovecraft. This is a mini version from a 100 point perk from Sephora, and I fell in love with the colour! It took a tonne of hunting around, calling 7 Sephoras until I found a full size in stock! But for now I’m using up my mini. ğ
Those are some of the items that I’ve been loving recently!
Have you tried any of these items? What do you carry in your cosmetic bag? Do you have any holy grail items? Thanks for reading!
I’ve been familiar with Aveeno as a brand for a very long time. A few years ago, when I started to research and invest more into my skincare regime, I swore by Aveeno’s foaming facial cleansers. I’m also a huge fan of their calming bath powders…so relaxing!
I had the opportunity to try out some Aveeno products from their Positively Radiant line!
The packaging is what always draws me to Aveeno products. It’s made of this matte cardboard, which really goes along with their whole ‘natural’ theme!
The first thing I’d like to share are these Positively Radiant CC Eye Creams! I received them in two shades – fair/light and medium. Light/fair fit me well, so I gave the medium shade to my mum! The CC creams contain active naturals total soy complex which claims to grant a more radiant look to the skin, fixing tone, texture, dullness, blotchiness, and brown spots!
It works kind of like a concealer. It’s medium coverage, which is impressive because it’s marketed as a tinted moisturizer. It also claims to improve skin over time, concealing dark circles and puffiness around the eyes! The skin around the eyes is quite delicate as well, so we want to make sure to take care of it. This CC cream is also oil-free, hypoallergenic, and non-comedogenic (which means it won’t cause blackheads or irritation by blocking pores)!
The applicator kind of reminds me of a lipgloss tube applicator! The shape allows for it to be applied directly to the under eyes, however I’d recommend applying it with your fingertips as sometimes too much products squeezes out.
I have quite light skin with peach undertones, and the fair-light shade matches my skin tone perfectly. Medium is a slightly darker shade that will suit tanned – medium skin tones! Overall I liked the formula of the CC eye creams – it felt super moisturizing and has good coverage! It retails for $19.99.
Next up, a classic in the Aveeno moisturizing line….
The Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 15. I absolutely love this moisturizer – I’ve actually purchased it in the past and loved it! It’s a lightweight and moisturizing cream that absorbs quickly into the skin and doesn’t leave an oily residue behind. It also contains Aveeno’s active naturals soy complex to even tone, smooth texture, and soften skin!
I always apply a moisturizer before I apply makeup, and it’s nice to have one that keeps your skin hydrated without feeling oily. It’s quick drying and hypoallergenic, which is great because my skin is quite sensitive to moisturizers! This is currently my day cream, love the light scent and texture. It retails for $21.99
You can find these products at most drug stores / department stores!
Have you tried any Aveeno products? What are your thoughts about the CC cream craze? Have you tried any other tinted moisturisers?
The Sephora Meet Your Match 2015 set contains 6 deluxe size minis – 3 lip products and 3 nail polishes. The nail colors and lipsticks are set to match!
Purple set – Nails Inc nail polish in Devonshire Row // Bite lip gloss in Strangefruit
Nude set:Hourglass Lip Gloss in Child // Formula X Nail Color in Invincible
Coral set:Tarte Lipsurgence Lip Tint in Elite //Deborah Lippmann Nail Lacquer in Girls Just Want to Have Fun
What beautiful colours! I feel like these are great to wear year round – you’ve got a colour for every season! Coral for summer, nude for spring/winter, and purple for fall! Of course, you can wear them however you want.
Taking a look at the lip colours – What a varied selection! Honestly, I’d typically only reach for one of the shades. Tarte’sElite is a gorgeous red-colour that is absolutely perfect – corals are my safe zone. Orange toned lip products are my favourites because they work well with my skin tone. I actually bought this set for Tarte’s Elite, so I’m 110% pleased with that.
Bite‘s Strangefruit isn’t really one I’d typically go for, but it’s a pretty colour! A bright purple gloss that doesn’t appear as bright on the lips when used alone. It’s great for a nice pop of color. I’m trying to be more adventurous, I swear!
Hourglass lipgloss in Child is another safe one – doesn’t have much colour payoff by itself on the lips, but is a lovely gloss none-the-less. Not tacky or sticky, and it works with my coral lippies to add a nice sheen to it!
Now, for nails! I’ve got a bit of an addiction to nail polish. My collection is composed of subtle variations of corals, blue-greens, and pinky-purples. Luckily, these colours fit right in!
Deborah Lippmann Nail Lacquer in Girls Just Want to Have Fun is a bright coral orange. It is very vibrant and screams summer! I like this shade because it seems so fun and eye catching.
Formula X Nail Color in Invincible is a lovely pale nude colour. The only other nude I have is Essie’s Sugar Daddy, which is incredibly sheer and has a more pink-toned colour payoff. This is a cream nude and has great coverage – only one to two shades for full opacity! Nails Incnail polish in Devonshire Row is a warm fuchsia purple. I think this works really well as a summer to autumn transition shade! It’s a beautiful colour and I’ve been using it a lot in my nail art. The sample sizes are also great for travel, as well as testing the colours out before committing to a larger size! The formulas of all polishes are great. I applied them with my Sally Hansen gel nail hardener and Diamond top coat, and did not have a noticeable amount of chipping! Have you tried any of these brands? Do you like the colour and product selections for this set? Thanks for reading!
I’m a lush fiend. Every time I walk past a LUSH store in a mall, I’m drawn in by all the pretty soaps and that strong fragrance that seems to warn you that the shop is quickly approaching. I like to treat myself to a Lush face mask about once a month… After discovering that their BB Seaweed face mask helped calm my acne, I’ve been hooked! I typically like to pick up BB Seaweed or Love Lettuce, as my skin seems to like them, and they’ve got a pleasant fragrance/texture.
However, when I popped into Lush the other day, I noticed two new face masks! I looked these up after and according to a few reviews, they were Oxford Street exclusives. I guess they’ve released them in North America!
My only disappointment was that there was hardly any product in the pot. I know its only 60g per container, but after looking after other people’s reviews, mine looks particularly empty! Hardly half of the pot! ğ
Rosy Cheeks is a thick, clay based face mask. It’s very thick, and a little goes a long way. It’s a little dry, similar to Oatifix. Once you rub it into your face, the mixture warms up and it becomes easier to spread!
In my opinion, Rosy Cheeks has the truest rose scent out of their various rose products. It’s got a scent that is very similar to my Chloe by Chloe perfume, so lovely. Rosy cheeks is supposed to calm and soothe rosy cheeks. As someone who experiences some facial redness (on a regular basis, not including shoujo blush), this is a godsend!
I have yet to notice any difference in the redness in my face, but it does smell very nice and I’m absolutely in love with that rose scent. It does make my face feel soft afterwards! If you’re a big rose fan like myself, I highly recommend this.
I never see reviews of people wearing the masks in reviews so I thought I’d pop this in, lol. And yes, I was taking a bath! Best time to relax with a face mask. ğ It’s a very light pink colour. (Also yay, my brows are growing in!!)
Only downside is that it’s almost double the price of their regular face masks. 60g retails for $12.95. It is only available in store at the moment. Not sure if this is a limited edition product or not. I love this mask, so it’ll likely become a special treat ğ
This mask is probably the complete opposite to Rosy Cheeks! Don’t Look At Me is a cleansing, scrubby face mask. It’s most striking feature is the bright blue colour! Compared to Rosy Cheeks, it’s very liquidy and has exfoliating properties. It has an invigorating cittrus scent!
Don’t Look At Me contains “ground rice to gently scrub away dry skin, murumuru butter moisturizes and zingy lemon juice tones.” I like this mask. It reminds me of a wetter, citrusy, and bright blue version of Love Lettuce! Very refreshing…more of a mask I’d wear in the mornings or before going out for a special event or something!
I can see why they call this mas, “Don’t look at me!” haha!! Again, this mask costs more than the regular masks at Lush. This retails at $10.95 for 60g! The lemon scent is quite strong. I like the texture – its exfoliating but not harsh. A nice treat but I think I’ll stick to my Love Lettuce, just because its about $4 more!
Overall, both masks are lovely, and I’ll likely repurchase in the future!
Have you tried these masks? What are some of your favourite Lush products? Have you tried any of their face masks before? Thanks for reading!
GUESS WHAT, IT’S BIRTHDAY MONTH. Most people just celebrate their birthday on the day they were born, but I like to start it at the beginning of the month because…
1. My birthday is at the end of the month (August 30) and I can’t wait that long. 2. Saves me from sitting at home in the evenings on Amazon adding things to my wishlist. 2. I can justify spending some money on a Sephora haul that I would normally be restraining myself from.
I’m also a firm believer in treating myself. So, today I’d like to share some things that I ordered from Sephora!
WOO! Let’s check out my haul!
I bought two things from the website, and the rest are freebies or samples! I like to order online because I usually order over the $75 free shipping mark, and you can get more samples/ beauty insider rewards online, as well as coupon codes! The Sephora website rotates samples weekly so there’s always something new to try out.
Sephora was offering deluxe samples of ‘trending’ products. I quite liked using the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion when I got my Naked 3 Palette (came with pod samples). I thought the lid was going to come with a mini applicator, but it’s just a squeezy tube.
I decided to redeem some of my beauty insider points for one of the rewards. I picked up a mini Kat Von D Studded Lipstick in Lovecraft. I always hear people harping on about how amazing KVD lip products are, so I decided to try it out. I’ve tried and loved the Kat Von D Lock-it Powder Foundation, (bought 2 compacts – pigmented and full coverage.) Smaller than I expected, but whatever.
Nars Satin Lip Pencils in Rikugien and Cruella. These are the Sephora 2015 Birthday Gifts, available for beauty insiders! I wanted to pick these up after seeing Emily get hers after a recent Sephora trip. Again, always hear people talking about how amazing Nars lip products are so I decided to give it a go. I’ve never tried anything from Nars so this was a first!
Kat Von D studded kiss lipstickin Lovecraft described as a ‘matte mauve pink nude’, (Little bit too dark to be a nude on me.) Applies matte, dries well, and lasts for a long time.
Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien is a frosted rose pink. Has more of a glossy finish than a rose finish. A nice brown-toned rose, suits me well but doesn’t have very long lasting power.
Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in a Cruella. A scarlet red. I don’t wear very many bold red shades. I feel like my lips are small and wearing a bold colour just accentuates that. However, it’s very nice to blend out. Probably will make more appearances during Christmas season!
I caved. I caved and finally bought the ambient lighting powder from Hourglass. Am I a weak woman? Yes, yes I am. But I always swatched it in Sephora and thought it looked so pretty! I’m also a sucker for gorgeous packaging and it doesn’t get any more luxe than this.
This is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light. Dim light is described as a neutral peach beige powder. I didn’t really want a highlighter since I’ve been using a Becca deluxe sample of their shimmering skin perfector and it’s the only one I really use… This powder is so finely milled and so lovely, looks incredibly flattering on the skin. It gives my complexion a lovely glow without looking shimmery. I opted for this over the ambient lighting palette because I wanted smaller packaging, and I have no real need for a shimmery highlighter and bronzer… NO RAGRETS!!
Sephora Meet Your Match2015 set, with deluxe sample sizes for some cult lip and nail favourites. Mainly bought this for the Tarte lipsurgence pencil because I originally swatched Elite in store and fell in love, but couldn’t justify the $29 price tag… Found there was a mini version and some nail products in this set, which worked out because I love all of the colours!
I’ll be doing a full review of this set, so keep your eyes peeled! Should be coming out next week! ğ
Follow me onbloglovin’ if you haven’t already so you don’t miss a post!
Here’s another one of my samples – a mini Atelier Cologne perfume in Sud Magnolia. I have another Atelier Cologne mini from a previous order (ssh) and this one is more citrus/floral scented, whereas the other was warmer/more earthy.
The text on the back of the poster is super cute! It says… “They met every year, without fail, always at the same celebration. He caught sight of her in the crowd. Her mask was adorned with white feathers and magenta crystals. He enjoyed a moment watching her search for him, but not for long as he yearned to have her dancing in his arms again.” How sweet! ;_;
Anyway, this was my haul! Hope you liked it! Such a good feeling to buy something again after putting myself on a Sephora ban since school ended…

In an effort to distract myself from my aching desire to peruse the Sephora website, I thought I’d do a makeup post. (It’s almost birthday month and my Sephora addiction relapses quite hard – half of my loves list is blushes!…) Blush is one of my favourite types of makeup – I’m drawn to the soft and sparkly peach, rose, and coral shades. I’ve built up a little collection over the years, by no means as big as other people’s but still, not too shabby.
I’m drawn to orange toned blushes – I’ve got yellow toned skin so I find warmer shades suit me better as opposed to cooler tones. As a result, most of my blush collection features colours that are quite similar.
I have about nine blushes in total. All (but one) are powders… I haven’t really delved much into liquid or cream formulas yet but it’s only a matter of time…..
Let’s take a closer look at some of my favourites!
Too Faced Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush in Candy Glow. I LOVE THIS ONE AHH I think its one of my favourites at the moment! It’s my only high end blush at the moment. Not too shimmery, and a mix of three gorgeous colors. The top is a bright pink, middle is a peach, and bottom is a darker pink- coral. They apply quite sheerly which is nice. I’ve mainly been using the bottom two colors at the moment. So pretty.
Hikari blush in Tango. I received this in an ipsy bag which was a nice surprise because it’s full size! It’s a bright, matte, warm toned pink shade that is super pigmented, so only the tiniest amount is needed, Not a color that I would normally go for, but super flattering none the less!
StilaPositively Pink blush for women’s breast cancer awareness. Bought this in the UK online because they were having a charity sale – this blush and a lip glaze for £6 which is a total steal! A matte pink blush with a light champagney pink ribbon in the middle.
Elizabeth Arden Pure Finish Highlighter. This isn’t technically a blush but it’s a rose-gold highlighter that I often use in place of, or mix with blush. The reason for its weird texture is that I dropped it and it shattered into fine pieces (thank god the compact was shut), so I had to use alcohol and mix everything together so it would dry as a solid piece. Thankfully this hasn’t affected the pigmentation too much!
Milani blush in Dolce Pink – a warm, bright pink blush with a very rosey gold / shimmery finish. Works kind of like a dual blush-highlighter finish! Very pretty, Milani sells some of the best drugstore blushes you can buy!
NYC Cosmetics blush in Prospect Park Rose. Pretty peachy pink matte – a very nice rosey coral.
Majolica Majorca Puff de Cheek blush in PK301 Peach. Probably my most orange-toned blush, this is more of a peach shade than a pink. Has a very nice natural finish, matte. I think this was one of the first blushes I bought, I ordered it on ebay from a Japanese cosmetics seller. The blush itself has dried out/hardened a bit so I have to scrape it in order to get some color! Still one of my favourite shades though, I feel like it really suits me.
Naris Up Love Chouchou blush in Peach pink – this isn’t so much of a peach shade, but rather a bright bright pink – almost as bright as the Hikari blush. The tinyiest amount will give you a bright finish. I’ve had this forever but I haven’t even hit pan on it yet! I tend to use this at conventions as it shows up really nicely in photos. It is mostly matte but has a little bit of shimmer in it, not a noticeable amount though.
So there we go~ my blush collection! This is probably more than I need, but I love blushes and I love wearing them. I have a lot of similar shades but they’re for my different…blush moods? Ya feel me?! I really want to get my hands on one of the Hourglass Ambient lighting blushes that all the beauty guru’s rave about but man I don’t think I can justify spending $50+ plus on one… lol.
What was your favourite shade? What are some of your go to blushes? Do you have any on your wishlist at the moment?
I would love it if you could follow me on Bloglovin!
I struggled with acne and breakouts until about a year and a half ago. Throughout my teens, I was constantly battling against constant breakouts, combination skin, and redness. It took a real jab at my self confidence – most of my friends, the bloggers I followed, and youtubers I looked up to all seemed to have flawless skin! I made it my mission to find out what worked for me. I’m happy to say that my skin has been healthier than ever!
Here are some of my favourite products. None of these are acne-specific, as I found my acne was not a result of hormones but product/ingredient irritation.
Garnier Skin Renew Radiance Moisture Cream // Garnier Pure 3 in 1 Cleaner // Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash // Korres Wild Rose Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial // Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm // Bioderma Crealine Solution Micellaire
Still in love with my Clinique cleansing balm! I rarely use makeup wipes to remove my makeup now, as I found that the rubbing irritated my skin. This cleansing balm massages into the skin as an oil, but emulsifies when water is added. It’s great at taking off waterproof makeup as well. It lasts forever (I bought mine in December), and you only need a tiny amount! I think this is a great skincare product to invest in. – $35 at Sephora
After cleasing, I like to sweep some Bioderma Crealine Solution Micellaire all over my face. I bought two large bottles in France last year and I’ve still got almost half a bottle left! Not irritating at all, doesn’t cause redness, and catches any last bit of makeup that I may have missed.
Another staple is Garnier’s Pure 3 in 1 cleanser, scrub, and mask. I love the scent of this – very fresh. It leaves my skin feeling clean and tingly! It’s a thick cream with scrubbing microbeads, but is gentle enough for daily use. Sometimes I leave it on for about 5-10 minutes as a mask while I’m in the bath or shower… feels lovely.
I bought the mini Simple moisturizing cleanser in Rite Aid when I was in LA as an impulse buy as I lost my Tosowoong powder cleanser. I’ve been using it almost every day before using my Garnier scrub – it feels very gentle, lathers up nicely, and makes my skin feel clean and moisturized! I’ll definitely be buying the full size after I use this up.
Finaaaaaally, my two favourite moisturizers. My skin isn’t particularly dry, but I make sure not to skip this step in the mornings/evenings. I think many of my skin irritations stemmed from dehydration so now I take extra care to ensure my skin is moisturized! The Garnier radiance moisturizer has vitamin C, and serves as my daily moisturizer! It makes my skin feel soft, and absorbs quickly without leaving an oily residue.
I like to treat my skin with the Korres Wild Rose sleeping facial cream if I’ve been out all day, or have been wearing a lot of makeup for a convention. It’s a real treat for the skin, and I find that it revives and nourishes the skin beautifully overnight! $48 at Sephora(US stores, I got mine at Shoppers for a few dollars more)
What’s are some of your favourite skincare items at the moment? Would you rather invest in higher end makeup or skincare products? Have you tried any of the products mentioned? I would love it if you could follow me on Bloglovin!
It’s summerrrrtimeee!! Which means that I change my nail color way too often because I’m indecisive. Not my fault though, there are too many good summer releases! Here are some of my favourite polishes at the moment… Not super summery, but beautiful colours none the less.
Mer-Maid for Each Other – Nicole by OPI // Watermelon Rind – China Glaze // Awakening – China Glaze // Peach Side Babe – Essie // Sugar Daddy — Essie
If you have thin nails like me, GET THE TRIPLE STRONG STRENGTHENER. I’M SERIOUS. This is like a gel coating for your nails that can be removed with nail polish remover. Two coats serving as your base strengthens your nails and makes them hard/resistant to peeling! Also the less your nails bend, the less likely your nail polish is to crack!
Current absolute fave – the ever-so-popular Peach Side Babe – part of Essie’s 2015 summer collection! The most perfect creamy pink/peach color with a glossy finish – absolutely gorgeous and completely screams summer! I don’t think this is a permanent color, so I’ll have to go purchase a backup. This is the closest shade I can find to my previous favourite, Rimmel’s Rose Libertine. So prettyyyyyy.
What are some of your favourite polishes of the moment?
I am the bath queen. I’m perfectly happy sitting in a hot bath for a few hours, gradually turning into a prune. I love bath products, from lush bombs and melts, to bath and body works, to japanese bath salts.
I’m in love with Bison bath salts. I’ve been using them forever (as you can probably note from the previous posts I’ve done, dating back to 2012!
I have 3 salts to share with you today!
“Soda flavour” bath salt. Smells like sweet soda, or ramune soda! Milky white powder that does not change color in the bath. Turns the water a milky white colour! It has a very fresh scent and has a very sweet scent.
Love the smell of these bath salts. Makes me feel relaxed and my skin feels more moisturized! Also produces a good amount of steam.
Next up, the “hot citron flavour” bath salt! Lovely citrusy scent, quite lemony.
The powder starts off as being pink with clear crystals, but turns orange when it hits the water! Super cool! The crystals are like little bath pop-rocks and make crackling noises when in the bath. Strong citrus scent is refreshing!
Finally, the “ginger soda flavor” bath salt pack. (My hand looks super red/purple/super freaky but its just because I was stirring the hot bath water heheheeeeee) Bath salts are a light orange/red color with yellow and clear crystals.
The bath powder turns yellow/orange when hitting the water. Not so much of a ginger scent, but definitely a noticeable soda/citron scent.
Finally, Bison’s Ginger Cola flavoured bath. A reallllly weird combination imo. I know it’s a sweath bath and ginger is supposed to help with it but…why cola..?
Powder is an orange/red color with clear and yellow crystals!
When it hits the water, it turns a brown color. I snapchatted my friend (add me – lovelyghost!) and said it looked like someone had thrown dirt in the bath. A less polite friend said it looked like someone crapped in the bath. Brown color was an immediate turnoff…….
Didn’t notice much of a steam effect or extra moisturization. I was totally thrown on the scent – cola with a weird side tinge of ginger? Doesn’t go together in my opinion, so this was a miss for me. The previous ginger-soda scent was much nicer…
Those are my thoughts on the bison bath salts I recently tried out! I’ll probably have a part 2 coming out after I go pick up a few more. There are a few more varieties I’d like to check out!
Have you tried bison bath salts before? What are your favourite kinds of bath products?
It’s the beginning of June, meaning today I’ll be sharing some of my beauty favourites from the past month! More specifically, what was in my june makeup bag. I’ll be making this a monthly feature since it seems to be quite popular! I also love sharing what I’ve been loving.
Starting off with the bag itself – a small pouch that came in an ipsy order (last month I think?) I love it HAHA because it’s true….
After the death of my Kat Von D Lock-it Powder Foundation (dark night, rummaging around bag, compact fell and exploded, tears were shed), I was out on the lookout for a new powder foundation. Reviews led me to the Tarte Amazonian Clay Powder Airbrush Foundation in Natural Fair Honey – a mineral foundation that comes in a medium sized pot (read my review here!). Now that it’s getting warmer and my skin is doing a bit better, I want to lighten up my base. The powder foundation gives medium coverage that’s buildable, and feels ultra light on the skin.
I’ve been using my trusty it Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Waterproof Concealer in neutral medium. My holy grail concealer – waterproof, amazing coverage, lasts all day.
Recently picked up the Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade in Soft Brown. After having an in depth convo about brow products with a friend (yes, this is what girls do), I cracked and bought it under her recommendation. My local Sephora was sold out of ash brown, so I bought soft brown instead. Matches my hair but I would prefer the cooler tone dip brow.. doesn’t make that much of a difference on me though.
Malin + Goetz mojito lip balm – favfavfav lipbalm, I love putting this on at night before bed!
Starlooks eyeliner pencil in olive – I’ve been turning to this pencil quite a lot because I haven’t been wearing much liquid eyeliner. This soft metallic pencil is easy to smoke out on the eyes.
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil in Ozone – this is a super cool product I got in an ipsy bag – the pencil has a waxy texture and makes sure your lip products last much longer than usual!
Urban Decay Perversion Mascara – my mom got this in her UD Naked on the Run palette but gave it to me because she doesn’t wear mascara! I only really use this on my lower eyelashes but I’ve been using it almost every day! A great rediscovery.
Little sephora pocket mirror – has a regular side and a magnified side.
Sample size perfume from a Sephora order of Dolce & Gabbanna the one eau de parfum. A very warm and slightly spicy scent – a bit heavy but works nicely if you just use the tiniest amount.
L’Oreal Color Riche Natural lipstick in 380 Luminous Coral- got this about a year ago in the UK, one of my favourite bright ~blood orange~ shades.
Tarte Amazonian Clay Rainforest After Dark Palette – beautiful face/eye palette with purples, browns/golds, a dusty rose blush, highlighter, and brozer. Mainly bought this for travel but the colors are lovely!
Deluxe sample of becca’s shimmering skin perfector – Got this forever ago in a sephora order (hahaha so many sephora orders….) and is one of my go-to highligher faves.
That’s what’s inside my makeup bag!
Have you tried any of my faves? What’s in your makeup bag? Do you have any favourite products this month?
Little makeup update for you. I got these tarte goodies in a recent Sephora order with a friend! Here’s a tip: if you ever want to order something from Sephora, do it with a friend! Free tracked shipping over $75, and you get a ton of site-exclusive samples that aren’t offered in store. My friend isn’t a frequent makeup buyer so her purchase added to my Beauty Insider points ğ
Anyway, sad news was last week, my second Kat Von D powder compact (still a baby – new and only a few weeks old) did a suicide jump from my purse one night after getting a ride back home in the evening. It was dark, I was searching around my bag for my keys, and suddenly my purse flipped upside down and the compact fell. Popped clean out of the pan and shattered all over the concrete porch. SUCH A SAD DAY. To top it off, it rained really hard the next day and washed everything away. $50 literally down the drain. :(((((
Anyway, summer is coming up and I thought it might be the time to switch to something a little bit lighter! The day after “the shattering’, my friend and I placed an order for some new makeup goodies. I have combination type skin and after a little bit of research, found out that Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Powder Foundation was a recommended choice by bloggers and beauty gurus alike. It claims to have medium to full coverage, sits lightly on the skin but lasts for a long time, and its mineral properties are better for the skin. Sounds good to me, especially since the Kat Von D powder (which I briefly reviewed here) was more on the heavier side.
I’m in love with Tarte’s packaging! I love the whole bamboo look, very sleek and pretty! The makeup itself encased under a mesh stocking cover to prevent spillage, which is great because I have a tendency to use way too much powder and cake my face up. It also has a plastic stopper built into the lid that presses down on the mesh when you close it, making sure that no powder flies out or moves around.
I use the shade ‘fair honey’, which is suited for fair skin with peach undertones. I debated between this shade and the second lightest shade, but this one suited my perfectly. The powder comes with it’s own brush but I didn’t feel like spending an extra $34 on it when I have a little stash of Real Technique brushes at home.
I really like this powder – it suits my skin very nicely and it builds up to have a very flawless finish without caking up or feeling heavy. I’ve been using it every day for the past week or so and it wears very well. My face tends to get oily after a while but this powder kept my face under control! It’s a bit on the pricey side ($44, which is about the same as what I paid for the Kat Von D powder and that was totally worth it.)
The other thing I picked up was the Tarte Rainforest After Dark palette! I tried looking for the link on Sephora but it seems to have been taken offline (“out of stock”) since it was limited edition…which leads me to wonder if I ordered the last one? WOO YAY! ğ
Tarte does it again with their gorgeous packaging! This one features a wood base design with a foil gold snake. The snake has a little purple gem on its head…very pretty.
Let me just say that my attempts at color correcting were not that great. Should have taken photos against a white backround but I thought the grass was a nice touch at the time. For more accurate palette color, reference the Tarte website.
I ordered this as a little graduation gift for myself! After seeing it in stores but never buying it due to it constantly being out of stock, I finally gave in and ordered it online! I bought this palette for several reasons –
It has a really nice selection of colours – some mattes and some shimmers.
It’s a 4 in one product – eyeshadows, highlighter, bronzer, and blush,
It’s easy and compact to travel with, which is great for vacations or conventions because less makeup to carry around.
It has a really big and convenient mirror!
I was kind of fed up carrying so many separate bulky products when I went to conventions. Unfortunately some of my nice makeup (and an iPhone cable) went missing when I stayed in my hotel at Anime North ( >_>), so I figured the less bits and bobs to keep track of, the better. This palette has colors that I love using, and can create a wide variety of looks.
Pink toned colors. Features a satin champagne highligter, a matte pink toned beige, a satiny mauve, and a satiny plum/ dark purple shade, Unleashed is a dusty nude rose which I was unsure about at first, but fell in love with upon application.
The other side of the palette features warm brown colors: a gold shimmer, a matte brown, a cool toned ‘espresso’ brown shade, and a bronzer which is very similar to the NYC sunny bronzer that I’ve used forever.
Absolutely in love with this palette, definitely one of my favourites and I’m glad I got it before it ran out of stock! You can still order it from the Tarte website!
What do you think about this palette? Do you own any Tarte products? Are there any you would like to try out? Let me know in the comments below!

Hey guys! Thought I’d do another makeup bag to show you what I’ve been using in my daily routine. (I know, I did one of these in November, but I love doing them! :D) I think I’ll do a proper what’s in my purse post+video soon!
This is my current makeup bag! I got it from Sephora over the summer I think, they were doing some promotion for sample sized products and they all came in this lovely little red pouch! It’s medium sized and fits everything, even though it does look like it’s bulging out hehe.
Here are all of the products that I’ve been using in my every day makeup lately! I don’t always use everything, sometimes I just use concealer and power and mascara and I’m out!!
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind dark spot concealer treatment / ItCosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye waterproof concealer in neutral medium / Kat Von D Lock-It Powder Foundation in Light 45 / Smashbox 24 Hour Eye Shadow Primer / Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream in 21 Light Beige
Face / base products! I’m still quite pale at the moment because winter only ended here in Toronto quite recently… Although it’s getting much warmer now (in the 20s!) so hopefully I’ll be able to see some sun soon! The second concealer and the smashbox eye shadow primer are sample size, easier to transport in my makeup bag!
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector / NYC Bronzer in Sunny / Hikari blush in Tango
Color and cheek products – Becca highlighter for a nice subtle shimmer, NYC Sunny for contouring (it shattered so I have to find another one, but it seems to be sold out everywhere I go!) and a Hikari blush I received in my ipsy bag! It’s a pretty matte pinky coral.
Rimmel eye lash curler / Kat Von D Tattoo Eyeliner pen / L’Oreal Telescopic liquid eyeliner / Maybelline Rocket mascara / Majolica Majorca Jeweling Eyes eyeshadow quad / Milani Easybrow eyebrow pencil in natural taupe / Maybelline Great Last clear mascara
Fairly standard eye products – nothing that hasn’t been featured before haha. Resorting back to my faves. I like a fairly neutral eye with some subtle shimmer, and I’ve been using a lighter coloured eyebrow pencil to fill in my eyebrows! I found that filling them in with a pencil that matches my hair colour (dark brown) made my face look really intense, since I’m still got my winter paleness! D:
Malin+Goetz Mojito Lip Balm, Dior Addict Extreme lipstick in Riviera
If you’re looking for a new lip balm, I hiiiighly recommend the malin+goetz mojito one! I originally got a sample in an ipsy bag and totally fell in love. It moisturises and rejuvenates your lips and makes them look really full and nice! The smell is really nice too!
People often ask me on instagram/tumblr about what makeup products I’m currently using! Whenever I find a look that I like, I wear it nonstop for maybe a month or so! I recently threw out at least a quarter of my makeup because it was old. almost finished, or never used. No point in letting makeup sit there if it’s just going to fester bacteria! D:
I’ve really been looking after my skin recently, so I’ve invested some well known brands! I definitely recommend all of these if you want to shell out a few extra dollars. Here are a few products that I’ve been loving recently.
My little quilted makeup bag! Same one that I used in my last “what’s in my makeup bag” post. Now that I look back at that post, it was almost exactly one year ago!
For my birthday, my friend Mika bought me this Kat Von D Lock It Powder Foundation in Light 2! I was looking for a powder foundation opposed to liquid foundation so I could have something quick to apply but still give good coverage. She works at a Sephora and recommended it because it was her favourite powder!! Pretty packaging ğ Reminds me of the Kiss Me Heroine powder compact that I used back in high school!
It’s a very finely milled powder with pretty good coverage! I have combination skin that gets pretty oily in my t-zone so this helps to control that. It’s great for the days when I wake up late, covers the redness on my face pretty well. Comes with a soft squishy sponge!!
Milani blush in Rose D’oro – applies fairly sheer with a fine gold shimmer, very pigmented and buildable so you don’t need a lot! I used it quite often over the summer and it hasn’t gone down at all!! Also loving this make up forever mini lipstick (came in the Sephora free birthday gift this year).
Lovely red/brown toned lipstick, I think it really suits my skin tone! It’s only a tiny size which is great to pop in my handbag/ carry with me. I’m thinking of looking into the full size version once I finish the mini one, I’m in love with the colour.
Bought the Naked Basics palette because I’m a total sheep and love following hype trains hahaaaaa…. One of my friends bought it and kept talking about it and made the mistake of letting me use it because I fell in love and couldn’t stop thinking about it for the following two weeks lol. It’s mostly neutral matte shades and I love them, super versatile and has all the colours I need!
Mini makeup forever mascara that came in the Sephora birthday gift with the lipstick. It’s pretty meh, doesn’t really do much for me. Slightly extends my upper lashes but does nothing for my non-existent lower lashes. And finallllyy the It Cosmetics bye bye undereye concealer which I reviewed here, total godsend product!!
But yeaaa that’s what I’m mainly using at the moment!! What are you using at the moment? Recommendations are always welcome!

I’m back on the beauty subscription train! I used to have an ipsy subscription back when it was MyGlam but then cancelled it after the products got boring. I can’t remember what was being offered, but something a few months ago caught my eye and I reactivated my subscription! It’s been worth it because every month I’ve received something awesome! ğ
I’ll try doing monthly reviews of these bags again to get back into frequent posting so I hope you guys are looking forward to more beauty posts!
This month’s theme was “Girl Meets Glitter”, although I didn’t really receive any glittery products lol! The eyeliner is kinda metallic? If anything the makeup bag is glittery, but I don’t really use the makeup bags anyway….
Anyway, here’s what I received this month! I really like this month’s bag because I’ve used everything so far! ğ
Starting off with the hairspray! I don’t really use much hairspray in general because I have very thick hair and I usually use hair oil to smooth down my hair. I do use hairspray on my wigs though to keep them in place when I’m cosplaying! The travel size is great because it will come in handy at cons. ğ
The body lotion is in a tiny tube and has a creamy citrus smell! I really like it. There is such a small amount in the tube so I haven’t really been able to see any difference in my skin.
The gem eye pencil – I have soooo many eyeliner pencils (hoarding freebies lol) , so it’s nice to finally have one in a different colour! This is an olive colour however it’s more on the brown/gold side than green. It’s a lovely colour for fall. It’s also very soft and pigmented which is lovely because I’ve used a ton of different pencils and sometimes the coloured ones can be quite hard and difficult to draw with.
Here are some swatches! Some subtle glitter, nothing too crazy. Appears to be almost brown in most lighting I think, so it’ll definitely work well with other eyeshadow colours!
Next – J.Cat Wonder Lip paint! It comes in a small tube. I’ve read that these are dupes/ are comparable to the OCC lip tars, but I’ve never tried them before so I can’t say if that’s true or not! I got the shade ‘Mad Splatter’ which is a rosy pinky colour. I tend to veer more towards red/orange based lip products because pinks can sometimes look weird on my skin tone (esp if they’re blue-based), but this one works nicely!
It’s got a hint of glitter in it! Very tiny glitter bits though, nothing super noticeable!!
I like to apply this by taking a little bit and patting it on my lips with my fingers. I like more of a faded/gradient look. This can be layered up though if you’d like a bolder lip / brighter colour!
Aaaand finally, the ~big~ special item in this month’s ipsy bag! This is the IT Cosmetics concealer which is supposed to be a ~cult classic~. (I’ve never heard of the brand before though haha.) It’s a very thick concealer though, and comes in this tiiiiiny tube! (SD card for comparison!)
I have craaaazy under eye circles (staying up and either watching youtube videos or crunchyroll into the wee hours of the night lol), so I was looking for a new concealer! I really like this concealer, it does a great job of masking my eyebags! It’s super pigmented and you only need the tiniest amount because a little goes a long way!
I received it in the ‘neutral medium’ shade and I was a bit worried because my skin is quite pale and I usually have to have either the lightest or 2nd lightest shade for most brands that I’ve tried. It matches my skin nicely though. I’ll finish the rest of this tube and decide whether I want to invest in the full sized product!
Hope this was helpful! If you’re interested in signing up and trying out these products then you can check it out here!ğ
Are there any products you’re curious about/ want to try out?

Here’s a review for you guys! I recently went and tossed out over half of my circle lens collection because they were approaching their expiry dates! I usually keep lenses for 6-8 months before replacing them. I have a few pairs that I wear quite regularly because I like how they look and wear them often in videos.
The GEO Shinny (now known as Puffy 3-Tone) are my favourite style of circle lenses. I’ve tried out the pink, blue, and grey colours and I love how they look! (I’ve gone through 3 pairs of pink, and one of grey / blue). I had to throw out my recent pair of pink and my grey ones were tearing at the side so I decided to try out a new colour! I’ll be cosplaying Sailor Jupiter and Noire from Fire Emblem soon so that means…green eyes! I hardly ever wear green lenses because I didn’t think it suited me, but I really like how these look on me! :0
I bought these from LoveShoppingholics ($23.90 USD)! I’ve checked on a few sites and most major ones (Candylens, PinkyParadise) sell them. They all generally go for the same price.
My lenses were packaged in a bubblewrap mailer. Everything came contained in a cute plastic bag. This included: pouch with lenses/lens case, a thank you letter, and two freebies! Hair velcros (great for holding bangs/hair out of face while doing makeup), and a collagen eye mask.
Lens bottles and a cute hippo lens case! These lenses are cute, but over years of using them I’ve found that they tend to loosen up and leak quite easily. If you go to a lot of cons/travel with lenses often, I’d recommend to invest in a different case that closes tightly! I tried out a cool new type of lens case which I’ll review later in this post! ğ
I wear plano which are just the clear 0.00 degree lenses!
Here’s what the lenses look like! These lenses are on the larger side. They are 15mm lenses, and feature 3 different tones – a dark outer green ring, a jade green middle, and a light green/yellow centre.
This is how the lenses appear on my eyes, which are a medium-light brown. The lenses do a great job of covering up your natural eye colour! I also like how the outer ring isn’t a solid black, so they look natural but allow you to achieve superkawaii massive shoujo manga eyes at the same time! ğ
Here’s a comparison shot!! The first picture shows one lens in and one without – as you can see, they are very enlarging! They are also quite bright as these were shot in regular indoor lighting,
All in all, I love these lenses! I’ll probably be ordering the brown and violet ones soon. ğ I’ll do another review soon!
I also ran out of lens solution, so I stopped off at Loblaws I mean Great Canadian Superstore and was going to pick up the usual Bausch+Lomb ReNu lens solution…but this one was on sale! Hooray for introductory offers! I love trying out new products so I figured why not. (It was also like $10 cheaper than the ReNu kit so my wallet won out haha!!)
So this new lens solution claims to be a new revolutionary type of lens cleaning solution + disinfectant that will fully clean your lenses in 4 hours. The solution foams up and apparently the bubbles are supposed to help to fully eliminate germs. Sounds promising! It also came with this weird basket type contact case which I’ve never seen before?
Basically you unscrew the “basket” and full the container up to a line with lens solution. You open the basket compartment and put the lens inside and close the lids. Then you reinsert it into the container. In order to take the lenses out, you take out the basket and the lens will stick to the top of the lid for easier removal! ğ I really like this because it saves having to claw around for the lens (getting dirt in the solution, potentially tearing lens, dropping lens etc.) I’m thinking of buying more of these and replacing all of my cases haha.
Would you like to see more reviews of lenses or certain products? Let me know! ğ

I’m going to straight up admit that I have a makeup addiction. (I blame Boots/Superdrug on my exchange with all of their 3 for 2 sales even though makeup was like double the price lol.) A small beauty outlet near my house was going out of business. I happened to pass by one day while I was thrifting and picked up a few things for super cheap!
Bought these 3 things for about $10!! Pretty good considering it would normally cost maybe $25 in total at Walmart or something.
I can usually find a way to justify buying new makeup. Needed new mascara because my current one (mini Benefit They’re Real’ sample that I got with a magazine or something) is running out. Wanted to try the Baby Skin primer but didn’t want to pay the $10 for it because I have a mini Benefit Porefessional sample (also from a magazine, do you see my problem) that I’m still getting through. I can always justify a shimmery champagne eyeshadow because it’s what I wear every day.
I really like this eyeshadow pot! I’ve never tried any of Maybelline’s Colour Tattoo line but I’ve heard some pretty good things about it! I got this eyeshadow pot in the colour 55 Barely Brazen, It’s a super shimmery nude/champagne colour. I usually wear it to set my Bourjois Shimmer Shine cream eyeshadow in beige metallique. Very pigmented, I like it.
As I said before, I picked this up solely because it was on sale ($4 as opposed to $10). It’s a clear primer that aims to hide/minimize pores and grant the look of soft baby skin. I haven’t used this on my entire face yet, just on my cheeks and on the sides/around my nose. I don’t really know if it’s helping my makeup stay on properly but I guess I’ll test it out some more.
I swear, this mascara is super hyped up. I watch a ton of beauty gurus on youtube and all of them (especially my favourite, Ingrid/MissGlamorazzi) swears by it. When I saw this on sale, I figured there must be some proof behind the hype!!
Kinda disapointed when I saw the brush. I was kinda expecting something with longer bristles at least? I guess in my mind, I was expecting it to be like the Benefit They’re Real mascara. I got the waterproof formula which I never really buy since it’s such a hastle to take off!
I’m not sure if it’s because I have straight asian eyelashes or if the formula is too wet, but it doesn’t work as well on me as it does on others I guess. Didn’t really hold curl, made my lashes a little longer but nothing amazing. Oh well, just gonna use this up and then go back to Benefit or L’Oreal!
Glad I didn’t end up spending a ton of money on this – this haul is an alright sacrifice for $10. At least the eyeshadow is nice!
Have you tried any of these? Do they work on you? Any recommendations for other mascaras/primers would be appreciated as well!
