Basic Cosplay Staff Tutorial (ft. Sailor Pluto’s Time Key)

Basic Cosplay Staff Tutorial (ft. Sailor Pluto’s Time Key)

If you’ve been following me on Snapchat, Twitter, and Instagram, you’ll have seen me posting about my Sailor Pluto cosplay! Sailor Pluto is my third (and probably last) Sailor Scout cosplay, following Sailor Jupiter and Mars. I wanted to go out with a bang, featuring a large prop!

Today, I’ll be teaching you how to make a cosplay staff. The materials are all pretty basic and accessible, and it doesn’t cost a whole lot of money either! Keep reading to see how it’s done…

Uncle Tetsu’s Angel Cafe; Toronto’s First Maid Cafe!

Uncle Tetsu’s Angel Cafe…

Tucked away in the heart of the Toronto is a huge Otaku secret. In their efforts to expand and introduce Toronto to Japanese food culture, the famous Uncle Tetsu’s Cheesecake cafe has opened up a maid cafe.

Maid cafes are a prominent and reoccuring theme in Japanese anime and otaku culture, and can famously be found in areas of Tokyo such as Akihabara. Maid cafes combine elements of anime, and cosplay culture – it is often a small, brightly lit, and pastel coloured cafe. Customers are greeted with a hearty “Irasshaimase!” or welcome! Girls in maid uniforms (think more cute and reserved than kinky/sexy) serve desserts such as cakes, parfaits, and teas to visitors, as well as perform dances at set times.

Mle and I decided to visit Uncle Tetsu’s Angel Cafe! Here’s what we discovered…

Sailor Pluto Cosplay Progress: Tiara, Boots, & Collar

Sailor Pluto Cosplay Progress – Part 1

Hello everyone! Today I’ll be sharing some of the progress on my Sailor Pluto cosplay! If you’ve been following me on my other social media accounts like Instagram and Facebook, you’ll have known that I’ve previously cosplayed Sailor Mars and Sailor Jupiter! I’m such a huge fan of the Sailor Moon series as it was quite dear to me growing up. Pluto will likely be my last Sailor Scout cosplay before I retire the bodysuit, and I’ve decided to post all of my progress.

I’m modifying my basic white Sailor Scout bodysuit, and the black skirt is a simple circle skirt pattern. The bow is borrowed from my Sailor Mars cosplay.

I have a few more updates to come, so stay tuned! You can check out my previous cosplay tutorials / progress reports under the Cosplay Progress tab.

This post will be covering the tiara, boots, and sailor collar.

Sailor Tiara

Sailor Tiaras have a very basic design and are super easy to make! The design is quite straight forward – it’s a ‘v’ shape. Measure across your forehead and sketch out accordingly. Here’s a template you can use!

I transfered the design onto craft foam, and then sandwiched two layers of worbla over top! I didn’t bother smoothing out the worbla with gesso because most of it is hidden under the hair, and the textured design gives some dimension when photographed! I made the gem out of worbla scraps and painted over it with nail polish for that enamel gem look.

I attached ribbon to the ends. I tie the ribbons over the top of my wig cap and tuck the rest under the wig!

Sailor Collar

The sailor collars are super simple to make – I initially used this tutorial on the McCalls cosplay blog.

I traced the design from my Jupiter sailor collar and cut out two pieces of black material and one piece of white felt (which gives support and shape to the collar.) I sewed the pieces together and flipped it inside out, leaving the back straight edge open.

I folded and tucked in the back edge, pinned it, and sewed it! After that I ironed everything out so the seams were all flat and smooth. I also stitched two little button snaps onto the pointed ends of the collar (at the front) so they would attach to my body suit.

If you own a cat, you probably understand my pain. I filmed this vine a while ago while working on a cosplay project and it basically summarizes my entire life’s struggle. The collar is detachable which makes getting in and out of the outfit a lot easier, and also hides a portion of the back seam.

Here’s the suit so far. As I mentioned before, the white bodysuit was from my previous sailor scout costumes, and the black skirt is a simple circle skirt design. I also altered the white suit a bit so it would be a bit more fitted, since the fabric stretched out.
The bow is from my Sailor Mars cosplay – the colours were similar enough so I decided to use it! 😀

Pluto Boots

Found these suede boots at a thrift store! They fit really well and the heel isn’t too tall, which means I can actually walk around in them! (Wearing tall heels is super uncomfortable for me because I never wear them / not used to the feeling.) I was really debating between these and another hair with a higher heel though, because generally higher heels photograph better… Just look at my Jupes photos! Those were 3 or 4 inches I think, and hell to walk in….
The boots themselves have a really nice pointed toe, and side profile. However, they were much too baggy! As a comparison, I sewed the left one much tighter so it would be fitted to my leg, and not slouch as  much.
I had to make the fronts pointed because that’s the style of most Sailor boots. The shape looks a bit wonky but I’m buying some white bias tape fabric to sew along the edge so it’ll be much smoother and pointier!
My next progress posts will cover wig styling, accessories, and the staff. This post was originally posted on my Patreon account! I post a lot of cosplay progress on there (much of which is exclusive to Patrons.) I host monthly livestreams and polls deciding on my next video topic, cosplay, and tutorials! I an unable to monetize many of my videos due to copyright so I really appreciate all of your support.
Let me know if you have any questions! 🙂 Thanks again!

Cosplay Tutorial: Kashima from Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun

Hello everyone!

This post was originally posted on my Patreon account! I post a lot of cosplay progress on there (much of which is exclusive to Patrons.)

I recently finished up a cosplay that I have been putting off for about a year… Kashima from Gekkan Shoujo! A quick spur of the moment costume inspired by all the cosplay progress my friends have been posting on social media. (Katsucon is coming up next week and I won’t be attending, but that doesn’t mean I can’t join in on the cosplay fun!)
Kashima is a very fun, goofy character. She’s very tall and tomboyish, and charms all of the female students. There’a fun little youtube video showing some clips of her here! Overall Gekkan Shoujo is a fantastic series 🙂
I’ll be breaking down the elements of the costume for you. It’s a simple and comfortable cosplay to wear. I’ve never done a tomboyish character before as I absolutely love cosplaying girly characters with long hair!

The Makeup

Makeup can really transform your look, especially when you want to look like a 2D anime character! The first picture shows my regular makeup, and the second and third show how circle lenses, stronger  winged eyeliner, contouring on the cheekbones and nose, and highlighting, can really change the way your face photographs. You have to over emphasize your features a bit for the camera. I think if I was at a convention, I would have added some blue eyeshadow or paint to my eyebrows in order to match Kashima’s dark blue hair.
I’m wearing the Puffy 3-tone circle lenses (15mm) in green. I did a review on my blog which you can read here – these are the same lenses I wore for Jupiter. I’ve got to throw them out soon so I thought they would be good for one last test run 🙂

The Selfies…

All I have to show you at the moment are mirror selfies as I don’t have any shoots or conventions coming up until Anime North, but I tried to show a few different angles so you can see the costume properly.

The Costume

This was a fairly easy outfit to put together. Most of the items were owned or thrifted!
Her outfit is composed of a boxy V neck uniform sweater, a white dress shirt, and a red tie. I couldn’t find a deep V neck sweater anywhere! I had to modify a rounded collar sweater to achieve this look. The school emblem is made from felt.
Moment of appreciation for the tie – IT WAS SO HARD FINDING A PLAIN DEEP RED TIE. I honestly didn’t think it was going to be THIS hard, but all the red ties in thrift stores had some weird patterns on them. Finally found them and pretty much sank to my knees, THANK U GODS OF COSPLAY.

This wig is from lightinthebox! A short dark blue / navy coloured wig. It looks long in the stock photo but appeared shorter on me because I have a massive head, haha.

Kashima tends to lean more towards the male uniform, but still wears a long skirt. I made a basic pleated skirt, super quick and easy for me now because I’ve cosplayed so many school uniforms! This is the tutorial I used when I was first learning how to sew pleated skirts.
I’ve used these shoes for many of my school uniform cosplays. These ones are brown leather shoes from Naturalizer, picked up from the thrift store. They don’t have a heel and are super comfortable to walk in! I have another pair of brown uniform shoes with heel that I use for photographs because heels just look better. 🙂
And finally, a few Kashima polaroids! I’ll be doing a giveaway for them later, but that’ll be a future post.

I’m very close to my next milestone, which includes a weekly anime review series!
Once again, thank you for helping me complete another cosplay!

Making Pleated Skirts for Cosplay | Tutorial

Heya lovelies!

I love making pleated skirts. They’re the one thing that I actually know how to sew, and they are really simple to make! Most anime school uniforms include a pleated skirt of some sort, and I can usually pump one out in a few hours.

I recently made some for my Erina cosplay from Shokugeki no Soma… or food wars! #bestanime2015 I also made mle’s skirt.

I think they turned out alright considering we:
1. Didn’t have an iron before leaving for Fan Expo, meaning we couldn’t smooth our the pleats.
2. Tried to use a straightener and ended up burning some of the ribbon
3. Changed at the convention, meaning the skirts were packed up in our bags

Oh well. I think they turned out alright. However, some anime school uniform designs have pleated skirts that come in different patterns. These fabric patterns are either impossible to find, or are ones you have to order online! If you event is coming up and you want to be able to make a skirt with easy to find materials and don’t want to pay for risky shipping from China, this tutorial is for you!

How to make a tartan/plaid pleated skirt for cosplay!

You will need some fabric and some ribbon of your choice. The ribbon should be in the colour that you want to make your plaid design!

Get your sewing slave to cut the fabric into the length that you want. 2 meters cut in half was enough for both of our skirts. I would have liked to use more fabric for sharper pleats but there was only 2m left in the color that I wanted 🙁

Lay out your horizontal strips. Pin them into place and then sew them down! Make sure that the thread doesn’t pucker or else you’ll have weird crinkling that you’ll have to iron out later…

Lay down your vertical strips. For the Shokugeki design, we sewed a white thin strip of ribbon down the middle of the black strip. Hem and fold up the bottom of the fabric where the skirt end will be so it looks cleaner!

Begin folding your pleats to the desired size. This can take some trial and error to get the correct sized pleats that you want. I believe ours were 3.5 inches wide. I would have made them smaller for more defined pleats but we ran out of fabric… Make sure you have more if you want a sharper pleat!

When you are happy with their size, iron them down! Make sure the iron is on a lower setting or else it may melt the ribbon. I highly recommend using a starch spray to keep your pleats crisp and pretty!

Sew down the pleats along the top. Fold the told of the skirt in again to make a waistband. Sew the two ends of the skirt together, and make sure pleats match up so it looks seamless.

I packed away my skirt and then remembered that I had forgotten to take pics for this tutorial, so excuse the wrinkliness!

This is the front of the skirt. Make sure when you iron that you’re on a lower temperature. If you look along the fourth write ribbon from the left, 2 black ribbons down, you’ll see a part of the ribbon is missing. This is because the ribbon stuck to our iron, which was too hot! A little mistake, luckily not too noticeable when worn.

We used velcro at the back to keep our skirts closed. I like using velcro for cosplay because it’s easier to put on, and change in and out of. It’s also more beginner friendly than installing a zipper!

This is the back of the skirt, As you can see, we matched up the pleats with the velcroed back so it blends in nicely! Especially when the velcro back is covered by the uniform jacket.

I hope this tutorial was helpful! If you use this tutorial, make sure to mention me on social media so I can see your results. (@sachietv on twitter and instagram!)  Best of luck with your cosplays!

A Week in Los Angeles | Anime Expo 2015, Porter Robinson, and The Fire

Anime Expo 2015

It is time…..for the Great Anime Expo Update of 2015! During the 1st – 8th of July, I flew from Toronto to Los Angeles for North America’s largest anime convention – Anime Expo! Anime Expo is my all time favourite convention – the level of cosplay is higher, the convention halls are bigger, and events are more grand than any other convention I’ve been to!

Hello lovelies!

I haven’t hosted a giveaway in a while. I’ve recently hit a few milestones – 62k on youtube, 14k on Instagram, and I’m almost at 13k on twitter… Many people know me for my Sailor Jupiter cosplay, so this seems appropriate haha. I actually own this figurine and have an extra! So I decided to give away a Sailor Jupiter figurine to one lucky winner!

Let’s take a look at it, shall we?

This is seriously one of the prettiest figures ever. Sailor Jupiter was/is my favourite sailor scout growing up – she was kind, strong, pretty, and super tall! I always felt like I could relate most to her. We’re both amazon ladies. We both like cooking, and sports. I was a bit of a tomboy growing up, so I could identify with her. I always wore my hair in a high ponytail, ~jupiter~ style. My nostalgia rekindled with the Sailor Moon Crystal reboot. I modified the bodysuit from my Sailor Mars cosplay into Jupiter for Katsucon!

UGHHHH SHES SO PRETTYYYY!!! It’s a gorgeous figurine featuring Jupe’s signature crazy long legs, flowy ponytail, and transformation pose. Jupiter is everything that I want to be in life!! I’LL NEVER STOP LOVING HER. I’ll probably still be cosplaying her at the age of 80. That’ll be a sight!

SO… can you get your hands on this gem?

Just fill out the rafflecopter widget below!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

This giveaway ends on July 31st, so you have a little over two weeks! It is an international giveaway! The photos above feature my own figurine, the actual giveaway figurine is in the sealed box. There are lots of ways to get entries! I will post the winner on the 31st, and send them an email. If you want, I’ll even sign the figure! Haha!

Best of luck, fellow moonies!

Syndra (League of Legends) Completed Cosplay

Hiya lovelies!!

Here are pictures of my “completed” Syndra cosplay. Completed in quotations because I didn’t actually finish the skirt, I didn’t have time so I just cut a few pieces of black fabric and tucked them into my shorts haha. Sssh don’t tell anyone!!

Check out my other Syndra posts:
(links will be updated when all of the posts have been published)
I’ll be completing them for the next con that I wear Syndra to! 🙂

Here are pictures of my completed cosplay! Starting off with the makeup and circle lenses. Armor and outfits can look cool, but you can’t forget about your face!

All of my armor placed together!

Now, here are some closeup shots. I took all of these photos after I returned from Anime Expo aka fresh out of my suitcase, so please keep that in mind if you see any ripping/chipped/fading parts!

The bracers look quite black in these photos, but they’re mostly dark purple and gold with silver detailing. Lots of weathering and drybrushing with dark paints to get the worn look.

Loops on the inside of my costume that attached to the main body armor piece through ribbons and hooks.

Back and fromnt of my helmet. You can see the worbla/craft foam pieces on the front and sides but I’m planning to smooth them all out for the next convention! The ear pieces are made from craft foam and hotglued onto the sides of the helmet.

I bought my silver ponytail wig from It was actually a twin-tail wig but I dissected one of the ponytails to create the two little long bits that hang out of the front part of her hair.

I am wearing the Vassen Bambi Queen Violet circle lenses that I got from Pinky Paradise. You can get them here! They are “natural” purple lenses (not super bright) that have a strong black outer ring and fade to yellow in the middle! I’ll be doing a full circle lens post on all of the lenses I used at Anime Expo.

Selfie taken on the way to the convention! I’m not crying haha! I had just put my lenses in + some eyedrops 😉
I chose to do a strong winged eye, and thick dark eyeliner on the lower waterline. I really contoured my face to make it look more angular. I gave myself strong cheek contour/highlighting, contoured my nose to look more defined. Wore a sheer red lip balm. Didn’t colour my eyebrows but filled them in with light brown powder. Syndra’s outfit was mostly black and the helmet/wig were covering my eyebrows so I wasn’t super concerned.

Jom chillin in my armor! Peipa-chan had to pretty much glue my into my armor because I didn’t have time to make proper straps with velcro haha! At the end of the day I had to cut myself out of my costume ;v;

Was lucky enough to participate in Sky William’s newest video! We pretty much just had to catwalk and put on our cosplay which they edited together and made into a timelapse. These cosplayers are so talented so I was honoured to be able to film alongside them! :0

Here’s the video! Ahh It’s so cool! 😀

With the beautiful Domineau as Ironscale Shyvana on the right. On the left, met a super cool Graves cosplayer at Sky William’s video shoot! His gun looked SO LEGIITTT and it was super light as well!!

Haha too bad I never got to play on URF mode, I think that was when I was at the Gathering? Or exams? I remember there was a certain reason why I couldn’t do it and I hope they bring it back!
I was also featured in MLZ Studio’s League of Legends showcase video! It was my first time seeing him again in 2 years (last time was Otakon) and it was so much fun to film! Luckily, we ran into a Super Minion cosplayer who agreed to be thrown by me for my Syndra E ;D

Thanks for reading! Let me know if you have any questions about how it was made or painted. I’ll try my best to answer them asap!

Syndra (League of Legends) Helmet and Claw Progress

Hiya lovelies! This is part three of my Syndra cosplay tutorial. You may want to check out these posts first if you haven’t already!

Check out my other Syndra posts:
(links will be updated when all of the posts have been published)

Another part of Syndra’s character design that proved to be quite challenging. The Syndra from MCM Expo made her helmet out of EVA foam! I hadn’t even thought of that, and found her progress pics after I started making mine (haha too late!) Instead, I decided to use the expanding foam method.
This is one of the only parts of my armor that I am a little bit unsatisfied with, as I started this helmet two days before I was supposed to leave. So in result, it is a little bit messy. Still turned out alright though!!
I used a can of “Great Stuff” expanding foam for gaps and cracks. It’s comes in a can with a small plastic spout.

Made the base shape out of cardboard! Then I covered it in expanding foam and let it cure (which the bottle says to leave for about 8 hours). It foams up when first applied but don’t put on too much at first!

The foam expands a lot when it is dried. I recommend putting on a coat and letting it cure, then cutting it into the shape you want and cutting again. This will be easier than trying to cut through a giant foamy monster! Also wear gloves since the foam is made out of weird chemicals and will irritate your skin. I forgot to put them on the first time and my arms got all itchy :<

Carved a hollow part in the middle where the helm would fit over my forehead. I also made a base helm/band that the “horns” would attach to! I made this band out of craft foam and worbla. It was curved so it fit right over my head.

Important!! If you are ever making a cosplay helmet, make sure it fits to your head + wig! If you fit it to your head like normal, it will be too small when you fit it over your wig!

Covered my helm with painters tape. Would have used paper mache but I was running out of time. The helmet is massive on my head but fits perfectly with the wig on! It had a tendency to tip forwards because I didn’t have time to attach clips at the back so it fit more snugly to my head.

Used small strips of worbla and wrapped them around the horns. This gave a more demonic look I think, because they looked like actual horns rather than part of a helmet. It looked bumpy at first but I heated the worbla and used a knife to press down the edges so they melted flat.

Didn’t have time to sand it either, so I tried melting and pressing down the edges as flat as they would go and then used a spray gesso to prime my helmet.

I don’t have photos of the painting process because it was done at 1am the night before I wore Syndra, but I used a glue gun for the raised parts at the front of her helmet. I melted together some worbla scraps to make the main shape of her helmet jewel/eye thing. Primed with spray gesso, and painted with acrylic paint! I forgot about the little flap things at the very top of the helmet so I’ll add those next time.

Again, I would have liked to have better primed/ varnished this helmet if I had the time, but I’ll leave that for touchups for the next convention.

Here is the base for my Syndra claws! I first cut a piece of craft foam that was the width and length of my finger. This would make sure my fingers fit into my claws!  I then heated some Worbla and made little triangular prism shapes with the foam at the bottom of my finger, and made the edges pointed.
Primed with gesso and painted a solid black with acrylic paint!!
I found that when I actually wore these claws, they stayed on fine but the coloring on the craft foam inside stained my fingers! So I had pink/purple fingertips whenever I took my hands out haha 😀
Next post will show you all of the completed pieces! Hope this was helpful.
As always, leave any questions in the comments below and I’ll try my best to answer them!

Syndra (League of Legends) Creating and Painting Body Armor

Hello lovelies! This is a continuation of my Syndra – League of Legends cosplay progress series. We are now on part two – creating the body armor and priming/painting the armor pieces!
Check out my other Syndra posts:
(links will be updated when all of the posts have been published)

Body Armor

I’ve seen a few different interpretations of Syndra’s top, and most people seem to make it out of fabric. I chose to do an armored top because
1. I suck at sewing
2. I’ve made craft foam armor in the past so I have a bit more experience
3. Armor looks more badass!!
Belted the foam mat to my body and sketched out the basic design! Happy helped out, hahaha.

Cut out the boob hole/ basic shape. Transferred the design to Worbla, using the same fold-over technique as the bracers/pauldrons.

Heated the smooth glue side of the worbla with my heat gun and pressed the foam over top so they attached! Heated the foam/worbla up again and belted it to my body until it cooled so it would form and curve to the shape of my body.

This method took a while, but I don’t have a dress form/mannequin or anyone to help me… so this would be the poor loner cosplayer’s method haha! ;_;

The boob hole ended up being too big so I added some more craft foam to the middle to make it smaller and covered that up with worbla strips. Added shoulder straps and the main triangle part at the top of the boob opening.

Added the foam designs and raised edges. Instead of just a plain strip, I like to add a really thin long strip along the very edge or alongside. This adds interest and makes the design look more detailed! I often like to add my own interpretation on designs if I think it’ll help the armor stand out in photos.

All of the base pieces together! In this photo, I added the raised ring to the bracers. I heated up some of my scrab worbla, rolled it into a sausage and pinched the edge so it was pointy. Then I heated it and applied it to the bottom.

The rolled up worbla pretty much solidified the shape of the bracers though, so the bottom was the exact shape of my wrist (and I’ve got super tiny wrists). I had to squeeze my hand through in order to get the bracers on, which left quite a few scratch marks 🙁 I told everyone they were from happy because “squeezing hands through cosplay armor” sounds super weird, haha.

Trying everything on for the first time!! It fit well, thank god. I was a bit worried that the pauldrons would be too big or wouldn’t attach properly but everything stayed put.

Using the same method as the top, I crafted the back and added the raised designs. Also added the top belted part to the top armor using craft foam and worbla!

This is what it looks like on the inside! The armor connected at the top shoulder parts and the side parts.
The way the armor is attached is by:
1. Opening neck area and fitting it to body
2. Getting friend to belt you in, trapping you in the armor for the rest of the day

Painting Armor Pieces

The way that you paint a piece of cosplay armor can really affect how it will appear and how well it well it will photograph. I like to use a method that is used by cosplay armor goddess Kamui Cosplay, called “3D painting”. Painting highlights and shadows onto a piece helps it pop.

Used white acrylic gesso and mixed in some black so it became gray. Coated the armor and worbla. I used approximately 3 coats until everything was smooth.

I spraypainted a black base overtop the gesso! I meant to choose gloss or satin finish spraypaint but picked up flat by accident 🙁 But that was fine since it was just a base colour.

Painting process: (Did a lot of the painting last minute so didn’t get many pictures)
1. Base color
2. Make a gradient of warm brown fading down into Syndra’s signature purple. Did a few layers so that the colours stood out
3. Add shadows to the edges/corners using black/dark brown paint, and highlights to the middle using the base colour + white or silver. Then dabbed a sheer layer of gold paint over top to create a sheen.
4. Add metallics (gold/silver) to the raised parts.
5. Shade small shadows in on the edges, and down the middle of the metallic parts to look more 3D
6. Dry brush mixed dark gold (black + gold + dark brown) paint all over to create a bronzed, worn look.

I didn’t have time to do this in time for the convention, but I would have gone over the top of my armor with Modge Podge Gloss (which I bought but didn’t use.) I’ll have to do this for next time!

The next post will discuss how I made Syndra’s helmet and claws!

Let me know if you have any questions, I’ll try to answer them as soon as possible.

Syndra (League of Legends) Bracers and Shoulder Pauldrons

Hi lovelies!

It’s been a while since I’ve done a proper cosplay post. I mostly save all my cosplay stuff for my Geek and Sundry vlog show but some of my viewers prefer written, photographic progress posts because they’re easier to follow than videos.

Also apologies for the image quality, as most progress photos were taken with my iPhone.

I recently cosplayed Syndra from League of Legends. After cosplaying Bloodmoon Akali from League (which turned out horribly because I didn’t have any materials or space to work on it, student halls etc.), I really wanted to make something big. I’ve been out of the North American cosplay scene for almost a year, so I wanted to come back with a bang! Syndra seemed like the perfect outfit – complex yet simple, cool design, and eye- catching. Plus she’s really fun to play 😀

This was how my cosplay turned out for Anime Expo. Not completely finished, but pretty good for working nonstop for 8 days!

I saw this amazing Syndra at MCM Expo in London! I had thought about cosplaying Syndra, but this cosplayer’s interpretation was absolutely perfect and really inspired me. The entire set of armor was commissioned from Ae Ri who is a fantastic cosplayer. Go check out her stuff – she’s a god at making armor from EVA foam!

Anyway, I contacted this Syndra and she answered all my questions about construction, materials, etc. Some cosplayers can be quite secretive about how they make things, but she offered to help me with everything. I’m glad there are still talented and generous cosplayers in the community these days <3
Before I start with my progress photos, I’d like to thank my patrons over on Patreon! Without their help, I wouldn’t have been able to put Syndra together. All of my cosplay stuff comes from my own pocket with a little help from what I make from Youtube…not much at all. They helped me cover costs for materials, specifically Worbla! Thank you all so much <3

So without further ado, let’s go!

These posts are part of a series. Check out the other posts here!

I decided to cosplay the concept art version of Syndra rather than the in-game version. Whilst similar, I like the more purple/gold/brown colouring of Syndra’s armor as opposed to a solid black/dark purple. I also like the extra detail on her bracers and helmet instead of the simple in-game designs!

Armor – Materials

Camping foam mat, craft foam, paintbrushes, acrylic paint, glue, xacto knife, scissors. All from the dollar store. Heat gun is from Home Depot.
I also ordered two jumbo sheets of Worbla from It came to about $183 CAD I think (which is completely ridiculous in my opinion, but it’s a medium I’ve been meaning to try out.) Again, thank you so much to my Patrons for helping me out. I will be doing a video on my Geek and Sundry cosplay vlog showing you how it works!
For reference, I’m almost 5’10” without shoes haha!! Worbla came in this large tube wrapped in cardboard and apparently took about 3 days to arrive from the supplier to where I live (Toronto!)
Worbla is a very forgiving material – it’s a sheet with the texture of cardboard. There are two sides – a rough side and a smooth side that is coated in glue. It can be cut with scissors and is attached by heating the edges and pressing them against each other. Once attached, the worbla will not seperate unless heat is applied. It hardens to a plastic-like texture when cooled and will not change shape.
It is typically doubled up or sandwiched over a sheet of craft foam for support to better hold its shape.

–Arm Bracers–

Made a rough pattern for the bracers with paper and transferred to foam. Cut a slightly larger version of the same shape on worbla. Using the heat gun, I heated the shiny/glue side of the worbla and placed the foam over top. I folded the edges over.
I know many cosplayers say to use the “sandwich” method aka sandwiching a thin piece of craft foam between two pieces of worbla, but it’s unnecessary in my opinion. This means double the amount of worbla is being used, and worbla isn’t cheap! Instead I used thicker foam and just folded over the edges.

This is what it looks like on the other side, and then curled inwards. I heated the back and placed the worbla over my arm and held it there until it cooled. The worbla held its shape and didn’t bend.

Using small strips of craft foam, I covered the bracer following the designs of the concept art! It was kinda tricky because Happy kept jumping at my scissors. I used hot glue to attach the craft foam. Did this for both arms.

Shoulder Pauldrons

Cut out 8 comma shapes using the same fold-over technique as the bracers! Each pauldrol has 4 comma shapes that make up her shoulder design – two on top and two below. When they cooled, I held the round part of the comma shape over a styrofoam ball so it was kinda round, since these parts need to fit over my shoulders.

Everything heather together. This is what they look on both the inside and outside. I didn’t want to put any worbla on the inside because worbla has a rough texture. Craft foam feels a little softer on the shoulders, especially if worn at a convention for several hours.

It is important to keep trying them on to make sure that they fit! The first time I tried on my pauldrons, they were too big and weren’t pointed upwards enough so I had to reshape them!

I attached little rings on the inside of my pauldrons – three in each pauldron. One on the top, and two at the sides. These will be used to attach the pauldrons to corresponding rings on the inside of the main body armor!

Final craft foam details hotglued onto the tops of bracers and pauldrons! I found small details looked better with craft foam instead of worbla since the foam looks smoother. For the bottom of my bracers, I took my worbla scraps and heated/rolled them into a sausage shape. I heated it to the bottom and then pressed them on so they adhered. Then I pinched the middle  to create the angled edge.

The next post will cover the body armor and priming/painting!

the gathering 2014

Hi lovelies!

If you’ve been following me on my other social networks, you’ll have seen that over the past two weeks, I’ve been posting about The Gathering 2014 nonstop! In an effort to revive my blog,  here’s my Gathering experience masterpost, haha!!

If you don’t know what The Gathering is, check out my video on GeekandSundry Vlogs! :}

Basically, The Gathering is a huge LAN party held in Hamar, Norway. It’s filmed in the giant viking ship olympic stadium (which is named the Vikingskipet because it looks like an overturned viking ship!) Thousands of people flood into the ship, bringing their computer supplies and shelf equipment for 4 days of nonstop gaming fun! It was my first LAN event, and it was even more exciting because The Gathering had invited myself, Scott, Amy, and our producer Jenni, to host live shows!

Also, apologies for the quality! Pics were shot on my iPhone.

Flew with Norwegian airlines from Gatwick in London. Norwegian is awesome, such a pleasant flight. They even had free wifi! Definitely helped the 2.5 hour flight go by very quickly. I’m super fortunate as this trip was my third trip down to Norway. (First time for planning meetings, second time to film promos for the event.) Ya can’t keep my outta Norway!~ haha.

Walking into the ship and seeing this for the first time was definitely super exciting!! So many people! And so many cool shelves set up!

Here’s my walk-around vlog for the weekend! I tried to vlog as often as I could during the weekend, so much to see and do!

One of the cool events at the Gathering is that on the first day, after opening ceremonies, the lights are shut off revealing a dark ship filled with thousands of computer monitor lights! This is the magic button that Scott pushed to turn off the lights. DO I PRESS IT?? (You can’t see a giant red button and not push it!! ;D)

It looked incredible at night! You can kinda see some of the games that people are playing… Majority of people were playing Minecraft, League of Legends, and Counterstrike. Dubstep blasting 24/7.

As I previously mentioned, Amy and I did a talk show during The Gathering! We had a half hour show at 5PM every day, talking about the days events and highlights, as well as interviewing some guests and staff. I’ve never done live presenting on a talk show before so it was a new experience! I was really nervous about the studio headsets because we had our producer (Jenni), and the director (Kasper) talking into our ear, giving us countdowns, timing cues, and people giving us topics to bring up. Scary at first, but after the first livestream I found myself becoming more comfortable in front of the camera. We just derped around and chilled with the guests 8)

Getting ready for the show! We dressed up in kigurumis which was really fun! I wore my Totoro one, which is too short for me hahah…. Oh well 😀

Jenni was sitting outside the Vikingskipet in a big media truck… She could see us on the cameras, and was sitting here giving us instructions during our show!

Scott had a late night talk show at 1:30AM. For one of his segments, he and Jenni had a nerf gun fight. Of course, we had to join in on the fun! Here we are as Felicia’s Angels. 😉

ON THE SECOND NIGHT, LEMAITRE DID A SURPRISE APPEARANCE. I PRETTY MUCH SCREAMED. I love Lemaitre, only recently got into them!! I thought they were french (because of their name), but apparently they were Norwegian! a;skfldjdklgdfkg so excited during their set, a little bit upset because the crowd really sucked haha. Lemaitre is indie electronic group, some of their music isn’t really suited for dancing, so a lot of people just stood there…. I was having my own little dance party though 😀

Got my crew sweater! They only had large sizes left when I got mine, so it’s huge!! Super comfortable though, I like wearing it when I’m lounging around my rooms in the evening. ~moe thugz 4 lyfe~

I also hosted the cosplay awards on the Friday with a Norwegian TV host, Kim-Daniel! He was super fun, great at hyping up crowds. So many people turned up, it was insane. There were so many fantastic cosplayers! Apparently there was a huge amount of people watching on the livestream as well.

Cameras on the main stage were really big! After a days work, eating at the crew house was great. Had bbq burgers which were amazing. Such lovely weather as well, bright and sunny.

A lovely woman from the Information:Games desk called Dawn, gave Amy and I a huge back of Norwegian candies!! I made a video tasting them 😀

After everyone left on the Sunday! So much garbage omg it was insane… People also left computer parts, food, and chairs/furniture!! However, Sunday evening was also time for the crew party! Unfortunately Amy and Jenni had to leave early to catch their flight back to Los Angeles, so Scott and I had to party extra hard on behalf of them. 🙂

Me being a derp + Scott, Kasper the gorilla director man, and myself! 😀

All in all, The Gathering was a huge success! We didn’t really get to game or participate in the games, but we had a ton of fun hosting events and meeting our Norwegian viewers! If you’re thinking about attending the Gathering, you definitely should. There are so many concerts, events, contests and lectures/seminars to attend.

Thank you to KANDU, and The Gathering for inviting us. We really had such a fantastic time. Hopefully we’ll be able to attend again next year! :}

Wow, another blog post?
Yup, I kinda want to try blogging every 2 days now! To make up for all the blog posts I should have been writing before. So on every odd numbered day in August, I’ll do a blog post! 😀

Also changed my layout a bit, what do you think? Less monochrome now!

Also apologizing in advance, all of these photos are from Instagram! I didn’t bring my T3i with me on this trip because it was way to heavy and I didn’t have room in my luggage. :< Vlog camera takes poor quality photos, so these will have to suffice~

Now continuing with the July recaps, I only had a week to rest + get my second cosplay ready for my next con…. San Diego Comic Con! Yessir, back to LA! (Honestly I’ve done more travelling this summer than I have within the past 5 years, haha) Geek and Sundry asked me if I’d like to go to SDCC as well, which of course resulted in more happy dances and rolling around on the floor/foaming at the mouth with excitement.

Day 0~

Flew from Toronto Pearson International to LAX, then took a tiny express plane to sunny San Diego! Arrived on the Wednesday, giving us a day of rest before we had to leave for the con. Also met Katie / Beautyarmory from the G&S vlog channel for the first time! She does awesome makeup tutorials! I was so excited, Canadians unite~ (She’s from Vancouver, on the other side of the country.)

Photo – beautyarmory
I was trying to figure out what was in my mouth when I was looking at this photo. Lollipop? Pen? Then I realized it was a glue stick…hahah orz…

Between that time, got my sniper (TF2) cosplay ready! Paul made my Sydney Sleeper which turned out beautifully~ I was quite nervous because I’ve never brought props across the border, let alone a giant rifle lol… Had to cut it up and disassemble it in order for it to fit ;_;

Made a little hat for one of my koala toys = Koala Compact! Gotta have a melee too – progress shot of the Bushwacka. (Made from a Dollarama foam pirate sword.)

Based my cosplay off this fanart!

Day 1!

Arrived SDCC was more than I ever imagined. First off, it’s MASSIVE. Probably 5 times the size of Fan Expo. Absolutely huge. Crazy too, so many people and promotional/PR events for movies and TV/comic series.

Only saw one Medic cosplayer though. 🙁 I thought there would’ve been TF2ers everywhere!

Had some footage in my vlog which shows the crazyness!!

Went to the Geek and Sundry space! They rented out this lounge/bar at Joltin’ Joes, just outside the convention centre! The whole second floor was dedicated to tabletop games, panels, and exclusive game demos.

Katie and I being ~gamer gurlz~ and trying out new games! Experiencing bad hat hair because of my Sniper hat 🙁
Also met up with Felicia Day! She’s one of the heads of Geek and Sundry – her and Jenni (the producer) found my videos and asked me to be part of the Geek and Sundry vlogger project! Ahhh it’s so surreal. Katie was fixing Felica’s hair~ Felicia is super lovely, it was so fun getting to hang out with her! 😀
Did I mention that there was a photo booth? There was a photo booth. Met up with Becca and Neil again! It was lovely getting to see them again after Anime Expo! 😀
The day was really tiring, so we went back to change and get ready for the ~VIP party~. Katie and I left for the hotel first. When we got there (at about 3PM), we were told that our rooms weren’t ready. Although we were checking in after noon, it was understandable because of the sheer numbers descending on the hotel due to comiccon. So we decided to wait.
We waited and waited. In the mean time, I helped Katie put on her first pair of contacts! She bought these in the dealers room. Doesn’t she look amazing? Lizard eyes~
Anyway, Katie needed to get back to Joltin’ Joes because she needed to do Felicia’s makeup. After she left, I waited in the hotel for a room to free up. There was a waiting list, but most of the people in front of us had given up on waiting and just went back to the convention. Amy and Becca arrived (they were hotelling with us), and we waited it out together. After another hour, the lady at the front desk felt really bad for us and gave us a room upgrade. Instead of a room with two queen beds, we were given a room with a King bed, pullout couch, big bathroom, and balcony!
Got changed, and headed to the party! It was my first time going to a real VIP party, let alone a bar/lounge party. I’ve only been to a bar once with friends, but we didn’t stay long, and it wasn’t a super swanky type of deal either.
Immediately went to the photobooth.
I love this photo so much, we’re all having so much fun!
Bought that houndstooth print dress at Forever21… Got so many compliments on it! Yay!
There were lots of famous people at the party too which was kinda nervewracking… Of course, I didn’t know who most of them were because I don’t want many movies or TV shows. But, as pointed out to me by Katie, the Mythbuster guys were there, as well as Nathan Fillion (who was hanging out like 5 feet away from us), and Trevor Moore from The Whitest Kids You Know (who Katie went up and spoke to! Proud of her! ;D) Apparently the guys from Sons of Anarchy were there as well, along with John Barrowman. Didn’t see them though.
Also, Joey Graceffa, Meighan Camarena, Jimmy Wong, and Alex Carpenter were there! I saw them and wanted to go to speak to them but I was so nervous ;_; After I got some ~liquid courage~, I tried finding them but they had left. Super regretting not going up and saying hi!
Joey was actually the one who inspired me to start vlogging, so I was really sad for the rest of that weekend. v__v
The party was super fun! Went back to the hotel and totally crashed. Probably one of the most fun nights of my life. 😀
Day 2!
Gettin ready in Sniper. Super lucky with the pants! I was running around the day before I left trying to find brown skinny jeans… Found these dark brown skinnies in H&M for $15! Fate! 😀 Also the little hat fell off my Koala Compact, which made me very sad.
Katie was also cosplaying! She dressed up as Riese from a webseries called Kingdom Falling. She was wearing the actual outfit from the show! It was so well made. (Totally did a thorough inspection of if when she wasn’t looking haha :D)
As expected, the convention was a bit busier than Thursday. Lots more people, and a noticeable increase in cosplayers! I really commend SDCC for the ease of entrance, there were no long lines to get into the con!
Back at the convention centre. Finally spotted more TF2 cosplayers!! Stupid me forgot to put my sunglasses on. 🙁
Giant Ice King mountain at the Cartoon Network booth! I believe in this photo, the creators/artists of The Regular Show were doing signings. Also met up with Chanelle again! Oh my GODDD THIS GIRL IS THE PERFECT FIONA *fangirl scream/rolling on floor*
ALSO FOUND ANGELINA~ I love her videos! She’s from Ontario as well! Haha two Canadians meeting for the first time in San Diego. I was so happy I found her though, I really wanted to meet her! She actually knew who I was which was amazing, I was so surprised. I hope we can do a collab or something together in the future! ;0;
Found my halfu sista cosplaying TF2 scout! 😀 Met her for the first time at Anime Expo and she’s super cute! I’m sad that I didn’t get to see her fem! Demo cosplay though :< Next time!
Decided to take a break, went back to Joltin Joes.
Felicia doing an interview. Somehow overnight, blue streaks appeared in her hair! Magical~
Katie was setting up her supplies at the front of the lounge to do temporary tattoos with people!
After that, we had to go back to the hotel to prepare for…. party number two! Geek and Sundry community party! Much more casual than the VIP one, and really fun!
Party outfit! Tank top by 1% Talent, white jeans from Sirens. Wish I had brought accessories with me, something felt off!
This party was a lot more lively than the last one… The VIP one was more like a networking party. The community party sure was hoppin~ There were so many dance circles. And everybody knew how to swing dance. Kinda weird but very cool!
There was also this guy in a random Amish outfit… When “Livin in an Amish Paradise” by Weird Al Yankovic started playing, this guy ran to the middle of the dance floor and a huge circle formed around him. So funny!
After that fun night, we went back to the hotel. Didn’t get to crash right away because I had to film my vlog, which is why I look so exhausted haha. The night was super fun though! 😀
Day 3~~~~~
Saturday was the last day of the con for us, and Katie and I had flights that were leaving at 3PM that day. Woke up early that morning, got dressed, and brought our luggage down to the Jolt and Joes. Our first big event was the Geek and Sundry panel!

I knew lots of people were going to show up, mainly for Wil Wheaton and Felicia Day (I mean compared to them, I’m a nobody haha, but I was super excited to me on the panel anyway! :D) I think around 2000 people showed up.

Pre-panel group photo!
Obligatory photo against “the” background! Huge eyebags from all of the excitement that weekend haha~

When I was sitting at the front, I kept looking out into the crowd and tried visualizing the amount of followers I have laid out before me. I have almost 30,000 subscribers on my youtube page… So that would be 15 roomfuls. *brain explodes*

I had so much fun though! It was truly a crazy experience. I loved every second of it!

After the panel, Katie and I ran around the con one last time. Went back to Joltin’ Joes to get our luggage and say our goodbyes!

Byebye Felicia and Harrison! ;_; Hopefully I’ll be able to see you guys next year!
Sad to be leaving but super happy because we survived our first SDCC!
Flying back to Chicago O’Hare then Toronto Pearson. I was so afraid of missing my flight at Chicago because I only had 40 minutes to transfer. Due to storms in the area, we were delayed landing (apparently a mini tornado passed through the area! D:) I was so scared that I was going to miss my flight – I was seated at the back of a big plane, and I kept calling out the flight attendant to contact my connecting flight and tell them to hold it!! I actually sprinted through the airport because I only had 5 minutes and was totally convinced that I had missed my flight… I’ve never felt so stressed in my entire life.
Luckily, because of the storm, my connecting flight was also delayed!  ヽ(;▽;)ノ Felt like crying.
But yeah, that was my SDCC adventure! One of the best weekends in my entire life so far! Honestly, I can’t thank Geek and Sundry enough for getting me out there, it’s a total dream come true. ;__; I really hope I can go out again next year! Definitely gonna work on some more intense cosplays!
Such a long post… Thank you for reading! See you in two days! :}

Hello everyone~

The month of July has been insane so far. I’ve been busier than I’ve ever been in my entire life so far! But it’s awesome, I’m not going to complain or wish it was any other way. I don’t have many high res photos so you’ll have to do with some instagram photos, sorry!

(Wooo thanks G&S for choosing such a bad thumbnail 😛 Also fun fact: I filmed this vlog with a realllly high fever, I felt like I was dying on the inside haha! )

Went to Anime Expo in LA for the first time!!

Ahhhh this was the start of an absolutely insane month!! Geek and Sundry asked me if I’d like to go to Anime Expo, and of course I said yes! (Actually I replied to the email quite calmly but then proceeded to fall off my chair and foam at the mouth, y’know.) I was so happy to actually go and attend my dream convention, and go to LA for the first time!

I rushed rly hard to finish my Sumia from Fire Emblem, didn’t finish all of it though and ended up just packing my materials to finish it at the hotel.

Here’s some of the cosplay progress that I managed to record!
I drove with Genie to Buffalo International Airport on the 3rd of July. We flew out of Buffalo because it’s only about a 2 hour drive from us, and flying out of the US is a few hundred dollars cheaper than flying out of Toronto’s Pearson International. We were supposed to fly Buffalo > Atlanta -> LA
Genie and I found a dancing titan in the airport!

Basically, there was a really big thunderstorm in Atlanta meaning all outgoing flights were suspended. The next flight to LA was 6AM the next morning…so we got trapped in Buffalo airport for 14 hours. That was not fun, probably the most boring 14 hours of my life.

Luckily Genie and I had each others company so we just talked and played a lot of Animal Crossing. At 6AM on the Thursday, we flew from Buffalo to Chicago Midway, and then to Los Angeles.

Flying over! I love flying, above the clouds reminds me of a dreamscape!
Skymall catalogue has some pretty weird stuff…
(I always freak out when I see palm trees haha… I love them! To me, palm trees = paradise~)
It was pretty surreal getting to see the con centre for the first time with my own eyes.. I remember marvelling over the photos that my friends would post, thinking about how pretty the convention centre looked!!

Sexy TF2 ladies! I wish I had sniper ready so I could’ve taken some red team photos with them!!

Amazing Cherche cosplay! The other guy had a rly impressive outfit as well, not sure which character he’s doing though.

Vy being a cutie~
Giant titan in the dealers room! Oh no!

Anime Expo was absolutely insane. It’s so beautiful there. The level of cosplay was crazy, so many talented cosplayers there. As soon as I got to the hotel, I spent 2 hours finishing up my Sumia cosplay (armor got squished in my suitcase waah ;_;) Finally got to the con at around 2:30PM. Ran around the dealers room, met up with LA friends for the first time, helped host the Crunchyroll livestream, interviewed by Funimation and appeared on their livestream… Went back to hotel, changed, ran around Little Tokyo, ate delicious (but spicy) hotpot, drove around LA, went back to the hotel and then crashed. It’s hard running around such an exciting con on only 5 hours of sleep across 2 days ;_;

Little Tokyo sweets haul~

Back at the hotel – I had a room in the Millenium Biltmore. It was a little bit of a drive to the con, but there was a free shuttle right outside that took us straight to the con. But this hotel, man. So beautiful.

Check out that ceiling!

I had a room to myself, TO MYSELF~~~ I’ve never had a room all to myself…at my dream con…aughghgh!! I actually screamed and danced around the room, and cried actual happy tears. I actually went hysterical from happiness, but that’s probably because I was only running on about 5 hours of sleep over 48 hours.

The room was pretty big – had a desk, king size bed, chair and sitting table, and a nicely sized bathroom.

That night when I got back, I changed, showered, and actually died when I hit the covers. I’ve never fallen asleep so fast. The bed was so soft too, everything felt so nice!! Best sleep ever!!

Next day Domics, LilyPichu and I had our little meetup/gathering! So many people turned up, it was awesome!

This awesome dude, Tako, actually MC’d our meetup for us because Dom and I were being awkward haha and didn’t know how to entertain that large group of people… Thank you, you are a lifesaver aah~~~

Met Chanelle for the first time! She’s so cute omg! She’s an actress on the Cartoon Network show, The Incredible Crew. But oh man she’s so pretty and charismatic! So happy I actually got to meet her!

With cutie Vy again~

With Domz~ Canadians unite!

My flight actually left on that day at 3PM, so I could only run around the con once last time before rushing back to hotel and catching my flight.

 Beautiful skies!
Goodbye LA! (Two weeks later, I was back in LA to transfer flights to San Diego :D)
Landed in Las Vegas airport to transfer flights! Saw this terrifying thing there.

Even though it was only for a day and a half, being at AX was a dream come true. Ahh! So happy that Geek and Sundry gave me that opportunity~

I’ll post about San Diego Comic Con in a few days! Thanks for reading! 😀

~The Youtube Panel~ A Heartwarming Story of 3 Young Youtubers

OH MY GOD LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THIS YOUTUBE PANEL. Oh lord. It needs a post of its own.

First, some ~background info~. I had been talking to Dom and Daryl about hosting a Youtube panel at Anime North this year. We’re all very involved with the Youtube community, not to mention that our subscribers wanted a place to meet us… So, we thought what better than to host a panel focusing on Youtube – presenting the opportunity to meet other youtubers, discuss content creation, and meet new friends!

(to make up for my lack of photos, i’m going to draw pictures :D)

Our panel was rejected, with the reasoning that it was not associated directly to anime, and therefore was irrelevant. One of Dom’s followers had connections and was talking directly to the panel’s coordinator to help us get it approved. We then got an email telling us that we could have our panel, but it would be merged as a part of the Reddit panel – kinda like a ‘social media panel’. We figured we’d settle with that, until we found out the panel was going to be held at 10pm on the Friday.

Our followers are primarily between the ages of 13-20… The majority of which would not be able to attend such a late time. So we dropped out of the Reddit panel and hoped that things would work out.

We got another email a few weeks later notifying us that our Youtube panel had been approved! But it was to be held at….. midnight….on the friday.

Ok, I know not everyone can get the time slot that they want, but midnight on Friday? Our G-rated panel following right after a “Sex and the Single Otaku (18+)” panel? SERIOUSLY??

We emailed back asking for a new time slot. We appealed saying our audience couldn’t really make it at that time. We tried reaching out to the general programming exec. No replies. So we were kinda pissed off. But we figured we’d make the best of it. We were expecting 10, maybe 20 people to show up. So we just said it’d become a crack panel and we’d joke around and have a dance party or something. No big deal!

Basically, the room that our panel was assigned to was the “Halton Room” in the Doubletree Hotel. The room is small, around the size of a classroom. Seats maybe 30 or so people. The hallway was located along a hallwall of rooms.

Ringo, Genie and I arrive at the hotel, dressed up in our Kigurumis. When we get there, we were quite surprised at the long line of people waiting at the panel rooms! I walked over to the Halton room, and it was really crowded. Maybe 50 or so people were in line! Finally met Natsumi, Lily, and Cody! They were super nice. Met up with Dom and Daryl. We all agreed that the turnout was pretty big, awesome news! As soon as the previous panel let out, Daryl, Dom and I were led into the room. Shortly after, we were pulled out by one of the panel coordinators.

“What’s going on?” I asked.
“We’re moving you to a bigger room (the Mississauga Room)”
“Why? Is our room too small?”
The panel lady looks at me like I’m stupid. She pointed to the really long line of people that goes down the hallway, wraps around, and comes back towards us. “All of these people are here for the youtube panel.”

There were at least 200 people in this line.

For a panel that was scheduled to be the last one on Friday. Going from 12AM – 1AM.

A WHOLE LINE OF PEOPLE. We all had such a huge shock! For a panel we expected maybe 20 people  to come to, suddenly, 10 times that amount show up! Nerves hit me like a wall of bricks.

We were ushered into the room. Now, this room was at least 4 times bigger than the Halton room. There was a lot of video/audio equipment set up. Lily and Cody were originally going to sit in the crowd, but since we had suddenly been given such a big panelist table, they were able to come up and sit with us as panelists! We even had a special guest, Dr Holocaust, show up at the panel unannounced! It was insane.

Soon, they opened the doors. People started pouring in. After a few minutes, the room was packed. And people were still coming in! This entire time, my heart was pounding. Daryl was freaking out. I kept exchanging nervous glances at Dom. I knew the majority of the people at the panel weren’t there for me specifically, but man, it’s quite nervewracking seeing so many people show up to hear you speak. My moetron waifus Genie and Ringo, as well as Thomas, were seated in the front row for ultimate Moetron support!

The panel started. We each introduced ourselves. Next, we talked about how we got into making content and video-making! I thought it was great because there was a wide range of panelist specialities. Clover knew most about film making, Daryl and I on vlogging, Dom for animation, Natsumi and Lily for parodies and songmaking, Cody for gameplay, and Dr Holocaust on character building/branding.

I tried my best as moderator to lead conversation / panel topics. I know some people were expecting the panel to be about youtube within the anime community, but we focused more on making content and starting up on Youtube! It was really fun. Even though we were all quite nervous, I think we relaxed a bit. About half way through, we did a bit of Q&A!

Finally, at the end of the panel, Daryl surprised everyone by doing a camera giveaway! NONE OF US KNEW ABOUT THIS! He said that a big factor in people’s decisions to make content for youtube is the lack of equipment. Cameras and video equipment can be quite expensive. He asked everybody who had considered videomaking to stand us. Then he asked each of us panelists to pick a person who was standing up. Everybody else sat down.

Then, we needed to choose somebody to win. One of the girls said she had a camera already. The people who were standing also said they had video equipment, and so kindly sat down! There were only two left. They did faceoff Rock Paper Scissors! One of the guys won, and Daryl gave him his own vlogging camera and 16gb memory card! Seriously, that was super nice of him.

What a great way to end the panel! After we left, we were all surrounded by people who wanted to talk to us and take photos with us. It was super surreal. I went from feeling like a total shut-in to feeling like a mini celebrity. Having people come up to me and say they like my videos, or how happy they were to meet me seriously made my entire weekend! You guys have no idea how happy you made me!!!

All in all, the panel was definitely the highlight of my weekend. I can’t express how much fun I had! You guys definitely showed the AN panel coordinators that the Youtube community is thriving and super active within an anime convention environment! Hopefully they’ll take this into consideration when Daryl organizes it next year! (Since I’ll be in the UK and and I think Dom/Natsumi/Lily/Cody are moving out to LA…?)

I’ll write up a full con report soon! 😀

White Screen mesh contacts [review]

Hello lovelies! I’ve got a contact lens review for you today, haven’t done one in a while now!

As I mentioned in a previous post, I’m planning to cosplay Hinata from Naruto Shippuden! She’s a character that has ‘white out eyes’ – she doesn’t have a black pupil.

I bought these contacts from I haven’t bought lenses from them before, but apparently they’re quite well known. They sell lots of special effects contact lenses (like scleral/full eye contacts, ones with special designs…etc. Not really circle lenses)

These lenses are £17.99… I can’t remember the exact price for these, but I’m pretty sure it came to a little over $30. The store is located in the UK, and it took about a week to ship here in Canada! 😀

Unlike regular contacts, there is no part for the pupil to see through, since the purpose of these lenses is to create a whiteout effect.

So you’re probably wondering how much it actually obscures your vision! This is based on my experience with them. For reference, I don’t wear glasses, I have 20/20 or plano vision (0.00). Also my eyes are a bit watery in this picture because I had just put them in!  I swear my blog is mostly freaky/weird pictures of my eyes hahaha.

If you have dark eyes, they do show through the mesh and are pretty obvious up close. However, they look less noticeable from far away. Instead of having pure white-out eyes, your eyes just look dead and gray.

Since it’s a mesh/screen design, you can still see through the mesh. Your vision is probably reduced down to about 60% of your typical degree of visibility. You can still see things such as basic outlines, colours, and shapes. If you bring something up close to your eyes (such as something with writing) and focus harder, you can read.

For example, here is a photo that I took a while ago!

This is what you would see with your regular eyesight.

If you had these lenses in and there was a pretty good amount of light, or it was day time, the photo would look like this. A little bit of blurriness. It basically looks like somebody took a big white overlay and put it over your field of vision.

If there was a low-medium amount of light, it would look like this. You can see more colour and generally make out more of things, but there’s still a bit of white overcast.

Basically, the more light there is, the less you can see. (Not sure what it’s like with the other colours, but this is definitely the case with white lenses.) If you plan on wearing these, make sure you have a friend or somebody who can guide you because these do obscure your vision. I wouldn’t wear these for long periods of time either, as they do make your eyesight a tad blurry/ might cause headaches.

Anyway, yeah. Just be careful when you wear these lenses! :>

Aaaaaand finally, sneak peek of my Hinata cosplay! 😀
Cosplay was sent to me from for review, please check them out! Review coming out soon~

Con G

Domineau and I will be attending Con G in Guelph next weekend! I’m excited because I haven’t seen her since Christmas. We were planning to do Pokemon trainers but the rest of our group had other plans, so it’ll just be the two of us plus some other friends attending the con together. If my Hinata cosplay arrives on time, I guess I’ll do that! Take it out for a test run before Anime North.

Other than that, we don’t really have too many plans… I guess it’ll just be to take it easy for the weekend, interview some people and make some videos, and just have fun instead of freaking out over cosplay stuff. I’ve really had to cut back on cosplay this year because I’m trying to save up some more money for my exchange! (My interview for exchange is on the 26th! Ahhh stress! ;_;)

Oh, and if you see us at the con, please come up and say hello! It’s always awesome meeting my readers/viewers! 😀

I thinking of doing some more fashion/outfit posts… Maybe cosplay transformation videos! I lost my notebook where I write all of my video ideas so I’m trying to remember what I wrote down, hahaha…..
Sorry for the lack in posts, I’ll have some stuff up for you guys soon <3

New cosplay project! I’ve been getting really into Naruto lately. I started reading the manga about 3 weeks ago because I was bored and wanted something new to read on my S2. I used to love Naruto back when I was 11/12, when it played on YTV’s Bionix! The arc with Haku and Zabuza was my absolute favourite. I’ve wanted to cosplay Haku forever but I want a Zabuza…. this cosplay will happen sometime in the future!!

The anime has so many filler episodes though, which made me lose interest very quickly. After starting the manga, I’ve become addicted (again)! This time, I was drawn to Hinata. She’s very shy and cute, and her little bursts of courage despite being pretty weak as a ninja make me love her even more. Despite being a character in an insanely huge anime franchise, not many people have cosplayed her! Her Shippuden outfit consists of a purple sweater, blue pants, and leaf village headband. She has white eyes with no pupil (from her Byakugan, which enhances her vision and lets her see very far distances, opponent chakra/energy, etc.)

I’m really excited to cosplay her. I’m going to be using mesh screen contacts for her eyes. It’s basically a white screen design that allows you to see through (the black square are the holes). This covers the iris and gives the ‘white out’ effect. Although circle lenses look nice, they expose the iris and don’t look like Hinata’s eyes. I know I can get grey lenses and photoshop my iris, but I really want to try out screen lenses! I’ll make sure to review them! I bought them here.

I’m kind of sad because I won’t be able to do many cosplay projects this year. I really need to save up for my exchange. Luckily, xfancy will be sponsoring my Hinata cosplay, so I’ll be sure to review the costume and quality for those of you who buy your costumes. Later on, possibly later this month or next month, I’ll be doing a shoot with Joe! Excited and scared for a winter shoot, hopefully I don’t get sick!

I’m sure the photos will be worth it. I think Hinata will be a cosplay that I can take over with me to the UK for cons there! I’ll prob just bring Hilda, Emmy and Hinata? Ahhhh too exciting! :]

I’ll keep updated when my costume, wig, contacts etc arrive!

So, you want to start cosplaying!

Hello everyone! This is actually a really outdated post, hence the old water marks. I wrote this last year but forgot about this post in my drafts, so I figured I may as well publish it!

I’d like to start this new blog series! I tend to get quite a few emails asking me about my cosplays or advice on how to start cosplaying, which is quite flattering because I never really expected people to ask me about it! But since this is also a cosplay blog, I figured I’d try to do more cosplay related posts!

Here are just some examples of the cosplays that I’ve done in the past. As you can see, I’m not a professional cosplayer or anything. I just love doing it. I love working on projects and getting to play dressup… in an extreme way. I’ve found that cosplay has helped me become more confident (I used to be really shy around people, and sometimes still am,) and it’s helped me make lots of really good friends! (Some of my best friends are people I’ve met through cosplay!)

These posts will be more directed to newbie cosplayers / people who want to get into cosplaying. This series isn’t to tell you a specific way on how to do things, but to give you an idea by showing you what I’ve done and the mistakes I’ve made! Haha!

Before we start, what is cosplay?

Cosplay (コスプレ kosupure?), short for “costume play”, is a type of performance art in which participants don costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea. – Wikipedia

Chances are if you’ve lurked my blog, you’ll have come across pictures of my cosplays! If not, you can click here to read the posts/ see photos!

Today, I’d like to start talking about choosing a character and time management.

Choosing a character to cosplay!

If you’re thinking of starting cosplay, you’ve likely thought of a character you want to cosplay! If you’ve already chosen a character you want to cosplay, that’s great! You can skip this step~

If you’re unsure of a character you want to cosplay, here are some things to think about~ In a series, do you feel drawn to a certain character’s design? Are you able to identify or relate to a character on an emotional level? Is there a character you like that you feel you resemble in a way? Do you like a certain character’s design/outfits?

It’s more fun when you’re cosplaying a character you love/have an aspect that you love. If you are able to identify with the character, you’ll have more fun embodying them when you’re dressed up like them! However, I know lots of people cosplay characters simply because they like their outfits!

A trend in some of my cosplays that you have have noticed is that I like cosplaying girl characters with long hair that is usually a dark colour. My two favourite characters to cosplay have very different personalities. Akiyama Mio (K-On) is very mature and cute! Black Gold Saw (Black Rock Shooter) is batshit crazy! But the thing is that both of them have long black hair which I think suits my look well and looks natural!

If you’re still finding it difficult to decide on a character, read a few manga! Watch some anime! Play some video games! Watch some cool cosplay videos! Browse or Cure! See if any friends of yours are  doing a cosplay group from a series you like and ask to join! Inspiration will hit you. :]

Also, if this is your first time cosplaying, you might want to stick to a character with an easier outfit! It’ll be easier for you once you gain experience. There are also many cosplay stores such as Cosplayfu, MicCostumes, eBay etc, where you can buy cosplays! But I’ll be going into that later on.

Time Management~

Now that you’ve chosen a character that you want to cosplay, you’ve got to think about time management! You have to take these questions into consideration~

  • What are you planning to wear your cosplay to? (Photoshoot, convention, cosplay event…etc)
  • How much time do you have until that event? (Weeks/Days etc.)
  • If the outfit is complicated, how long will it take you to make it? (Or how long will it take you to acquire these skills?)
  • If you’re buying/commissioning outfits or props, how long will it take for the items to be made/shipped/arrive?
  • If you’re ordering wigs, how long will it take to arrive?
  • Do you think you’ll be able to finish it in time for the convention without rushing?
Lots of cosplayers tend to work on parts of their cosplays and then procrastinate/leave the cosplays until a few days before the con, which causes them to rush and pull all nighters! Believe me, avoid this if you can!! You don’t want to be sleep-deprived wearing your rushed costume at a convention because you’ll feel groggy and probably won’t enjoy the convention as much as you’d like.
Personally, I like to start on a cosplay project well in advance of a big convention like Anime North or Fan Expo. It gives me time to plan everything out and work at a comfortable pace.

I usually start collecting references once I decide on a character. The picture above is of the references I collected for my Black Gold Saw cosplay! I typically start a cosplay project about 3 months before a big convention. If you want to commission something, you might want to start a bit earlier because it takes a lot of time for commissioners to work on something + having it shipped to you.
If you’re buying a costume off a website like eBay or another Costumes usually take about 1-2 months to be made and shipped to you. (This is based on the times to ship from China to Canada… it might take longer/shorter time depending on where you live)
I usually take a blank sheet of paper and make a planner/list of things to do, and tape it on my wall. That way when I’m sitting around doing nothing, I can always look for little things on the list to do! Finishing little bits at a time is better than rushing a few days before the event. You’ll have more time to perfect the little details and make the outfit turn out better over the long run!

Have a question? Feel free to leave a comment!

Youmacon 2012

Hey guys! Sorry for not updating in forever. I’ll try to update more frequently! I’ll be uploading a few reviews within the next two weeks so please look forward to those.

Last weekend, I attended Youmacon in Michigan, Detroit with Sami and Genie! This was our first time travelling by ourselves (just the 3 of us, without our usual group of friends.) I slept over at Sami’s house the night before, which was really nice because it was the first time in forever that I actually got to spend some girly time with her ;_;

We left super early in the morning, as our bus to Detroit left at 8:45am. Genie cut it close and got to the bus station a few minutes before we left! It was 7 hour trip through the countryside before we reached the border. American border control is really intense – they are waaay more strict than the Canadian side haha! It was funny to see the officers check out bags and finding costume parts/colourful wigs.

We though the convention centre was a bit of a drive into Michigan  but it turns out that the RenCen is right next to the border offices! The greyhound station is about two miles in though, so we had to taxi over. ALSO, our taxi ride to the convention centre was probably on the scariest moments of my entire life. The taxi driver was this big, scary looking guy. As we walked over to his taxi, the other taxi drivers were catcalling at us. He tried to scam us by charging us $60 (for a two mile ride, what!?) but in the end we gave him $30 because we were scared out of our wits. (I was half expecting him to drive us to an abandoned building and kill us, YES IT WAS THAT SKETCHY.)

The convention center had the most confusing layout. The floors were arranged like a set of rings, but stairs/escalators were located at random spots. I think we figured out how to navigate the convention easily on the last day…. Carroll actually cosplayed as well! As Tuxedo Mask!

YESSSS found a Professor Layton and Luke cosplayer! 😀 They did such a great job! Also found these cool Mass Effect cosplayers with impressive armor!

 Dealers room!

Genie finally got a Kigurumi, so it now we all have cat kigurumis! / Absolutely amazing Jack and Sally cosplay!

The most perfect TF2 cosplayers in the entire world. Seriously, these guys were amazing! And so enthusiastic! The Pyro even did the taunt pose after I asked him, but the photo was blurry. After seeing so many great TF2 cosplayers that weekend, I was highly regretting my decision not to bring Fem!Scout!
Seeing such great TF2 cosplayers motivates me even more for my Sniper cosplay!

Pretty Kelly/Gammo as Fem!Joker! Sorry for the terrible lighting – this was taken in our hotel room. Due to some unfortunate circumstances on the convention’s behalf, Nina decided to cancel our hotel reservation, resulting in us rooming with Solo! There were 20 people rooming in our room, I kid you not! It was a “comfortable” 20 though. Sami and I had our own little section that we slept in, which happened to be right beside the A/C, therefore we were freezing on Friday night. Oh, and the hotel decided to deactivate everybody’s room cards on Friday, so we were trapped outside of our room for a few hours until it was all sorted out. On Saturday, some people in the room lent us a blanket which was so much nicer, I think we fell asleep instantly because it was so warm and snuggly.

All in all, Youmacon was a bit of a disaster. Sami and I had press passes and were looking forward to interviewing special guests/cosplayers! We were told in our media email that we would be receiving a schedule of interview times/press events, but we didn’t get those, and the staff seemed to be confused. Also, it was a bit of a hassle that the artist alley/dealers room were in a separate building that was located a few blocks away. We had to take a monorail to get there. To top it all off, we were exhausted all weekend from our travels/ having to sleep on the floor, which led to us losing motivation to cosplay. We spent a lot of time just hanging around in our regular clothes.

I’m sure Youmacon is a great convention and this was just one of their off years, but I don’t think that I’ll be attending again. I think I’d rather put my money towards a convention like Katsucon which I have only heard good things about! However, I met so many cool people this year, and I had a great time just sitting in the hotel room talking and hanging out.

If anything, it made for some pretty cool stories! If anybody asks me what the craziest thing I’ve ever done was, I can confidently reply that I took the bus to Michigan with my girlfriends for the weekend while my parents were on vacation, and walked around sketchy downtown Detroit in a maid outfit.

P.S. I changed my URL to! When I found out that the domain was open, it was too good to be true! Please make sure to update your bookmarks/blog rolls! Thank you lovelies!

Emmy Altava – Cosplay Photoshoot @ Tiffany Falls

About two weeks ago, the photography team Reverie Creative Studios messaged me in regards to a collab photoshoot! They had never shot cosplay before and wanted to give it a go. They have some great work on their facebook page so agreed to work with them! I’ve never worked with them before, but they’re based in Toronto (quite convenient :D)
Anyway, they wanted to try shooting my Emmy Altava cosplay at Tiffany Falls in Hamilton, Ontario. I was super excited because I wanted to re-enact some shots from Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva! Even some similar shots to the scenes in Professor Layton and the Last Specter.

It is a beautiful location! Great for foresty shots. I want to find somebody to cosplay Slenderman so we can do slender shots haha!

Here are some photos:

“…What’s this? Could this be another clue?…..A letter?”

(Context behind why I’m beating up a wolf – In the movie, Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva, puzzle 003 requires the Professor, Jenis, and Luke to escape from a pack of wolves in order to reach the castle. They trap themselves in a cage, pick it up, and use it as a shield as they carry it towards the castle!

You can watch that scene here: (starts about 3 minutes in.)

Although Emmy Altava isn’t in this part of the movie, I have a feeling that she would just beat up those wolves and carry on. EMMY USED ROUNDHOUSE KICK! YEAH!

After we finished shooting at Tiffany Falls, the photographers decided that they also wanted to check out Webster Falls! It was actually on top of the Hamilton mountain, but the park that it was located in was gorgeous! The path leading down to the bottom of the falls was closed off, so we had to try other locations….
…Like right at the edge of the waterfall/cliff area! It was a huge drop so I was kind of spooked the entire time,  but the photos look really cool!I love the editing! ( `・∀・´)
It was a super fun shoot! I caught a cold after though so I’m currently suffering from a sore throat and sniffles.  ヽ(`⌒´)ノ

I also filmed a little vlog. The beginning is just me rambling about things as I wait for them to come pick me up!

Wow, I can’t believe it’s already September! This year is flying by too quickly, I wish it would slow down~

On Saturday, the 25th of August, Ringo and I attended Fan Expo 2012! Considering the fact that we usually attend the full weekend of conventions, attending one day was a bit of a change! Fan Expo has been getting more and more expensive, so we could only really afford to attend for one day. (Saturday pass cost us $50 each ;_;) Next year we’ll hopefully be able to apply for media passes!

As a very last minute decision, we cosplayed female scouts from Team Fortress 2. We are both big fans of the game, and I’m sure that wear scouts was the most fun we’ve ever had in cosplay.

I cosplayed a red team scout because red suits me better~ In the game however, I almost always play Blu team 😀 (I guess that makes me a traitor haha~ THAT RED SCOUT IS A SPY!)

I made the Blu team intel as my prop, as well as The Atomizer.

Sorry for the graininess, this photo was taken on my instagram! (If you have instagram, my username is @mahoushoujo) This was made from a baseball bat (bought at Value Village for $6), spray painted silver, BONK! designs painted on with acrylic paint, with craft foam for the raised red band parts at the tip and near the top of the neck.

Matching shoesies on the GO train. I actually managed to find a pair of Adidas in Value Village for $15! Needless to say, these were the most comfortable cosplay shoes ever. I normally have to wear boots that are too tight or shoes that fit strangely, so it was fantastic being able to wear comfortable running shoes all day! No cramping! 😀

At the convention! I attached a BONK! sign to Ringo’s headset. Lots of TF2 fans recognized that and complimented us on it, saying it was a nice touch!

For those interested, this is what was inside the intelligence. Popcorn, medic speech bubble (which wouldn’t attach onto my headband so I ended up ditching it,) makeup bag, sandviches, sports take, extra wire, canned coffee and juice!

Us being ~*~kawaii~*~
Obligatory “:C” face!
The Dr Who Society of Canada was at the convention! I haven’t watched the series, but these huge daleks were pretty cool!
FOUND A LITTLE RED SCOUT IN THE DEALERS ROOM! Suuupppper happy to find him, what a cutie pie~ After I finished taking his photo, his dad said “Did somebody ask for your picture? You’re famous now!” Hahaha!

They had models and actual set props from ‘Paranormal’. Stop motion animation is always fascinating, so it was really cool to see what the behind the scenes process was like.

Creators of ‘Cyanide and Happiness’ had a booth in the dealers room! They were drawing personalized comics for those who spent over $30.

Carroll waiting for us to come out the washroom. So ronery~

After, we decided to take a break and wander outside for some fresh air. Somebody started blasting Gangnam Style, so naturally Kyle and Alexandro…. I mean, Tulio and Miguel, had to assume their positions 😀
Later on, we took some photos with Thomas and Joe. Such a fun photoshoot!

Running away from the Blu scout as she chases me for the intel!
Oh god these are my favourite two photos – Red scout runs away from the Blu base with the intel!

A friend brought me an arupakaso that I bought in a group order! If only I had attached a little horn onto the end, it could have looked like the balloonicorn!

Saw a giant dragonfly divebombing at me… I hate dragonflies so so so much ;_; Ridiculously scared of them!
Saw this guy in the dealers room! HE WAS HUGE. He had huge platform boot things on!
And general cutesy Scoutness just because~~
More photos soon! I’ll post them when I get the photos sent to me!
Hope you are all having a wonderful day!

Rorona Frixell- cosplay @ otakon!

Hello darlings~

Got the first legit picture back from Otakon of my Rorona Frixell cosplay!

I’m so happy that I got to shoot with her at Otakon! Before meeting her, my friends and I used to lurk her wonderful cosplay photos on her flickr page… We called it the flickr cosplay hall of fame haha!  She was wonderful to shoot with in person! Sami and I were all fangirly because she actually directed us in the photos. As cosplayers, we shoot with lots of photographers who kind of stand there and don’t give much direction, usually resulting in a photo that could have so much more potential to look awesome.
Anyway, I was rushing to finish this cosplay before the convention. Genie was kind enough to let me borrow her sewing machine because mine was broken. I sewed everything except for the collar which was stitched on in the hotel the night before the convention.
This was probably the best cosplay that I’ve ever made myself. I’m so happy as to how it turned out! I was super depressed about it on the Friday before the con because I was convinced that I was going to look like absolute crap in it. (Kept moaning about how I would only wear it for a few hours and then change out of it.) On the morning of the convention after putting the whole thing on for the first time, I looked pretty awesome in it! Especially with all of my makeup and accessories on!
Hopefully I’ll get some more shots when we wear it at Anime North 2013 next year! I’ll try to do a construction breakdown soon.
You can see shots of it in my Otakon 2012 highlights video!

Bad blogger!

Hi guys!

I’m such a terrible blogger! I originally started this blog with the idea in mind that I would post multiple times a week/month, but that clearly hasn’t been happening! (Last year I did 5-10 posts a month, but in the past few months I’ve only been doing 2-3…. ) I do all posts for myself, as a sort of diary, but I’ve been slacking. I suppose I’ve been directing my energy towards my youtube channel (which has gained a sudden boost in viewers! Almost 5000+ in under three months)

I’ll be blogging more in a few days once I get all of the Otakon vlogs up!
I also ordered quite a few things (mainly makeup), as well as some cosplay posts!

Please look forward to those!

For now, here’s a video that I was in! I’m at 1:45 in the pink hair (Rorona cosplay) with CourtoonXIII, Solo, Dejavudea, Genie, and Sami! Again at 2:00 as Emmy Altava from Professor Layton!

Hi guys!

I’m currently in the process of preparing for Otakon!

I DON’T THINK YOU UNDERSTAND HOW EXCITIED I AM FOR OTAKON!!! This is going to be my very first American US anime convention! I’ll be travelling with Sami and Genie, as well as a few other friends from Toronto. Otakon is the second largest anime convention in the states (after Anime Expo!). It’s in Baltimore which is fairly close. I think the drive will be about 10 hours or so! We’ll be leaving for the States on the Wednesday!

I have so much left to do! Ringo isn’t going to the con with us this year because she has some previously scheduled engagements that she can’t skip out on, so we won’t be able to do Atelier together until Fan Expo! Genie and I will be cosplaying Atelier at the convention! She’s doing Atelier Meruru, and of course, I’ll be doing older ver. Rorona! SO EXCITED TO GET SHOTS WITH HER!!!

My cosplay progress is pretty terrible at the moment. After Anime North, my sewing machine suddenly started working again! With the help of my aunt who is a seamstress, I was able to complete my Emmy Altava (from Professor Layton) cosplay! I’m SUPER excited to cosplay Emmy because she’s my favourite character from the Professor Layton series. She’s such a spunky, fun, kick-ass character! My aunt drafted the pattern for me but I cut and sewed it all together. Proud of myself because this was my first time making a jacket!

Little adjustments still have to be made, such as making button holes and fixing my bow, but other than that it should be set! My hair has grown out long enough so that I can just curl it and use my own hair instead of a wig!

Rorona is going terribly at the moment SINCE MY SEWING MACHINE DECIDED TO BE SUCH A FREAKING TSUNDERE. I’ve managed to finish part of my cape and my skirt. My skirt isn’t 100% accurate to the reference pictures but I’ll fix that, Otakon is just my first test run for Rorona! I plan to do lots of shoots in this once Ringo finishes her Totori cosplay.

Things that still need to be done: finish cape, waist cincher, adjusting shirt, find boots, make hat.

Luckily one of my friends said that he’ll be working on my Rorona staff as a side project! He’s also going to Otakon so he’ll be giving it to me there. I’m so glad because that lifts a whole load of pressure off of my back. Hopefully he can finish it in time! If not, I’ll have to sweatshop it last minute, or I’ll have to use my little potion bottles as props (which would suck, since those were minor side props!)

On Friday, Sami, Genie and I will be meeting up for the last time before we leave! INTENSE SWEATSHOPPING SESSION! Lovely Sami has decided to accompany me as I cosplay Meiko again (last time was Fan Expo) as Synchronicity ver. Rin. Her and Genie patterend the dress, and Sami looks so cute as Rin! I just need to do some quick minor touchups on my Meiko armor (which is currently in a box in my shed), and I should be good to go! I won’t have the sword with me so I’ll have to come up with some good poses. I’m sure we’ll practice when we arrive at the hotel on Thursday!

Is anybody else going to Otakon? We’ll probably be announcing some meetup locations/times on my facebook page, so make sure to check that out. Maybe even a livestream during the convention? :]

Let’s all hope I can finish everything in time! If I’m able to finish soon, I’ll do another post. Thanks!

Hello darlings~

I KNOW I KNOW I’m uploading this like a month later. I went on a total unintentional hiatus! I’ve been getting more hours at work lately and I’m usually really tired by the time I get home to blog. But I’ll be updating more! I promise! Comnpared to the number of posts I did last year, I really seem to be slacking in terms of blogging this year !

On the Sunday of AN, we woke up a bit early to clean up the crazy mess left in our hotel room. It was soooo bad. The friends that I was sharing the hotel room with had been sewing costumes the night before so there were pins/needles/hot glue all over the floor. After packing up, I changed into Maid ver. Mio (…again lol, this seems to be my back up costume.) Ringo changed into her pink cat Kigurumi. We brought our luggage downstairs and checked out, Thomas drove us to the convention centre.

Sunday was a really lazy day. I’ve forgotten most of the details because I’m posting this con report about 3 weeks after the convention. Ringo and I spend the day walking around the dealers room which was quite nice! We decided that we’re going to reserve the Sundays of conventions for taking it easy. It was a lot more fun than rushing to photoshoots or cosplay meetings.

Here are some photos!

Met up with supa kawaii Jillian from PandaLogic! She was cosplaying Gumi from Vocaloid, Matryoshka version! Her cosplay was so cute and she made such a cute Gumi! I felt kinda bad for her though because it was super hot outside and she was wearing a fleecy sweater!

Her Matryoshka cosplay inspired me to plan a Matryoska version Meiko cosplay! I’ll hopefully have it done for Youmacon since it’s an easy outfit and I like cosplaying Meiko.
Her cousin Leah cosplaying the special bikini version figma from Anohana! The figure itself is super gorgeous. I don’t collect figures, but I really want this one!

Gooby pls.

Maes Hughes at the ATM. I’m pretty sure this is the very popular local Maes Hughes cosplayer! If I’m not mistaken, he’s this guy.  /creepy

Gen at her crafters table! She was selling lots of lolita accessories! She had these cute coffin rings for sale! I had intended on getting one but I forgot to pick one up….orz.

Super cute Sawako cosplaying Ririchiyo with her boyfriend as Miketsukami! I think couple cosplays are always really adorable! Uwaaa~~

Not really sure who he’s cosplaying, but it’s somebody who recognized Ringo and I from Facebook / Youtube! (Ketsada I think…?) Awesome prop! It looked quite heavy!
Ahhh adorable Mio cosplayer! PLEASE DON’T SAY YOU ARE LAZY!

MoeMike being moe again!

FINALLY MET MALLORY. I can’t exactly remember how I started talking to her, but I remember her as extremely cute school uniform Yui cosplayer  from last year’s Anime North! This year she cosplayed Azunyan! Ahhhh so cute so cute! I looked so tall and derpy beside her weh. Not sure why, but AN this year was also derpy&unphotogenic-sachie-con.

All in all, I’d give this year’s Anime North a 2.5/5. It just wasn’t the best convention I’ve been to, a lot had to do with personal problems and costume malfunctions, plus our original cosplay plans fell through. Anime North has been losing it’s magic for me over the past two cons. Hopefully next year’s Anime North will be super awesome! (It also might be my last AN before UK exchange, if I get approved for it that is!)

On a random note, I recently bought a new Samsung Galaxy S2 from one of my friends. I’m loving it so far, but I’m still getting used to the Android system after only using iPhone so far haha.
Now that I have such a nifty phone, I’ll be able to take more pictures for blog posts and such! The camera on the S2 is great (8 megapixel back camera and 2 megapixel front camera). Since my old point and shoot stopped working, I figured that I could use this instead for casual pictures.

I’m using instagram, follow me @mahoushoujo!

The Saturday of any convention is usually the biggest day for us, where we debut our biggest costumes. But since our planned costumes (Atelier) fell through, we didn’t really have anything to do. So we wore ‘maid version Black Rock Shooter’ aka super lazy last minute cosplay.

Thomas wasn’t able to drive us from our hotel to the convention centre so we had to walk. We were super sweaty from walking in the sun with large weapons! To make it even worse, a skateboarder pushed past Ringo at top speed and knocked her and her canon over.   So dumb, seriously! Why couldn’t he just slow down?

We got to the con and met up with Karameru! Derpy faces yeaaah!

After arriving at the convention, we rushed to catch the last half of the Pinku Project concert! They were so good! We all felt so enthusiastic while watching their performance. I didn’t have my camera with me, but I’m sure Sami will be uploading some pictures!  We did a bit of wotagei even though we didn’t really know how to haha, but it was a fantastic concert. Can’t wait to see them at their next event! So moee~
We left the convention in search of some food.
This is what my cosplay looked like by itself. Just a basic maid outfit with red collar and thigh high bows, white apron, BGS horns, and my King Saw! I gave King Saw a moe little head bow too!

Photo with Ringo and my friend Julia!
Ringo’s outfit was like mine – blue ribbons only on collar and on shoes! Her canon also had a big blue bow!
I tried posing like this because I figured BGS would be a tsundere or yandere character, but I don’t think I pulled it off well. I need to practice my tsundere faces!
We didn’t stay in Black Rock Shooter meidos for too long. Ringo changed into regular clothes and I just changed circle lenses and transformed into moe moe kyun Mio!
Now for some awesome cosplays!
Piranha plant!
Thornrose /Guy and his friend Iridescent-Fall / Chantal cosplaying from Ao No Exorcist. I haven’t watched the anime before but they had fantastic costumes! I wish I could cosplay as well as you guysss~~~

THE TRUEST OF LOVES. lol, honestly one of my favourite pictures of the weekend. The location of pedobear’s hand is so appropriate.

Team Fortress 2 cosplayers! BLU team engineer, sniper, spy, and medic. Probably the best TF2 group at AN! They did a fantastic job. Ringo and I are pretty big fans of the game (we often play together on steam), we walked past the Engie and Spy and were like SPY IN THE BLU BASE,  and EEERECTIN’ A DISPENSER.

YEAAH MUST TAKE A PICTURE OF HUSBANDO EVERY YEAR. I honestly hunt down Professor Layton cosplayers lol… After I took their picture I told the Layton that he should have some hint coins but he only looked at me and laughed nervously, orz.

RED SNIPER YEAH! He had a jarate. +10 POINTS.
Another really great Mako cosplayer! He even had a litte Pabu on his shoulder, really cute! He did a great job!
Bolin, Korra, and Mako doing fanservicey poses.
Not sure who the Bolin is, but he, MeltingMirror Cosplay and Kyle were a fantastic group!

Dragon Ball Z cosplayers! They had really great costumes, especially those wigs! The Vegeta even recognized me from youtube!

Hands down favourite cosplay of the weekend. LEMON GRABBBBBB!!!!!
I didn’t take many photos on the Saturday because I didn’t bring my camera with me when I was wearing maid Black Gold Saw. But I was able to film a vlog!

Hello everyone! It’s that time of year again – convention season!

This year’s Anime North has marked the fifth year since I started going to conventions, and the third (I think?) since I started cosplaying. It’s quite strange to think that I’ve been attending anime conventions for half a decade now! But I don’t regret anything, I’ve made so many new friends and had so many great experiences.

This Anime North was a strange one since we kind of lost motivation as the convention approached. A lot of it had to do with the fact that we weren’t able to put together our Atelier group like we had originally planned. My sewing machine broke about a week and half before the convention so a good amount of our costumes were rushed and attached with fabric glue.  We were also at the Courtyard Hotel which was much further than where we usually stay (due to last minute booking) and we had to walk for about 15-20 minutes to get to the convention centre.

Our hotel was really nice!  We stayed at the Courtyard Hotel, which is just next to the Marriott. Although it was far, the rooms were really nice. We booked a two person room with two queen beds. The room was spacious and there was a big bathroom!

We got to the hotel and unpacked. We hadn’t completely finished our Pokemon cosplays because my sewing machine broke. Ringo’s skirt was basically a cut and creased piece of fabric tucked into an elastic band that was died around her waist! Eheheh~

Headed to the convention after and met up with Karameru and Sami. Walking outside was death, it was about 30 degress outside and we were quite sweaty. We walked to the grassy area beside the convention hall and took some photos in the long grass!

“I wonder where all the pokemon are!”
 A wild Kyuubey appeared!
 Kyuubey used Contract! It failed!
Trainer Sachie used a net ball!
 Success! Trainer Sachie captured Kyuubey!
Waha! Another …pokemon…. added to my collection!
Also took some crack pictures of Ringo (Leaf) and Sami (Howl)!
Probably two of my favourite pictures this weekend! Sami and Ringo make such perfect Howl and Leaf cosplayers!
We took loads more awesome photoshoot photos with my T3i. Here are my favourite shots of each of us!
You can see the rest of the photos on my facebook page

After shooting, we decided to walk back and meet up with some friends for a bit. Saw Guy in his pretty Lelouch cosplay again, and also Kyle / Zacloudseth in his pretty Mako cosplay. So many pretty boys, makes me super depressed ~
Kyle got a pikachu plush for Ringo because she needed a pokemon. BUT IT’S ACTUALLY A PIKACHU THAT TRANSFORMS INTO A POKEBALL! So disturbing.
Regular pikachu and kawaii desu Mako-chan~
Genie didn’t cosplay with us this year because she had only returned from her vacation in China two days prior to the convention. She just stayed at her artist alley table and sold prints. Her art is fantastic! You can check it out here.
It was a pretty uneventful day. We returned back to the hotel to change and relax. We pigged out on instant noodles.
Here are some pics of our hotel room after we unloaded all of our stuff lol, so messy!
Alynn sewing the rest of her American McGee’s Alice cosplay! You can see her giant pepper shaker prop in the background. It was super well made!  Alynn, teach my your skills! Also my Pokemon wigs hanging off the TV because I didn’t bring my wig head. Thread and needles on the carpet lol…

Clothes, cup noodles and food everywhere.

….More of the mess. Even though the room was pretty big, our stuff was everywhere!
And before we knew it, the day was over. Here’s the vlog for Friday!

Last Minute Pokemon Cosplay + AN12 update!

Hi guys! Another quick cosplay progress post.

As it turns out, I won’t be able to finish my Rorona cosplay for Anime North this year. I had all of the materials to finish it, but Ringo wasn’t able to finish her Totori cosplay since our schedules conflicted and we didn’t have time to meet up and work on our outfits.  Instead, we’re just putting it off until Otakon 2012 which takes place at the end of July! That way we’ll have more time to plan and meet up to finish our costumes.

As a very last minute back up cosplay, we have chosen to cosplay Pokemon trainers!

I’ll be cosplaying Hilda/Touko, the female trainer from Pokemon Black & White [left]. I’m really excited because she’s got a cute but casual outfit! It’ll be very easy to wear since the clothing is very comfortable and suitable for end of May weather! We’ll even have hats to shield us from the sun, and our costumes won’t melt off ! Hehehe~
I’ve filmed and photographed my progress, so I’ll be making a full how-to video and blog post! Illustrating everything from painting the boots to sewing the vest, and of course making pokeballs! I’ll be posting that soon. Just need to finish up little details like making the XTransceiver, bag, and the pocket things on her shorts.
Ringo will be accompanying me as the female trainer from Pokemon LeafGreen & FireRed. I’ve made her hat, the clip thing on her bag (I forget what it’s called), and pokeballs. Just need to modify the shirt, make the bag and skirt! It’s quite an easy outfit so I should be able to finish it.
I’ll be meeting up with her this Monday (Victoria Day, so neither of us are working) so I can use her sewing machine. Mine broke down this week! Broken sewing machine a week before the convention = apocalypse!
But we’ll be able to finish all of this on time.
Here’s my cosplay lineup for Anime North 2012.
Yup, doing Black Gold Saw again this year! Also a last minute addition because of all of our cosplay plans falling apart. We’re planning to do a maid outfit variant because regular BGS was super hard to wear last year – it was uncomfortable with the long wig + armor breaking + feet dying in heels + heavy weapon. Our hotel this year is further than the one we were at last year so we decided it was too troublesome. Maid variant will still be cute! Just replace her outfit with a maid dress + stockings + regular shoes, but still horns and sword!  Haha and dark red bows. Same with BRS, but with blue bows and the canon! I’m looking forward to it.
Pokemon on Friday since it’ll be easy to wear for meeting up with people, as well as for filming vlogs and stuff. Probably changing into Pokemon again before we leave the hotel on Sunday because it’ll be easy to move around in and won’t restrict us as we drag our luggage down the street a few blocks to the DoubleTree.  Maybe even Saturday evening when we change out of BRS!
I’ll post a vlog on my channel some time this weekend explaining the final details of our cosplays, meet-up locations, etc. I look forward to meeting all of you! If I’m not able to post a progress post this or next week, I’ll post it after the convention before the con reports.
I’m trying to film a few circle lens reviews and finish the posts for them, they should be up over the course of the next week. It’s going to be a busy week!
What will you be cosplaying as for Anime North this year! 😀 (If you’re not going to AN, do you have any future cosplays planned? )

Recent Shoujo Manga~

Recently I’ve been reading a lot of shoujo manga on my iPhone. I’ve been using the app Manga Rock to read the scans! It’s super convenient to store volumes and chapters on my iPhone so I can read them anywhere! You don’t even need internet – if you buy the full version (which I believe is like $3.99) you can download chapters/volumes to read them any time.

They just came out with a new, Manga Rock 2,  updated app though. It won’t run properly on my iPhone 3GS though, it lags like crazy so I have to stick to the old version.

Anyway, here are some of the series that I’m currently loving! Series descriptions are from MangaFox.
All of these series are shoujo manga, meaning they are series that are marketed towards teenage girls. They typically have a strong focus on romance and relationships. I typically like this category more than josei manga, which is directed towards young/older women. (Don’t get me wrong, I still like josei series, but I tend to like shoujo more haha. I love the fluff~)

Hajimemashite KamisamaSuzuki Julietta

Momozono Nanami’s dad, a man with a penchant for gambling, disappeared after accumulating a huge amount of debt. Thus, she was chased out of her house by the debt collectors. When she met a timid man being chased by a dog, he told her that he’d give her his house. She believed his persuasive talk, but when she went to his house… it turned out to be a shrine. Moreover, a guy with fox ears appeared, which made Nanami even more confused. What will become of homeless and confused Nanami?

Sachie’s opinion: OH MY GOD THIS SERIES, I CAN’T EVEN. This is SUCH a great series. Definitely one of my favourites so far! I started this series a few days ago and I’m all caught up (66 chapters released as of today.) I’m hooked! I’ve caught myself fangirling and squealing multiple times. The storyline is super entertaining, characters are captivating and the romance is great. The art is beautiful, and the author’s style really reminds me of Special A.  I really adore this series, and I definitely recommend this to anyone whose looking for a good shoujo to read! 5/5!

L-DK — Watanabe Ayu

Shuusei Kugayama is the “prince” of his high school, but he always turns down confessions–including one from Aoi Nishimori’s best friend. Although she initially hates him for this, when Shuusei moves in next door to Aoi, who lives alone, she starts thinking that he might not be such a bad guy after all…

Sachie’s opinion: This seems like the typical girl living alone, hot guy moves next door and they fall in love shoujo manga. However, it has its own unique twists and turns in the storyline. Characters aren’t developed as well as they could be and plot is weak at times, but it’s a cute series. It has some very sweet and some very intense moments that get the heart beating fast! I really enjoyed the intense moments haha, they kept me hooked. Despite the heroine’s weak points, I’m still looking forward to the future chapters. I recommend it for those who are bored and want something cute to read, haha. 3.5/5

Switch Girl!! — Aida Natsumi

TAMIYA Nika is a beautiful, outgoing, popular high school girl. She has just the right look, just the right fashions, and is everyone’s friend. What everyone at school does not know is how hard Nika works to keep up this perfect image, and what she is REALLY like at home. When not at school, Nika is a scary, sloppy, tight-fisted girl who wears glasses, an ugly sweatsuit, and has her hair pulled back into unattractive buns. She lays around playing video games and reading manga. Her attitude is bossy and cranky, and she travels far out of her way to shop where she won’t be recognized.

Every day, Nika “Switches On” with a strict regimen of beautification that involves primping and plucking and careful dressing. The only person who knows about Nika’s Switched On/Off modes is her best friend, who is also aware of the reasons behind the changes.

However, soon a second person finds about about Nika’s personalities – someone who has his own On/Off switch, but in reverse! His name is KAMIYAMA Arata, and he is a recent transfer student. He meets Nika when she is in OFF Mode, and then again at school when she is ON. However Nika can see that he has his little secret. At school, Arata wears thick swirly-eyed glasses and messy hair that make some bullies think he is an otaku. However, at home, he ditches the glasses and is downright gorgeous! He is just the opposite of Nika, but why?

Sachie’s opinion: I originally discovered this series after a friend uploaded a picture of herself to facebook similar to the one posted above. I’m sure alot of girls can relate to being switch girls – looking completely different with and without makeup. (I know I can relate! Hehe~ I’m definitely a switch girl!) Characters are memorable, and the storyline is quite funny. I’ve caught myself laughing out loud a few times! The art style is quite comedic. There are some really great romantic moments in this series! 4.5/5!

There is actually a drama by the same name! I’ve watched a few episodes and I’m really enjoying it. Watch it here!

Those are three of my favourite series as of the moment. I’ll try to do more recommendations for manga in the future if you like! I’ve actually discovered many series through YourGimmick, a manga review blog run by a friend! She’s read hundreds, probably thousands of manga (mostly shoujo and josei I think), and posts reviews on them here. Super helpful website for shoujo manga fans!

Also, I should be posting more cosplay progress + a new video soon! 😀

Cosplaying Rorona #1 : Making the Purse

Hello my lovelies! Long time no talk!

I’m back today with a cosplay post! Anime North 2012 is less than one month away, and I’ve been getting work done on my Rorona cosplay. For those of you who didn’t know/don’t follow my facebook or twitter, I’m cosplaying Rorona from the RPG game for PlayStation 3 – Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland 2.

I was drawn to this design because she’s so cute! Her outfit is very comfortable and she has a small but intricate prop. After I cosplayed Black Gold Saw last year, I wanted to wear something less painful with a prop that wasn’t so huge. I have a feeling this will be my favourite cosplay so far! Compared to the other cosplays that I have made myself (Meiko and Mio), this is my favourite costume design.

Unfortunately, it looks like Ringo won’t be able to join me as Totori for Anime North. Genie won’t be able to do Meruru either since she’s going to China and getting back on the Wedsnesday before AN so she won’t have time to work on it. If Ringo decides to go to Otakon, we’ll have out full group ready for then!
Ringo and I are currently working on a backup cosplay for Anime North because we always cosplay together. I’ll still bring Rorona for a day though for a test run.
Annnyway, as you can see in the picture above, Rorona doesn’t have a bag.
Totori does though (reference design above) , so I decided to design a bag for Rorona that looked in character, Atelier style. This way, I’d be able to carry around my stuff in a small pouch without having to carry around a huge bag that didn’t go together with the costume.
Went to Fabricland and found discounted leathery material, perfect for the bag!
First, I made a pattern out of newspaper, testing out possible dimensions. I made the dimensions of the bag a small-medium size. I left extra space around the actual size to sew the pieces together. Then I transfered the pattern into the pleathery material and cut the pieces out.
Here are all of the pieces laid out.
Since I bought too much pink sable suede for her cape, I decided to use the extra material to line the inside of the bag. I labelled the pieces on the ‘wrong’ side of the fabric (the side that wasn’t soft.)
The pink isn’t that bright either, it’s more of a muted raspberry colour.
Then, I sewed pockets made from white drapery material (also extra material from the pattern that I was going to use on the white part of her cape.) I sewed the pink onto the other side of the pleathery material.

I attached the pieces side by side. This way, I’d only have to attach the bottom and then sew up the sides. (lol you can see all of my loose threads, oooops.) The pocket on the far left is for my iPhone, and the one next to it (which is the front of the bag) is for small things like cards or makeup, change etc.

When I sewed it all together, it looks like this! (The left side of the bag in the picture looks a bit wonky, but it’s because I didn’t straighten out the bag properly.) I folded in the top, still going to fix that.

Next, I cut out the patterns for the flap. I sewed them together like what I did with the other pieces.
The flap itself looked really boring so I decided to add some beaded designs! Totori’s bag has a sun and moon design, so I decided to use a floral inspired design. Beading took forever, orz.

Taadaa! For my first time doing pattern beading, I’m quite pleased with the design! I think it suits the Atelier designs quite well.

 Close up!
What the inside of the bag looks like. It’s still a bit messy, I have to clip all of the loose threads and sew on the other side of the strap.
Despite not being an official part of her costume, I’m glad I have a bag now! I’ve tried filling it. It holds my phone, camcorder, a bottle of water, my wallet, and some cosmetics.
I’ll be posting more cosplay progress soon! Let me know if you’re going to Anime North this year!
Oh, and I’ve posted two more videos on youtube. If you haven’t visited my channel yet, you should! 😉 I’m getting into the habit of uploading more often. I’ll probably vlog about my cosplay progress as well!

Toronto Comicon!

Quick con report of Toronto Comicon, previously known as March Toronto Anime Convention.
My cosplay group and I weren’t planning on attending another small Hobbystar event after the disaster that was DTAC.

Ringo had work, and Genie didn’t want to go… Which only really left Sami and I. We weren’t really interested in going, but then Justin got tickets for us!

On the downside, I pulled my back while practising the dance cover for SO COOL by SISTAR. It’s actually quite embarassing…  I was dancing on the carpet, spun, foot got caught, and fell over. The stupid part was that I didn’t even sprain an ankle, but one of the discs in my back slipped a bit. Meaning whenever I went into certain positions, I felt a shooting pain go up my spine. Same thine happened to me at Fan Expo. Maybe that’s a sign that I should stop going to Hobbystar events.

I wasn’t planning on cosplaying to the event either… but then I figured I may as well get some nice shots in my cosplay! I’m in a partnership with If you buy a cosplay from their shop, use the code sachie and get -10% off your items! I’ll make an official post about it soon.

Changing into cosplay with a slipped disc in your back is quiiiiite painful. Although I pushed through for the sake of cosplay.

Basically, Hobbystar (the company that runs Toronto Comic Conventions) got rid of the anime aspect of the convention and instead made it into a mini Fan Expo comic convention. Downstairs was congested, although it was much better than the Fan Expo convention. Less hassle with security.  We didn’t stay in the actual convention area for long because we’re not particularly interested in comics, so we left after a few hours and just hung out in the lobby area.
We met some really nice people in line, who took this picture of us! Sami is wearing the cat kigurumi that I get her for Christmas, and I’m wearing my Yuki’s day class outfit from Vampire Knight Guilty. It was kind of last minute so I couldn’t get a proper wig or shoes.
Okay, my camera was LOVING SAMI that day! ALL OF THE PHOTOS I TOOK OF HER WERE SUPER MOE MOE KYUUUUN~ omg. My heart! Stop being so moe Sami ughghghgh~~
Visit her blog here! I hope she updates with her own con report soon!
Playing around with different settings on the camera… this picture came out a bit blurry. My face was derpy as usual.
Picture of Justin that Sami took. I really like this picture… if only that backpack wasn’t there!

I did manage to get this very nice picture in my Yuuki cosplay. Thanks Justin for the photo!

Later Sami, Justin, Ackson and I went out for Korean BBQ. I love KBBQ, it’s so good.
meat* (orz)

Side dishes included tofu, sliced potato, sliced radish, kimchi etc. You also got trays of raw meet to cook yourself.
Kyle showed up later. We forced him to eat the rest of the meat that we couldn’t finish. Such a moe eater, haha!
I also heard that Yukapon was in Toronto doing a photoshoot with Pinku Project! Some of my favourite idol/idol group! I really wanted to meet her, but she couldn’t make it to the convention.  Hopefully she comes back soon so we can actually hang out!
I’ll be doing a cosplay post soon!  Can’t wait to blog about future cosplay plans/projects!

Vampire Knight Cosplay + Rent

Got my Vampire Knight cosplay from, who I am currently in a partnership with!  Can’t wait to start making more videos / take pictures in this. I’m cosplaying Yuki Cross from the series Vampire Knight. I have longer hair in these pictures because I wanted to mimic her hair from Vampire Knight Guilty.

These are just some speedy iPhone pictures. Hopefully I’ll be able to take better pictures soon! It’s actually quite funny because I wore my Meiko wig on top with my real hair poking through!  The colors are actually quite close, which it blends so well. I don’t think bangs would work with my actual hair because I have very defined eyebrows that don’t look good under the bangs… I’d have to dye my eyebrows lighter?

Also, if you use the code sachie on, you can get -10% off your order!

Lenses arrived from Mukuchu – Cafe Mimi Waffle grey! Can’t wait to try these out, since I’m super in love with the Cafe Latte ones.

Oh, and an update on the rent. Well, it worked out (for now)! We had to make a deal though because S was having financial troubles, so the land lady said she could rent for only 8 months instead of 12 like the rest of us. It’s good that we have the place now but it kinda sucks that we have to pay 4 months more rent than her… We’re trying to find people to sublease it to over the summer.  We’re signing the official lease on Monday.

I swear if anybody else drops out or suddenly decides they don’t want to rent anymore, I will go into insane version Sachie.

Hopefully everything works out.

Visiting Ringo + Cosplay Plans!

Last weekend I visited Ringo. I’ve never been to her house before, or really to the city she lives in. (We live about an hour and a half bus ride from each other   ) Basically, we starting to plan out and gather materials for our Atelier cosplays!

We’ll be cosplaying Totori and Rorona from the PS3 game Atelier Totori: Adventurer of Arland

(Totori is on the left, and Rorona is on the right.) The designs are super cute and I think this is going to be the first time in which we make our entire costumes by ourselves (We don’t really have experience in sewing, so we’ve been buying parts of cosplays.) We’re even hoping to enter the Anime North masquerade in the novice division with Karumen, Genie, and mle!

Annnyway got to Ringo’s house. Finally gave her the kigurumi that I bought for her birthday/Christmas. Hipster Sachie and Kigurumi Ringo.

Hopefully going to lose some weight after university, face is looking a bit chubby. ( ‾ʖ̫‾)

Ringo in her cat kigurumi. Her’s is pink and white, while mine is black and white! Sami’s is grey and white. Big kigurumi cat family lol!

Went to a Vietnamese restaurant and got some Pho (noodles with soup, meat, and vegetables). Omg. SO DELICIOUS.  Aughhh I must have this again when I go visit her. It was so tasty, I’m in love with pho now haha.

Got this drink, it was called ‘chocolate bubbles’. Basically like chocolate ice with tapioca bubbles at the bottom.   I’m not too crazy about bubble teas… I don’t like the texture of the tapioca bubbles too much. It tastes really weird to me. But this was really good, so I think I’ll give it a second chance.
Ringo and I tried to film the ending sequence for the anime Kill Me Baby. The dance is really funny lol, but we kinda failed at filming it.  I’m trying to edit it now! Here is Ringo trying to do one of the moves.
Here’s the teaser that we filmed.

Hahaha we’re silly. After that, we broadcasted on NicoNico for a few hours. If you have a NicoNico account, you can watch our livestreams on timeshift here!

~Next Day~
I didn’t really take pictures… But we ended up going to this huge fabric and crafts warehouse to find materials.  It was cosplay heaven. They honestly had every color you’d ever need. Except we couldn’t find the right colors for Rorona’s cape and Totori’s top…….. (I guess we’re being extra picky because we want to do these outfits accurately for the masquerade.) We did buy tulle for Totori’s skirt and bow tails! I bought black broadcloth for Rorona’s skirt. I’ll update with some more progress after I start working on more of the things.

I can’t wait to get started on these cosplays! Super looking forward to the cosplay/convention season. If any of you guys are going to Anime North, leave a comment! Are you cosplaying?

On another note, I’d really like to ask you guys for a favour!

I recently entered my university’s digital arts contest. Basically, top 5 submissions with the most votes are presented to a panel of judges, who then choose the winners. I would really really love it if you could vote for me ;_;

The voting process only takes like 2 minutes! ♥

1. Register for a WordPress Account  by clicking here.
2. Go to your email and get your password/login link.
3. Close that page and go to this link:
4. Click on the ‘Votes’ button for the icon with the yellow face /red nose/brown eyes!

Thank you so much ;_; This contest is really important to me. (You can forget about the account after voting, WordPress won’t send you any annoying emails)

So I recently got an email from a reader asking me about the makeup that I use for cosplay! I tend to wear more makeup when I cosplay as to conceal all of my blemishes or minor flaws. Since I like to have nice pictures taken when I am cosplaying, it helps to reduce the amount of editing I have to do. (っ・З・`)っ

I also figured this would be a good way to get back into blogging about cosplay. I think I’ll start working on Rorona at the end of February during reading week since I don’t have midterm exams.

Also, this isn’t my whole makeup collection. This are simply the products which I use for cosplay because they make me look super uguu. ლ(╹◡╹ლ) It might also seem that I caaaake on the makeup. I don’t, it only seems like it because I have so many products!

I only use two or three products for daily wear. I have to work a bit harder because my naked face has some discolouration and I’m super acne-prone. The products I use help to create a seemingly flawless canvas for my face, and help my appearance in convention/cosplay photos!

The products I use are to create the look in the above picture. (♡˙︶˙♡)

I take lots of inspiration from gyaru eye makeup and makeup tutorials from magazines like Popteen and random references like the picture below.

The routine + products I use here are ones I use to create my usually “girly/dolly” look for female characters I cosplay.

This isn’t exactly a tutorial although I do explain how I use the products! I’ll do a tutorial later when I post about my new Vampire Knight Yuki cosplay! :]

I don’t have many brushes… I don’t wear much make-up on a daily basis so I always hesitate buying new brushes. I’ve been thinking about getting a stippling brush and powder brush. Will probably get a few from the ELF website.

I currently have two big puffy brushes, a medium sized brush, a smaller brush, and an eyebrow brush which I can’t find at the moment. I really need to wash my brushes again ehehe…

Also have a mini and regular sized eyeshadow sponge thing. (swab?)

B B   C R E A M

I currently own two BB creams, SKIN79’s Oriental Gold and Triple Functions.
I reviewed them here. I like them more than foundations for various reasons.

1) They suit my skintones better – I could never find foundations that suited my skin well! My skin colours get paler/white in winter and more yellow in the summer.
2) They have properties which are apparently good for your skin.
3) Varying coverage – first layer starts off a bit sheer but they are easily buildable and have nice coverage. Also looks less cakey than foundation.

When I cosplay, I mix the two colours. I find it makes thicker and nicer coverage, but still not as heavy as foundation.

I tend to use BB cream under my eyes and just layer it a bit to work as a concealer. I usually wear this concealer on the Sundays of conventions after staying up in the early hours of the morning from Saturday night.ヽ(*゚д゚)ノ It has okay coverage, gets the job done.

I use two different powders. First is Kiss Me Heroine Smooth Cover Powder in 01. This powder matches my skintone but has a slight yellow tone. It sets the BB cream very nicely.

I don’t really like the yellow tone it casts on my face so I go over it with this Lioele Sun Elastic Powder Pact in Nude Beige. It’s more of a white beige. After sweeping it over my face, the white-beige colour tones down the yellow. In photos, my face looks white-beige.

I slightly contour my face with NYC Mosaic Face Powder in Transulent Highlighter Glow. I have a pretty round face so I contour the sides of my face and along my forehead with this light darker beige powder. This helps create the illusion of shadows, making my face look more angular. I dropped my palette though and it shattered so I need to pick up another one.

Finally, I highlight my nose, (lack of) cheekbones, and forehead with Physician’s Formula Mineral Glow Pearls. It shimmers a bit and helps those areas catch some light.

I have two different blushes that I use. (Not together though.)

The one I use most often in cosplay is my Majolica Majorca’s Puff de Cheek in Apricot Macaroon. I use this one often because I play up my eyes as my most striking feature, therefore I don’t want too much colour on my face pulling away from them. The blush is a pinkish apricot color, which offers subtle colour but doesn’t show up in photos too well. It works well with my yellowish skintone.

Second is Naris Up Chou Chou Cheek Powder in Strawberry Pink. This blush is suuuuper bright and buildable. You only need to pat it on twice with the puff to get super intense colour. I don’t use this blush too often, only when I want my cheeks to stand out…. I usually make Ringo wear it lol. (^皿^) I find it suits her white skin tone better than my yellow skin tone.

I really don’t wear much eyeshadow at all. I mainly use a shimmery nude eyeshadow ( which I can’t find, I’ll update this when I find it) because it matches my eyelid colour and has a nice shimmer.

If/when I apply colour, it’s usually brown. I use Lioele Dollish Triple Eyeshadow in Bronze Brown. Sometimes I go over it with my Make Up Forever Copper eyeliner and blend it into the eyeshadow.

I currently found this new eyeliner which I love! It’s the jey black eyeliner from Maybelline’s Lash Stiletto line. This eyeliner has a felt-tip applicator and draws very precise lines. It doesn’t smudge either. I know some girls don’t apply much / lighter colour eyeliner, but I feel that black eyeliner helps to make your eyes stand out. Especially in photos.

I recently bought Dolly Wink eyeliner in black. I’ll see how that works out, so I might combine it with my current eyeliner.

I also use Sana Eye Shadow Liner in black. It’s black eyeshadow but has a spongy tip applicator which is great for applying under the eyes.

I have two main mascaras I use.

First I apply Rimmel’s Lash Flirt as I find it works really well to create length. I really crave dolly length eyelashes because my eyelashes are quite thin and short.

Next I use Maybelline’s Falsies mascara. This mascara is great for lower lashes and creating volumes! Really fattens and lengthens lashes.

F A L S E   E Y E L A S H E S

These are a must for cosplay! They really make you eyes stand out and give you a girlier look, if that’s what you’re going for. I’m not too particular on brands – recently I’ve been using these Bare Essentials lashes that I got…from the dollar store! These are quite natural designs. I’ve been meaning to try out some ‘dolly’ style lashes, like from Dolly Wink, Eyemazing, Diamond Lash…etc. Maybe one day

C I R C L E   L E N S E S

These are an absolute must for me when I cosplay! It comes to the point where I feel uncomfortable if I don’t have them in lol, I crave alien dolly eyes. (๑ゝڡ◕๑)

Not only do they give me huge animu eyes, they also allow me to change my eye colour to match the character I am cosplaying.

SoooOOoooo, that’s it for now! These are the tools and products that I use when I do my cosplay makeup! I really wish I could put this much effort into my everyday look but it’s too much work for me because I’m a lazy bum. ┐(´д`)┌ I normally just put on BB cream, powder, the shimmery-sheer eyeshadow and occasionally copper eyeliner.

I’ll be sure to do a tutorial on how I do my cosplay makeup later on, with an accompanying video!

I recommend all of these products (except for the concealer, it does an okay job but nothing amazing.)
If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment!

Christmas + Gets + DSLR

Hey guys and gals!

I promised that I’d update about how I spent Christmas, so here I go!

My parents woke me up at 8AM, which is really funny because unlike 6-year old Sachie who woke up at 5AM, I probably would’ve slept until about 4 in the afternoon!  Anyway, my mom + dad + I all unwrapped our presents  and spent time together, it was quite nice. My parents both liked my presents for them!

I got my mom some bath salts from Bath and Body Works’ Aromatherapy line (‘Sleep’ and ‘Stress Relief’). I gifted my dad a…uh…jam set? It sounds weird I know, but it was basically Apple Chutney + English mustard stuff + Black Pepper Oatcakes….British food? It was a set from Crabtree &Evelyn and my dad really liked it. 😀

My parents gave me mostly winter clothing, chocolate(Kinder Surprise!) and Lush stuff! OH AND SOCKS! (I love socks lol!) There was also a little bit of spending money!

We spent most of the day lazing around home because basically everything was closed. I was feeling really drained for some reason so I ended up napping, catching up to the newest episodes of The Office and finishing off the first season of Game of Thrones. Oh my god it is the best series ever, I am so excited for the second season ahh ahh ahhhh!

My Christmas was pretty quiet this year, but it was nice. How did you spend your Christmas (if you celebrate it?) Or the winter holidays so far?

Went to Pacific Mall the other day. Pacific Mall is this really big Asian mall that sells lots of Korean/Japanese style clothing (super expensive), Japanese cellphones… Lots of things from Asia! Picked up the January 2012 issue of Popteen featuring the KPOP group ‘KARA’ on the front and back!

Also bought these fingerless glove/hand warmer things… They’re so cute! And so warm!

Picked up Rohto’s Lycee eyedrops! I’ve seen lots of good reviews so I decided to buy a little container for myself.

The sensation after putting the drops in feels different from normal eyedrops. Lycee drops make your eyes feel…minty? Tingly? It’s not an unpleasant feeling, I wasn’t really expecting it at first! My eyes got a bit watery after putting the drops in, but that stopped after a few seconds.

Went to Ardene yesterday and picked up a new wallet since my old one was falling apart… Actually two, since it was 2 for $15~!

Fiiiiinally, I got a DSLR! The Canon Rebel T3i to be exact! I’m so so so happy! It arrived today in the mail since I ordered it online. I didn’t think I was going to get one but some little miracles happened and now I am an owner of a DSLR! *tears of happiness*

(I’ll also be making a new flickr/deviantart, which I will link in future posts.)

So please look forward to some more photoblogs, as well as photoshoots with MOETRONcos  I’m still learning how to use it and fiddling around with the different settings, so I’ll be starting the A-Z photo challenge on this blog!  More to come later!

I’ll leave you with a little interview that did with us at DTAC~

Happy New Year everyone! <3

Our K-On Maid cosplay group! (+ Maid version Kakashi, who was one of Sami’s friends. She’s not part of Moetron though~ )

This DTAC marked the 1 year anniversary of the cosplay group I’m in, called “MOETRONcos” (Or just Moetron~).

Basically, this was how MOETRONcos was formed!

I met Ringo at Anime North 2009, and we started talking on FB and became really good friends!  We became cosplay partners after that. (Picture is of us at AN2011 – Black Rock Shooter group) (´・ω・`)

Genie was the older sister of one of my school friends! (゜▽゜;) I think I added her to FB because I knew she cosplayed and I also knew of her on deviantart! (Her art is amazing – her deviantart.)  We started talking about K-On I think because we both liked it. (Picture is of us at DTAC 2010)

I met Sami for the first time at Anime North 2010.Sami originally messaged me on about the Vocaloid photoshoot. (Since I was cosplaying Magnet version Luka and she was cosplaying default outfit Miku). She was so cute! (Picture from DTAC 2010)

I can’t remember how exactly, but I brought everyone together at DTAC 2010 for a K-On Listen! cosplay!  It worked out so well…We had a lot of fun cosplaying together and decided to do it again for Black Rock Shooter! (ノ*゜▽゜*)

…And thus formed the Moetron Original 4!!! (*≧ω≦)ノ

Carmen joins us for some latercosplays… I think she originally started commenting on pictures or something of us that Genie posted (they go to the same school.) We instantly hit it off and invited her to cosplay with us!  Like Nodoka in our K-On group, Black Rock Kaito at Anime North 2011, and Black Matagi for Fan Expo! She’s so sweet! (Picture from Fan Expo 2011)

Chibatsu is our K-On group’s official Azunyan! She’s so cute! She’s like a part-time member I suppose, as she has her own cosplay groups… But she always joins us as Azunyan which makes me so happy, she’s so fitting for Azunyan! I met her I think in 2009 at a local cosplay event, my first ever cosplay picnic~ 。◕‿◕。
I can’t find any pics of just the two of us together, but we have some in the K-On maid shoot with Thomas!

Love you guys <3 You make cosplaying super fun and I’m so happy to be friends with all of you!

If you’d like to find out more about the other girls, check out ‘COSPLAY‘ in the tabs!

(Psssst, watch in HD!   )

The Failure that was DTAC.

Hi everyone! A little scheduled post for you (so I’m technically writing this in the past! Ooooh~!~!~!)

Just a quick blog update between study sessions. Got my final exams coming up, hopefully I pass all of them!

Went to DTAC on December the 11th at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. All of my opinions on the convention are entirely my own, based on my previous first hand experiences.

DTAC (December Toronto Anime Convention, a small event run by Hobbystar Marketing) was absolutely shit.

I’ve attended a good amount of Hobbystar events as a cosplayer (events like Fan Expo, MTAC, and DTAC.) They’ve had their issues which were mainly small things that I brushed off and didn’t really care too much about. Fan Expo 2010 was pretty horrible because of the giant lines/overcrowding/insufficient space for attendees, but I didn’t really care because I was able to get inside (they stopped letting people in half way through the day due to overcrowding so many people couldn’t even get into the convention, despite having bought tickets.)

DTAC 2010 was actually really fun. No issues with security, Moetron (my cosplay group) and I could walk freely, there was sufficient space, and we could roam around casually without being hassled.

MTAC 2011 had some small issues with security, with them suddenly cutting off the convention space a few hours into the event. Other than that, it was alright.

Fan Expo 2011 was great – despite the jacked up event prices, there was sufficient space as they had rented out the bigger part of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. We didn’t encounter any problems with security, everything generally went quite smoothly.

Now…DTAC. Basically, security was terrible. We were in the washroom getting changed, and the lady barges in and starts yelling at us to get out because lots of other people needed to get in. I found that the cosplayers were very polite, let people through who needed to get in, let them use the sink and gave them space. We paid for our tickets, I think we had as much right to use the washroom without getting kicked out as much as any other person.

Second, the convention space was basically half of a hallway. Here’s a pic that a friend took.

They were cramming people in, I’m positive they went over the limit for fire safety D: They were charging $10 for wristbands and continued selling after they had sold out. The main guest that was supposed to show up – voice of Goku for the English version of Dragon Ball, suddenly had to drop out. The dealers room was super crammed to the point where people were getting stuck inside and couldn’t move.

Obviously being crammed in that small space was going to cause people to wander out from the designated spaces… But security was hassling people to move all the time. Two of the security guards that confronted us when we were being interviewed by Theo of were still polite…BUT THEN THERE WAS THIS LADY.

Basically we were leaving. Just waiting for Ringo to finish up her interview, so Sami starts vlogging. The security lady comes up and yells at us to leave, smacks Sami’s hand (that was holding the camera) down. My camera, wtf. I was so pissed off, luckily Sami didn’t drop the camera! Ugh seriously this convention was such a disappointment. Security was treating us like complete shit because we were cosplayers, even though we paid for the event and endured the shit conditions. I can understand that they needed to make sure people weren’t wandering into other events/ unauthorized parts of the convention hall…but there was absolutely no need to be rough with cosplayers/treat them with disrespect. A simple “Sorry, this area is closed off. Could you please go back to the Anime Convention area?” would have been fine.

In my opinion, these cons by Hobbystar are just cashgrabs, and pretty much all suck. I think you shouldn’t bother going to them if you’re in Toronto, it’s a waste. I wouldn’t bother going to their smaller events. (I’d only consider Fan Expo since that convention is pretty big and has some cool guests/events if you’re into comics/gaming.) Not going to bother going to any of the Toronto Anime Cons run by them anymore.

We ended up going to the North Building where there was no security and just lounged around. So technically we paid $10 each to stand in an overcrowded room with a shitty dealers room for about 3 hours, get harassed by security, and feel generally uncomfortable with the entire thing. We had much more fun in the north building, filming vlogs and doing our photoshoots. If not for friends, I would have had a terrible time.

Conventions in Canada are getting lamer and lamer… Instead of Fan Expo/ Anime North, I want to start going to American conventions like Youmacon, Otakon, Katsukon.…etc. I need a newer/fresher convention scene. Hopefully I’ll be able to start going to them more next year.

[REVIEW] Kimchi Yellow/Gold Circle Lenses

Today has been quite a good day! Σ(・ω・`|||)

Finished my first exam (multimedia). I originally thought it was 100 multiple choice questions but it turns out it was only 60 questions! We had 2 hours to finish the exam but I finished in 45 minutes… Stayed another 30 mins to check everything over (by this time, most of the people had left already lol)
Checked the academic website for my school where all out grades are, and turns out I got an A+ on the website I did for my final multimedia project! (⊙▽⊙) To top that off, a packaged arrived from a friend – he gave me his Beats earbuds that he didn’t use!  One thing to cross off my Christmas wishlist yay!

Also picked up some Christmassy props for DTAC this weekend “ヽ(´▽`)ノ” My maid K-On cos group, so excited!
(giant candy cane~)
Anyway, enough of that! Time for a lenses review!
Today, I’ll be reviewing Kimchi – Maki Yellow lenses! These lenses are from Uniqso.
I wanted to say that Uniqso’s customer service is amazing! They always respond quickly to my emails. The lenses arrived bubble wrapped in a small box. They even added a card, very sweet! The package was shipped in a padded envelope and took about 2.5 weeks to arrive from Malaysia to Canada. ー( ´ ▽ ` )ノ
Here is the stock photo from the website… I could take a proper picture because the lens case that came with the lenses was hot pink, so you couldn’t really see the colour that well in the case. (。・д・)ノ゙
Kimchi - Maki Yellow
I’ve always wanted to try out some crazy gold/yellow lenses!  These looked promising. What really drew me in was the starburst design in the middle – most lenses just have a circular opening for your pupil to look out through, but the Maki lenses have a star design!
They are 16.2mm, which ensure you’ll have big dolly eyes! (⊙ω⊙)/ I think this is the largest pair of lenses I own! I think that they’re actually prob more of a 15mm size though, but whatever. The enlargement is great! It’s from the brand ‘Kimchi‘ which I’ve never heard of before, but they have quite a big range of unique lens designs!
(Sorry for the blurry pictures – my camera committed suicide the other day so I had to use my old pink one.)
They don’t look as bright in natural light. The black limbal ring really makes your eyes pop! I actually felt really badass with these in + smoky eyes… The colour of the lenses is a medium pale yellow + a darker, more orange-brown yellow. They also feature latte-like designs, except they are dark brown and are very noticeable. (。・ω・)ノ゙
In direct light, the yellow/gold colour really is noticeable! So is the starburst design, which I think is really cool! ☆ミ(o*・ω・)ノ
With bright light + flash, the yellow is really noticeable. These would be perfect for a cosplay of a character who has yellow eyes! The black outer ring defines the eyes, but the designs on the lens still make it look …relatively… natural.
I think it works quite well with dark eye makeup or smoky eyes~
I actually really like these lenses! They’re so striking and unique! Definitely cosplay lens though, I’d never wear this out in public haha.
As for the lens size, it took a bit of getting used to to wearing a size that big. Just make sure you have eyedrops handy!
You can get these lenses from Uniqso! These lenses are currently on sale for $19.90USD~ Check them out!
Really excited for DTAC this sunday!
P.S. Somebody asked me before if I photoshop my eyes bigger… I never do haha, it’s all the ~magic~ of circle lenses!

PHOTO DIARY – November

I think I’ll make this a regular feature – monthly photo diaries! I’m going to warn you now that  they’ll be kind of boring since school is sapping the energy out of me like a spy sapping a dispenser [/lameTF2reference]

This month was probably the most stressful of them all.  My after-midterm projects and end of semester projects were due this month, as classes finish at the end of December! (; ̄Д ̄)

One of the most interesting lectures I’ve had so far haha! Guest lecturer came in and told us about cybersex and avatar sex culture in social MMOs like IMVU and Second Life. As for the picture on the right, apparently according to some statistic people who do cybersex generally get the same about of sex in real life? Food for thought. (」゜ロ゜)」

Went and partied with some friends! It was really fun since I hadn’t been out for a while.
WIRED SACHIE! ヾ(*д*)ノ゛

My university’s Japanese Connection club held a ‘Japanese Game Show’ event! It was really fun – basically there were different teams and they had to complete wacky challenges to see who got the most points! There was a V taped on the ground (might be hard to see) but you had to keep your feet outside of the wider parts of the V so you were almost doing the splits, and then try to blow ping pong balls off water bottles!

I didn’t participate in the game show because I ended up leaving half way through to finish my history essay  But it looked like lots of fun! ヘ(^o^ヘ)

This was from a while ago – took a pic in my Mio/BGS wig! I love this hairstyle so much, why can’t my real hair be this nice? ヽ(*´Д`*)ノ Used the iphone app moreBeaute2 (which I believe is free). It makes photos so much nicer! ヾ(*´∇`)ノ

As I said in the previous post, LIGHTS came and did a little concert at my university! I LOVE HERRRR /cannot stress this enough. After, Sonia and I went back to my res where we stayed up until 4 stalking Nightbox (the band that opened her set) and watching Sherlock Holmes.

Started watching Gunbuster 2 (Diebuster), on the left, and continued watching some Hidamari Sketch! (right)
Some plans are forming for a Diebuster cosplay group involving me, Jeanie, and Sami! Not sure when though…

Also caught up with Bara de Hadashi wo Fume. (Left). It’s so cute! I love Rinko Ueda’s art style! It’s a bit weak on plot, but the cuteness and art makes up for it for me! Also started B.O.D.Y., which is pretty cute. I needed a new shoujo manga to read while waiting for class to start hehe, since I read it on the iphone app ‘Manga Rock’.

I recommend both of these if you’re into shoujo manga, but expect a lot of cheesiness.  ー( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

Super boring entry right? Don’t worry, I’ll have lots of interesting things to blog about next month! Exams, DTAC, shopping, Christmas etc! (◕‿◕✿) “A poor student’s guide to Christmas shopping”, lol orz.

Apparently it’s snowing in Toronto? It hasn’t reached me here yet… Snow go away! (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
Time for me to go to bed! Good night~

K-On Cosplay Update~!

Hello everyone! ヽ(=^・ω・^=)丿Thank you so much for the 100 followers! I’d like to put together a little giveaway soon to celebrate this little achievement! This will also go in hand with almost getting 1000 likes on my facebook page! (Just about 220 left~)

 Cosplay progress!

After exams, I’ll be preparing for DTAC! (December Toronto Anime Convention). It’s a super small event that takes place on the 11th of December (Sunday) at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. It’s more of a hang out  type of thing than a convention… Last year my cosplay group, Moetron, cosplayed from K-On, Listen!! version!

Here’s a picture~ Probably one of my favourite cosplay pictures hehe~

From left to right: Jean, myself, LuanRingoSami
We’ve all kind of agreed to reserve DTAC for our group K-On cosplays! DTAC is also near Christmas so we usually try to add some Christmassy accessories to add some nice holiday spirit!
This year, we’ll be cosplaying Maid version of K-On! Moe moe kyuuun! (〜^∇^)〜

Super excited for this! I think their maid outfits are super cute and moe !! We’ll be doing the same characters as we normally cosplay, but mle will be joining us as Azunyan instead of Luan~ Since we’re all busy with school, most of us have ordered our cosplays online (since maid outfit’s aren’t very expensive.) Mle and I will have to make our own though because we both have really lanky proportions lol, so store bought dresses are too short on us… Her mother is a steamstress so we’ll be getting lots of help though! (Thank god lol!)

(ノ゚▽゚)ノ If anybody in the Toronto area is going to DTAC, let me know and come say hi! I actually get ridiculously excited when people recognize me!

I’m really looking forward to being able to work on a cosplay project again, I feel like my life is so bland because of school. I’ve learned how to power nap inbetween classes though, which has proved to be a very useful skill!

Oh, and one more thing!
I tend to get a lot of questions about cosplaying and how to do or make certain things! So I’m thinking about doing a series on my blog about cosplaying tips! I’m not the best at cosplaying but I’d like to help those who ask me questions by showing them my methods of doing them!

Some of the things I’m thinking of featuring are: circle lenses in cosplay, wig care, makeup, craft foam armor tutorial, making props, posing in photos, general convention survival tips, etc. What do you guys think? 😀

Akiyama Mio cosplay + Studio Photos

Here are some photos from the High Park cosplay event on the 15th of October.
The weather was cold and miserable so we ended up going to a friend’s office studio instead to get photos!

Joanna made the guitars… they’re amazing! She’s such a talented cosplayer!
“Elizabeth” (the name of Mio’s bass) is made from styrofoam board coated with Modge Podge, craft foam, various knobs and screws, wire, and paint!
This is also my favourite photo haha <3

Click ‘read more’ to see more of the photos~

Mio the light stand! I was actually thinking of the below picture of Allison Harvard when I was doing this picture… Obviously I dont look as intense as her haha but she gave me inspiration!

And now…

Floating Mio! I love taking jumping pictures, they always seem so…light? I love the sensation of looking like I’m flying!

Group picture with my Azunyan (Joanna) and my Yui (Kami!) They’re both so cute!

My long wig was irritating me so I took it off and changed into my normal clothes.
Got some normal shots as well!

Basically all I did when Justin taught me how to use his DSLR was stand in front of light stand things and take pictures! I didn’t know how to make the camera focus properly, that’s why in a lot of the pictures only my eyes were in focus lol.

The light box made my face look really orange though, took forever to correct the colours ;_;
I also updated my ‘ABOUT’ page with this photo! I’ve reformatted it as to fill out FAQ’s that I get along with basic facts.

Moe Moe Mike and I! Except I’m all blurry noooooo~ (°∀°)b

Finally, a picture of my nails that day. Dark brown base with different fimo fruits! Not really in focus though orz

I really want a DSLR, it was so fun to play with! Hopefully I’ll be able to save up enough for one during Christmas time. ( ´艸`)

Thanks to Thomas, Justin, and Mike for the photos! ( ̄▽+ ̄*)

You can see the rest of my photos and cosplay updates on my facebook page!

[REVIEW] DollyEye BarbieDoll Grey Circle Lenses + Rimmel Lash Flirt Mascara

Hello everyone!

I know I seem to be a bit slow on posts lately, please forgive me!  I know somebody asked me to write a post on university life here so I’ll try to have that up as soon as possible. For now, I’ll try to do some shorter update posts or review posts!

Today I’ll be reviewing two products – a pair of circle lenses and some mascara!

I got a pair of grey lenses from! Specifically, the ‘Dolly Eye BarbieDoll Grey lenses‘.
They sell for $17.90 USD which is pretty cheap for lenses! Uniqso sells different lens brands that aren’t as well know, but there are still some super awesome designs!

UNIQSO:Dolly Eye Barbiedoll Grey
The image on the website shows the lenses t have a tornado design! I think this is very striking, and has a very nice design. Take into consideration that the lenses are on a model with blue eyes, hence the blending looks better.

Here is what the lenses looked like in the case. The arrived in a small cute box and the vials were wrapped in bubble wrap!

The lenses themselves are 14mm and have a water content of  42%! These lenses did not dry out after 6 hours of wear! They feature a tornado/swirly design.

First picture is without circle lenses, and the second picture is with the lens in! As you can see, they enlarge quite a bit despite being only 14mm!

This is what the lenses look like on my eyes! The lenses don’t blend very well into my natural eye colour because they are brown, but I still think they look quite nice!

Had to throw out my old mascaras (Maybelline Colossal Volume and Lash Stiletto) since I’ve had them for a while. I decided to pick up a new one today! I remember Sami saying something about Glam Eyes mascara being good so I decided to check it out! I was looking for length opposed to volume since my eyelashes are a bit short! This mascara promises length and blacker pigments.
I didn’t put any mascara in the front part of my eyelashes to show my natural lash length. It actually worked really well to extend my lash length!
Mascara and circle lenses!
I definitely recommend both of these! The lenses are suitable for cosplay (I use the grey lenses for my Mio cosplay)! They’re more of a darker grey – if you want a lighter grey lens, you might want to go with GEO Nudy Grey or EOS Pure Grey!
Finally, I will leave you with a picture that was taken at yesterday’s cosplay event! I cosplayed Akiyama Mio, uniform version. The lovely Joanna (AKA the cute Utane Piko cosplayer from Fan Expo) made the guitars for us! So talented! She even gave me the bass because she’s going back to Indonesia soon (she’s an exchange student)! She’s such a super talented cosplayer, I wish one day I’ll be able to be at her level! I’ll be make sure to take lots of pictures with it when I do my future Mio cosplays! <3
I’ll upload more of the photoshoot pictures when I get them!

Sorry for the long wait! Here’s the con report for the Sunday of Fan Expo!
( I know that a lot of my images in other posts say bandwidth exceeded, stupid photobucket suspended my account because there was too much traffic for those photos? They’ll be up in a week or two hopefully…)

Packed up our stuff and checked out of our hotel on Sunday morning. I decided not to cosplay because my back hurt from pulling it on Saturday. (Damn Black Gold Saw heels! ;_;) We checked our luggage and headed back to the con centre. Sami cosplayed STRength, minus the hands (I think it was because the handles snapped or something?)
I cosplayed a bee~ Dollarama cosplay yay
STRength checkin’ out dem figmas and figures!
They had this really creepy exhibit up promoting Hulk? Oh god it looked so realistic, I felt as though it was going to open its eyes and scream or something! Still trying to overcome my fear of zombies and weird creepy things orz…

Princess Zelda cosplayer! She had very well crafted armour.
CRAZY SPOCK AGAIN, he looks so awesome!
Ringo and I decided to collapse on the group and chill for a bit.
Xmen cosplayers! Love those Xmen kigurumis.
Cute Tiger Ringo~
Ringo and I had to be Asian tourists and take pictures beside the giant robots! This was at an exhibit promoting the movie ‘Real Steel’ which is coming out. Hugh Jackman is going to be in it WHICH MEANS I NEED TO BE WATCH IT.
Ringo with some TF2 cosplayers! (I don’t even think that the guy on the left was cosplaying, LOL!) TF2 cosplayers this year were preeeetttty hot!
Ringo vlogging action!
Cute Miwako from Paradise Kiss!
Japanese artist Junko Mizuno at her table. I became a fan of her art after seeing it being showcased in Shoujo Beat magazine. I sat in on her panel on the Friday of Fan Expo and really enjoyed it! I wanted to buy her art book but then reconsidered because it would probably just sit around my house all day. I think she’s holding an exhibit in Toronto sometime soon, so I’d really like to check that out!
Nerd love <3
Going up to Subway for some food. SERIOUS FACE ESCALATOR RIDE.
Excellent photobombing skills!
Ringo’s super awesome cat bag! I bought a farty-alpaca and a rabbit bag from the same seller. So cute, I’ll take a pic for you guys later!

Oh look it’s Professor Layton! Kyle in his ~thinking~ pose.
Crowded dealers room~ But wait, what’s that in the background?
Of course, it’s the Meowth-balloon!
I think that’s it for the Sunday report. (I’m not really in a writing mood haha, but I feel like I’ve delayed this post for too long.) Fan Expo was a lot better this year than last year! I really enjoyed myself at this convention. Hopefully next year I will have become more interested in comics and stuff. I’ll probably attend some more panels!

Sorry for taking a while to update! This week I celebrated my 18th birthday (on August 30) and am currently finishing up my packing for university! Moving out on the 3rd, still have so much left to do.
I’ve also taken my Fan Expo (Friday con report) post down because photobucket said my image limit bandwith or something has been exceeded, so all the pictures went to a BANDWITH EXCEEDED sign. Hopefully all shall be sorted out once I set up my blog domain~ Anyway..

Last Saturday was…an adventure.

Ringo and I started the day off pretty early. We needed to finish packing up for the hotel and finish making Sami’s STRength tail. We would have done it the night before but we were out for dinner/drinks with some friends at Gabby’s (read about it in my FAN EXPO 2011 Friday post!)
Anyway, we finished cleaning, packing up, and making the tail. We finished putting on our makeup, and packed the BRS cannon and King Saw in the car. We ended up leaving for the hotel!
We reached the hotel and went to luggage check… But when I went to the counter they said that the there was no name reserved under the name that Sami booked under! We instantly went into panic mode because Sami was expecting to arrive at the con late and we would be stuck in the hotel lobby with suitcases and big props! Jean arrived at the hotel lobby and we panicked some more. In the end, we worked it all out, checked out luggage, and headed towards the convention centre.
Changed into our revamped BRS cosplays!
Derpy BRS and derpy DM are super moe!
Carmen as Black Matagi is also super super cute! Ahh so happy, surrounded by so many cute girls!
Dead Master photobombed me ): But at least her nails are pretty!
Sittin around on the floor. We had been taking lots of pictures before and were hot/sweaty so decided to take a break.
Storm trooper photoshoot near by!
This is when I stopped taking photos, so here are some photos I found of our cosplays from later on that day! I feel that these photos turned out much better than the ones at Anime North! When I look back at some of the AN photos, I cringe! I did my makeup so horribly (with red liner under the eyes, ew!) My wig wasn’t very pretty and my shoes were dying. I’m super glad that BGS turned out much better than at AN (and there was no underboob hooray!)

It’s a nice feeling – the feeling of maturing as a cosplayer! I don’t even want to remember my cosplays because they look horrible. I feel that my Meiko cosplay, BGS, and Mio cosplays are best to date, and I want to be remembered for those and nothing before that.
Trying to take a hit at Gak (Gakattack on youtube, check his videos out!). He does really cool videos in which he takes footage of cosplayers trying to attack him and then adds special effects so it looks like it’s real!
I was trying to swing really hard and make it look forceful haha 😀
Here’s the video he did at Anime North 2011.

OMG look it’s Moe Mike! We call him Moe Mike because he giggles all the time and is super moe.
(I realize that I use the word moe a lot and some of you might not understand that. It’s pronounced like ‘moe-eh’. Here’s the wikipedia page! I just describe moe as a super cuteness that makes your heart beat fast haha~)
Sad faces! I don’t look very sad though, just confused haha.

Josie was cosplaying Asuka from Neon Genesis Evangelion. She was originally going to do the plugsuit version but didn’t finish it so she just went casual. So cute!

Red Engineer from Team Fortress 2 appeared again! He stopped to pose in front of me while I was lying down, so you can see my gold shoes in the first picture.

Dragged our weapons back to the hotel with the help of Justin, Thomas, and Moe Mike! Then we headed out to to Korean BBQ! I had only been to KBBQ once before but that was a long time ago, so it was nice to go again with a group of close friends.

Korean BBQ is when there is a grill at your table, and you’re served raw meats/veggies. You put the meat and veggies on the grill yourself! The food tasted so good~!

Sami and Jean, expert korean grill masters~

Om nom nom nom nom!
Ringo and Jean went to Gabby’s again for drinks with Wasi & co, so Sami/Carmen/Thomas/Mike and I headed back to the hotel. I’m glad that Thomas/Mike walked us back to the hotel – Toronto at night is kinda of scary haha! So many people out partying/clubbing.
Sami crashed first while Carmen and I talked for a bit and had girly bonding time <3 Fell asleep shortly after. Jean and Ringo came back at…5AM haha!
That’s it for now, expect the Sunday con report soon. Uploaded the Friday convention vlogs if you’re interested!

Hello ladies and gents~

Back from another year of Fan Expo! This year’s con was definitely better than the last! Ringo and I went to the convention for the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday~

This post will be quite image heavy! There were so many pictures that I’m not going to bother watermarking them. P:

Ringo arrived at my house on the Thursday before the convention to sleepover. We retouched our Black Rock Shooter weapons and outfits and bought some food for Friday since the lines for food are usually super long! (・∀・)

Woke up at 7AM on the Friday of Fan Expo. Packed / did make-up / drove to the train station for the 9:10AM train. LITTLE DID WE KNOW THAT WAS AN EXPRESS TRAIN SO IT SKIPPED OUR STOP AHHHH SO ANGRY ヾ(。`Д´。)ノ Had to wait another half hour for the next train.

Arrived at Union Station where we walked to the convention centre to pick up our wristbands. Lines were short and moved really fast, so we were able to get into the convention really quickly! I got changed into Meiko (Synchronicity ver.) and Ringo got changed into a maid outfit. (`・ω・´)

She left shortly after as she was going to film AKB48’s RIVER dance cover with some videographers! Therefore I was left to lurk the convention alone. ヽ(;´Д`)ノ

Since I had nothing better to do and was feeling quite foreveralone, I went to camwhore. Sad Sachie is sad! =(*´Д`)=

Walked around the dealers room. I always found FX’s dealer’s room to be quite interesting as it’s a mix of comic merchandise, anime, horror, gaming, and more! I mainly stuck to the gaming/anime isles though.

Saw these Doctor Who cosplayers! I think they were pretty good (never watched DW though!)

Tom Felton (who plays Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter) was at the convention doing a meet/greet, autograph, photo op type thing at his booth. So many people were lined up! He was actually very good looking, more than I thought haha. ヾ( ´ー`)

Walked out of the dealers room and saw these Team Fortress 2 cosplayers! A red engineer and blu engineer battling it out! So so so epic! ( ´艸`) I just started playing TF2 this summer and it’s super fun, so I immediately jumped at these two cosplayers to take their photos! ( I think I creeped Red Engie out a bit though because I have like 5 more photos of him from the weekend. Also saw him walking down the street on Saturday night and was yelling to him across the street/making hearts at him XD!  i’m not creepy i swear! ヽ(;´ω`)ノ )

More pictures under the cut!

Crowded dealers room!

Stormtrooper with a boom-box, so fresh! Σ(~∀~||;)

More TF2 cosplays! Spy, scout, and engie. Great cosplays! (〃∇〃)

Feet were getting tired so I went to the washroom to camwhore! I love the way short hair looks on me, but it would never look this good if I cut my real hair like this. ;_;
Famous horror actress Elvira was being interviewed. Holy crap, those boobs! ( ゜∋゜)

Saw Red and Johnny at the con! They asked for a picture with me as well! So freaking cute, love them!

Child stormtrooper! Also stole my heart that weekend, ~possibly~ cuter than red engie. I am doing this to my children.

Lauren as Belle from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. She’s so pro at cosplaying! So beautiful as well! We were sitting together waiting for people to come get us haha. (Little did I know that Ringo would ditch me until 6PM ;_;)

Cute Mari cosplayer!

Epic Call of Duty cosplay haha. So creative / clever!

Met up with Emiry (who will be cosplaying more with us in the future, I think we’re doing a Chobits cosplay together soon!). (・ω・)b   Lurked around the dealers room with her. She’s so cute! She looks more asian than I do haha!

Of course we had to go camwhore in the washroom.

“Emiry Y U NO TAKE PICTURE WITH ME?” /(;°皿°)/

That’s better! 😀

I didn’t want to sit around by myself so I went to Junko Mizuno’s panel where she answered questions about her art and career! I first discovered her art in Shoujo Beat magazine when it was still running. I love her art style – it’s so creative and unique. Beautiful. I really enjoyed this panel! I think I’ll attend some more in the future.

Back in the dealers room – the most accurate Spock cosplayer I’ve ever seen! He looked so much like Spock it was unreal! He was also ridiculously tall! (°д°;)

Piko Utane cosplayer! She was super cute and her cosplay was great! I love her giant USB~

More camwhoring ;w; Took my armour off because it was hurting me (rubbing against my collarbone) and it was getting really hot.

Tried photobombing a picture of Superman. INSTEAD HE LOOKED AT ME AND THEN PICKED ME UP HNNNNNNG best photo ever as you can tell by my stupidly happy face. I was actually like OH GOD NO because my dress slid up and I felt like I was pantyflashing everybody. Thank god I wore those shorts!

AND THEN I FOUND MY HUSBANDO AND WE DID THE “I SOLVED THE PUZZLE POSE”. So happy that I found a Professor Layton cosplay at Fan Expo, that made my Friday complete!

Giant Hagrid made out of LEGO.

Ringo came back later and we changed out of our cosplays. Went with Jean and Thomas to Gabby’s where we met up with Wasi&co for food and drinks!

Jean and I both had sliders with sweet potato fries. I couldn’t finish the buffalo chicken one because it was too spicy (for me anyway, since I don’t do very well with spicy food). Therefore I gave it to Jean <3

Cute Jeanie~

First drink yay! It was called ‘Raspberry and  had some weird vodka and sourpuss shit in it, I have no idea. It tasted like weird grapefruit juice until you swallowed, then it had a sharp tasted and then a nice aftertaste.

That’s the end of DAY 1! Will be posting some videos and other con reports soon! (I’ll try to get them up ASAP, but I’m moving out next week for university and there’s lots left to do!)

P.S. Here’s the first tagged picture I found of my Meiko cosplay! Super happy with how it turned out! (Except I lost my red gloves ;_;) Watermark is just there because that’s what I’m planning to change my domain name to!

Random Gets + BRS/BGS Cosplay Progress

I really wish I could blog more often but my life isn’t very eventful! (。・ε・。)

I’ll be uploading another vlog soon to the moetronCOS youtube channel  which features our expedition to Home Depot, getting insulation foam! Please sub to us if you’re interested in our little adventures!  (°∀°)b

I’ll leave you with this ↑↑↑  picture of Ringo (who just got a blog, check it out!) and Sami! It was our first time buying/working with insulation foam for Sami’s giant STRength arms. Here’s a mini model I made! ↓↓

(We’re the biggest hardware store noobs ever…also probably the only females in the store haha! ヽ(゚◇゚ )ノ) The guy who was cutting our foam into smaller pieces started flirting with Sami! So funny haha, his pick-up line was “So, I’ve seen your dad around here quite a few times 😉 “. We all assumed he was one of her friends, but she told us later that she didn’t know who she was and her dad never really goes to that Home Depot! xD

My maid cosplay arrived in the mail.  :*:・( ̄∀ ̄)・:*:  I actually bought this as a test for when my cosplay group does K-On maid version… unfortunately the dress was a bit short and tight across the shoulders. I could’ve altered it but the material wasn’t the best either… ( ゜∋゜) Therefore I gave it to Ringo because she paid for my Fan Expo ticket as a birthday present! I’ll have to find another maid cosplay that will actually fit me!  Too lazy to make my own haha. (´_`。)

A few things I picked up when I went to Buffalo USA to do some shopping! ↓↓↓

Forever21 JAPAN tank! I love it, so comfy. Bought another one that had a cat on the front.

More pictures under the cut!

Super comfy moccasins from a store called Papaya.

Fabulous gold shoes from Macy’s! Only $13 hehehe!

3/4 sleeve jacket from F21…. I bought more clothes, just haven’t taken pictures of them yet. They’ll go up on my Poupee eventually… (ノω・、)

Makeup case! Bought it in Target for $17, found the same case in a Walmart here for only $14! ( p_q) Oh well.

I’ve actually added in a few more things after taking this picture, mostly brushes and stuff.

If anybody’s interested in a what’s in your makeup bag post, let me know! I’ll take pictures of the cosmetis I have so far.

Bought this straightener in Buffalo because it was cheap haha… Was too distracted by the cute product design and didn’t notice it only had one heat setting (high), sob. Need to get that heat protecting spray now! (´□`。)

Cute Betsey Johnson ring I ordered online! Also came with a necklace and a pair of earrings! (All octopus designs haha… Might just give some away in a giveaway?) (〃∇〃)

Now for some cosplay progress pics!  ヾ(@^▽^@)ノ

Ringo slept over for two nights when we went to work on Sami’s STRength arms! She brought her cannon over so we could give it a makeover in time for Fan Expo. The spray paint had rubbed off since Anime North so we decided to cover it in Gesso so the stray paint would stay on. We should’ve used black gesso but whatever. ヘ(゚∀゚*)ノ

My garage – waiting for the gesso on cannon-chan to dry.

First coat of spray paint. Using black semi-gloss spray paint so the cannon would look shiny!

Handle and barrel painted, waiting for it to dry. Also, the orange isn’t paint! It’s just the reflection of the garage light on the wet paint! (;^ω^A

And it’s done! Yay! You can also see my new 2.0 Black Gold Saw boots in the background, drying from the paint job.

Also making improved BGS horns! Much lighter than the last ones. Since this picture was taken, they’ve been gesso’d and painted, just need to attach to a hairband now.

Annnnnd almost done making Meiko dress, Synchronicity version.

…might have made the slit on the side a little too high. (;^ω^A

Anyway, it should be done soon, and I’ll upload a full body pic when it’s done. I won’t have the sword for Fan Expo, maybe for next Anime North. I’m thinking about selling this as well because I don’t have a group / plans to rewear it haha…. (ノ゚ο゚)ノ It was only really a summer project.

Got another circle lenses review planned for soon. Super natural blue lenses, look forward to it! ♥

Pretty Makeup ♥ and Meiko Progress~

Hello everybody! ヾ(@°▽°@)ノ

(in case you’re wondering, no I did not cut my hair! This is progress for my Meiko wig, which you’ll see at the end of the post. (°∀°)b )

So guess what arrived in the mail the other day? My stuff from! Super excited to receive these products because they looked really good on the website!

I’ll be reviewing two of the things I received today!

{ { Before I start, is an online cosmetics shop based in BC, Canada. Shipping took about a week and a half because of the postal strike to arrive in Toronto, and the items were sent through expedited mail with a tracking number. Items arrived in a bubblewrap padded envelope! } }

First thing I will be reviewing is this base powder~ Lioele Sun Elastic Powder Pact #21 – Nude Beige.

Product description:

I really like my base makeup haha! I think a good base helps to make the skin look beautiful and pure~ ヘ(゚∀゚*)ノ  So this pact immediately appealed to me. (This powder and my Kiss Me Heroine powder, which I will review later, are my favourite things ever ♥)
Beautiful pink packaging!
Isn’t this cute? The packaging for this definitely reminds me of a princessy theme! ♥ ~ (´0ノ`*) Despite being a little chunky compared to other powder cases, it makes up for being super super cute!
The inside of the pact. It has a mirror, as well as a super soft puff pad thing. Like, it’s supersupersuper soft, almost as soft as my Kiss Me Heroine powder pad!
Lift up the pad and you’ll see that there is a pad separator! I love this feature, keeps the powder set and makes sure the powder doesn’t go loose everywhere! (*^ー^)ノ
The powder has great coverage! I was able to just use this powder and it covered up redness on my face due to the heat. It also has a medium strength floral scent which lasts for a few minutes and then fades away. I found it to be quite pleasant because I’d suddenly catch whiffs of a nice floral scent suddenly!  (・∀・)/
It also gives you a matte finish, works great if your face gets a little oily/sweaty so you can just use a bit and the shine is gone! It also brightens your complexion.
You can find the product HERE.  All the reviews done so far are really high, I’d give this 5/5!  (☆。☆)
Here I’m wearing the powder, my GEO Cafe Latte circle lenses (my new favourites!) and the copper eye shadow which I will be reviewing next! ヘ(゚∀゚*)ノ

More pictures + review under the cut!

Next product, the Lioele Dollish Triple Eyeshadow #8 – Bronze Brown

I was looking for a new type of brown shade eyeshadow because the current NewYorkColour one I was using was crap. \(*`∧´)/ The colours of this trio are really great!
Eye shadow came in this little metallic pink case, also very princessy like the powder pact!
There is a mirror and a clear eye shadow brush holder thing. Love this feature, as it keeps the two parts separate!
The colours included are a white creamy colour, a copper-bronze, and a dark brown. The colours compliment each other very well! Also highly pigmented, colour comes across being vibrant!
Swatch on my wrist.
How it looks on my eye! I don’t wear much mascara in the summer, that’s why my lashes look short haha. (^▽^;)
Sorry for the derpy facial expression, here’s how it looks on my eyes!
I didn’t use much of the dark brown, mainly the cream and the copper.
Covered my lid with copper, then cream from the inner corner to the middle.
I think the brown eyeshadow goes well with the brown lenses! Definitely going to wear this makeup for my Meiko cosplay~!
I definitely recommend it – with eye primer these colours would look even better!
I give this a 5/5!
I’ll be reviewing the BB cream that I got later on, so please look forward to that!
Finally, some pictures of my Meiko cosplay progress.
It’s not much progress really, I just cut my wig! It was fairly long last time, so I cut it shorter to match Meiko’s hairstyle. ( ゚ ▽ ゚ 😉
I don’t have many photos at the moment, so I’ll just leave you with this one! For some reason, my camera has randomly been taking green/yellow pictures! (iДi)I think it’s broken, gotta buy a new one soon.

Meiko Cosplay Progress

Hi everybody!

Today hasn’t really been the best of days- it’s been hot and I’ve taken down a load of my previous blogposts because somebody feels the urge to start attacking me on cgl… Not such a great feeling. (#`ε´#) Anyway, I’ll be quickly updating you guys on my cosplay progress on Meiko, Synchronicity version. (Since this is a cosplay blog as well haha!)

Before I start, I mainly used this tutorial as a reference! I changed some of the parts, but it’s a really good guide for people who want to make armour for their cosplays and can’t afford/don’t have access/don’t want to use materials like Wonderflex, Sintra…etc.

Finished my leg armour for Meiko! Hopefully it lasts for the convention haha, still weary about craft foam armor. I’ll re-enforce the backs with more fabric later! ヽ(゜▽、゜)ノ

Earlier progress pics of chest plate!

My sheets of craft foam weren’t big enough to make the full plate as one big piece, so I had to split it up into two different parts – the bust and the waist. This is the pattern for the bust part, drawn on poster board. Cuts are made in the bottom corners to see where they’ll make the top curve to make the boob shape.

This is the pattern after it was transferred onto the craft foam and the cuts were glued. The lines that the cuts made were covered up with gesso afterwards so its not really noticeable!

Bust plate after the bottom waist part was glued on!

The inside was re-enforced with scrap pieces of foam because I’m lazy and quickly needed the chest plate to keep its shape! Strips of fabric were later glued on the inside to make sure the armour shape set!

My chest plate!  (`・ω・´) In this picture, I’ve drawn on Meiko’s chest plate designs. After that, I cut out 1cm and 50cm strips of craft foam and hot glued them along the designs!

In this picture, I’ve covered it in a few layers of Gesso!  This made the surface smoother and sealed the foam?  (I think that’s the term.) I did a few more coats after this one so it became smoother. ≧(´▽`)≦ Gesso filled in and smoothed out the cracks between the foam.

First layer of silver paint! It looks quite streaky now, but it’ll be fine after a few more coats of paint. I actually thought it would look better if I spray painted it, but I ended up using the same silver paint from the rest of my armour because it would match. Except the paint I bought tends to stick if it touches more of the same paint. orz (iДi)

The funny thing about this armour is that the boob part is bigger than my actual boobs, so I’m going to put a pouch for my phone in there haha! :*:・( ̄∀ ̄)・:*: So handy, I won’t have to carry a purse around. I’m actually planning to buy a pass for the Friday of Fan Expo so I can actually look around and get all my stuff from the dealers room!

I’ll be with my BRS group on the Saturday. ヽ(*・ω・)人(・ω・*)ノ If it’s like last year where you had to show your pass to get into the actual building, then I might just end up buying a weekend pass… It’s expensive but I guess it’ll be my little birthday present to myself! (・∀・)/ Haha. Hopefully it’ll be like FX09 where you were able to lobbycon and only had to show your pass if you wanted to go into special events/dealers room.

My wig arrived in the mail! It’s unstyled and reminds me so much of Yui from K-On’s hair, so I decided to camwhore. (θωθ)/~ I wish I was cute enough/shorter so I could actually cosplay her! But Jean still has the best Yui imo!  Nudy purple lenses really do pass off as having light/ash brown eyes in photos, eh?  I’ve also finished the elbow armor thing, but it’s not that special so I’ll show you at the end when all my armour is done.

Anyway, that’s it for now I think. I’ve got lots of reviews lined up inbetween other cosplay progress shots and random posts. Couldn’t upload a video last week because of some issues, but that means I’ll do two videos, or one long video, this week! (`・ω・´)ゞ

Ottawa (Day 5) + Cosplay Progress!

Hey guys! Sorry for not updating in a while. It’s been really hot here and I’ve lost all motivation haha! orz

Anyway, I’ll be continuing my report on my Ottawa trip! This post will be about Canada Day (July 1)

The main reason of why we drove up to Montreal/Quebec was to catch a glimpse of the royals!  The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (Prince William and Princess Kate) made their first official trip as a newlywed couple to Canada! Which was super exciting since my family is a fan of the royals! Naturally, we had to go see them!

Woke up at 8AM, left for Parliament Hill at 9AM. There were already so many people! They had fenced off this one area which my mom and I jumped over LOL, NO FENCE IS GOING TO KEEP ME AWAY FROM ROYALS.   Dad said he’d stay behind because he couldn’t jump the fence/too old or something. So my mom and I went ahead. She was bitching about how I took too long to get ready and how we didn’t have a good seat BLAH BLAH BLAH.

So many people!

View inbetween the butts of people standing up against the fence…

Then I came up with the amazing idea to climb up on one of the posts near the fence! If you can see the girl in the white/red shirt on the right side of the picture, behind the girl in the blue – she was also sitting on a post. I was sitting on the one to the left of her

My mom and her asian sun-umbrella LOL

Black cars arriving before the royals!

Also that day happened to be SUPER SUNNY. Coincidently, my mom decided to throw out our sunscreen because she said it had expired wtf.

I didn’t get any photos because I was taking video, but basically Will + Kate rode up in a white carriage! They came in on the road right in front of me AHH I had such a good view and was so excited to actually be able to see them in person! It was super exciting! All you can hear in the video is be going “OH GOD OH GOD ITS WILL AND KATE AHH THIS IS SO EXCITING”.   I’ll post it when I upload it haha!

After that my mom and I went back to the hotel. My dad also got photos because he went in the information centre across from Parliament hill that was airconditioned and had big glass windows… So jealous that he didn’t have to wait out in the sun and burn like I did! But he didn’t get to see them up close ohoho~

Went back after dinner for the fireworks show.

The fireworks show was beautiful!  Only lasted 15 minutes.

And that ends my report on Ottawa/Montreal! Hope you enjoyed it!

Also, I have some progress pictures for my Meiko cosplay! On the Friday of Fan Expo this year, I’ll be cosplaying Meiko (Vocaloid) from the song “Synchronicity”! I decided to do an armored cosplay after seeing the Lightning from Acksonl’s Anime Expo video! The armor looks so cool omg.  I was planning to cosplay Erza from Fairy Tail but it looked kind of hard, so I figured I’d start with something easier.

It’ll be my first time making armor so I hope it’ll turn out alright.

Here’s what Synchronicity Meiko looks like –

I think I did a pretty good job on the upper thigh armor so far, I’m just really scared of making the chest plate because I don’t want to mess up! It’s all made of craft foam using this tutorial.

I’m scared for the chest plate orz haha…. WISH ME LUCK! I’ll post progress pics here later!
